Judgment Day is Today According to Harold Camping, Do You Fear or Not?

Posted by JED on , under | comments (3)

U.S. evangelical broadcaster Harold Camping has predicted that today is judgment day. Actually, this is his second prediction already as his first one, in 1994, obviously failed.

The 89-year-old self-confessed prophet said he is sure an earthquake will shake the Earth on tomorrow sweeping true believers to heaven in what the Bible teaches as "rapture" just like in the New York Times best-selling novel "Left Behind" by Tim La Haye and Jerry Jenkins (have you read the book?).

"We know without any shadow of a doubt it is going to happen," Camping said in full conviction.

His supporters have posted thousands of billboards, streamers and posters across the United States and would you believe some of these promotional materials have reached the Philippines (Have you seen one? I did).

Camping's basis for the Doomsday prediction is current events like the more-frequent-than-ever earthquakes around the world and rumors of war which are indeed stated in the Holy Bible. But The Book also said that the apocalypse, judgment day and rapture will come like a thief in the night so it's very clear that no one will ever know nor predict when it is going to happen.

Richard Gutierrez on His Alleged Behavior Against MMDA Traffic Enforcers: "I was calm. I wasn't rude!"

Posted by JED on Friday, May 20, 2011 , under | comments (0)

Richard Gutierrez finally talks and airs his side on MMDA's allegations about his behavior when his driver was caught violating the speed limit along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City last Tuesday.

Richard clarified the rumors that he was arrogant and rude to the extent of cursing the MMDA traffic enforcers who caught his driver Loreto Figueroa while driving the actor's brand new Audi SUV along that "killer highway".

"Kita naman sa video na kalmado ako, na hindi naman ako galit," he said, adding "Hindi naman ako nagwawala at hindi ako nagmumura."

However, the actor didn't deny that the conversations between MMDA official Angelito Diendo and Ronnie Rivera of the MMDA No-Contact Policy made him so mad.

Richard said he heard one officer say over the radio: "Sir, si Richard Gutierrez po itong nahuli namin." While the guy on the other line said: "Ayan, tiketan mo 'yan para matauhan at matawagan ang mga reporters mamaya."

Ronnie Rivera, however, denied that he wanted to call in the media. He clarified that members of the media were present in Commonwealth Avenue to cover MMDA operations and none of them saw the actor.

When asked, Richard's driver, who was going at 79kph speed during the time of the incident, admits that he did not know about the 60kph-maximum speed limit rule imposed by the MMDA starting January of this year.

"Kasi kung alam ko hindi ko naman gagawin iyon," he said.

And for the media who initially reported about his ill-tempered manner, Richard had this to say:

"Before they put that as a headline, siguro kunin muna nila side ko. This is not the first time that happened to me. It happens to me every time. Wala pa ang side ko, nasa headlines na agad."

Zaijian Jaranilla Chronicles the Life of Blessed John Paul II in the Eyes of Filipinos in ‘Banal’

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Miracle boy Santino was able to touch the lives of Filipinos with his inspiring story in the hit primetime series "May Bukas Pa." Just like him, Blessed John Paul II touched the lives of many - not just of Filipinos but the rest of the world.

Child actor Zaijian Jaranilla

reprises his role in the phenomenal santaserye, alongside veteran actor Jaime Fabregas who played Father Anthony, this Sunday (May 22) in ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs' "Banal," a special documentary that chronicles the most inspiring and poignant moments in the life of the well-loved Pope who is widely regarded as one of the most important world leaders of the 20th century.

"Kids will learn a lot from 'Banal.' They will learn how to be obedient, to pray all the time, and just become good boys and girls," Zaijian said in an interview with "Umagang Kay Ganda."

"When he was still alive, he's like a celebrity but he is better than a celebrity," he shared. "My grandmother told me a lot of people want to see him."

Relive the excitement of his visit through the inspiring images and stories from the lucky few who had direct access to the Holy Father and listen to faith testimonials of Filipino devotees who claim to have received healing through his intercession.

Look back at how Blessed John Paul II touched the lives of many Filipinos, who are undeniably close to his heart. He visited the country twice as Pope and little did many people know, that he also visited the Philippines once when he was still a cardinal. He also named one of the oldest churches in Rome, Santa Pudenziana, as a national church of the Philippines that serves OFW's in Italy.

That is why, Blessed John Paul II is just so well loved by Filipinos all over the world and it was further affirmed when about five million Filipinos flocked to Luneta during the final night of the 1995 World Youth Day. This remains to be the biggest crowd ever assembled for a papal event anywhere in the world.

Who is the Blessed John Paul II to Filipinos? Why did he create such impact in out lives?

ABS-CBN brought the most comprehensive coverage of Blessed John Paul II's beatification last May 1. Its coverage aired through "TV Patrol Weekend" proved to be the most watched coverage as it hit a national TV rating of 19.1% on the said day as compared to "24 Oras," which aired earlier that day and only managed a measly national TV rating of 9%. The network also sent its top anchor Korina Sanchez to Vatican City to bring you live updates on this momentous Catholic event alongside ABS-CBN Europe Bureau Chief Danny Buenafe and correspondent Rose Eclarinal.

GMA Network Posts 18% Growth in Regular Advertising and Subscription Accounts in 1Q 2011

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

GMA Network, Incorporated (GMA) started 2011 on the upward trend with an 18 percent growth in consolidated gross revenues from regular advertising and subscription accounts in the first three months to P3.138 billion from P2.652 billion delivered same period last year, after stripping off P973 million worth of political ads.

Airtime revenues delivered by platforms television and radio from regular advertisers grew by 21 percent to P2.865 billion from P2.367 billion. Flagship business unit Channel 7, which is now the acknowledged national ratings leader from January to date, and GMA Radio hiked regular advertising revenues by 25 percent and 19 percent, respectively.

GMA International made subscription and advertising revenues worth P230 million this first quarter. The amount is higher by three percent in dollar terms, but down by two percent due to the appreciation of the peso.

Continuing to build on its global brand, international channels GMA Pinoy TV (GPTV) and GMA Life TV (GLTV) hiked subscriptions by 10 percent and two percent, respectively, this first quarter. GMA International likewise readies for the launch of GMA News TV (GNTV) international edition in July.

On the other hand, GMA's syndication sales and acquisition arm, GMA Worldwide, Incorporated (GWI), sold P6.6 million worth of programs with new markets in Kenya, Tanzania, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Brunei.

Meanwhile, newly launched GNTV made P12 million from its launch in February 28 till end March. GNTV is the first and only free-to-air news and public affairs channel on VHF (Very High Frequency). Because it is on free TV, viewers do not need to pay a cable service provider to get the latest news and information.

Net income for the quarter reached P534 million, a dip from P855 million recorded during the same period last year, which was mainly driven by political advocacies and advertisements in the top line.

GMA continues to thrive amid a non-election year with a modest increase in its total operating expenses (OPEX) by three percent to P1.989 billion. General and administrative expenses increased by 14 percent or by P114 million from P800 million to P914 million due to the Company's promotional activities in the regions to further establish its nationwide presence. The amount invested on ads and promotions almost doubled to P113 million during the first three months.

The quarter finished with earnings before income, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) worth P926 million, 34 percent behind last year's P1.413 billion.

GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon remains confident that GMA will deliver better financial performance in the succeeding months with GMA continuously emerging a ratings winner despite stiffer competition.

"GMA maintains its lead in audience share from January 2011 to date. With majority of the country's population now attuned to GMA, I look forward to a more solid liaison with our partners, the advertisers and viewing public alike," said Gozon.

On television, GMA has gone beyond ABS-CBN in national television ratings since the opening of 2011 and has managed to uphold its leadership position until today. This is according to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement - the broadcast industry's most trusted ratings service provider.

Based on household data surveyed in National Urban Philippines this April, GMA garnered 33.2 household audience share points, higher than ABS-CBN's 31.3 and TV5's 14.7.

In Urban Luzon, which comprises 77 percent of total television households nationwide, GMA's lead over competing networks remained at double digit levels. The Kapuso Network sustained its strong ratings performance in the said area with 36.8 share points, 10.4 points ahead of ABS-CBN's 26.4; and 20.6 points ahead of TV5's 16.2.

In viewer-rich Mega Manila, which covers 58 percent of total television households nationwide, GMA garnered 37.6 share points, 12.8 points up from ABS-CBN's 24.8; and 20.5 points higher than TV5's 17.1.

Furthermore, nationwide ratings data from January 1 to April 30 show that GMA delivered superior performance in audience shares with 33.6 points, up from ABS-CBN's 31.7 points and from TV5's 15.1 points.

For the same period in Urban Luzon, GMA registered an imposing 37.1 share points, higher than ABS-CBN's 26.7 by 10.4 and TV5's 16.9 share points by 20.2 points.

Year to date figures for Mega Manila show that GMA-7 posted 38.2 audience share points versus ABS-CBN's 25.1 and TV5's 17.7 for a lead of 13.1 and 20.5 points respectively.

Meanwhile, GNTV made a historic high ratings record during its coverage of the Royal Wedding last April 29. Throughout the wedding ceremony with live footage straight from Westminster Abbey from 5:00 to 8:00pm, GNTV hit 13.3 household rating - next to Channel 7's 18.6 rating for the same coverage. GNTV and Channel 7 delivered the highest ratings during the day.

After Manny Pacquiao, Now It's The Battle Between Miriam Defensor-Santiago and Dionisia Pacquiao

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Dionisia Pacquiao, the mother of Manny Pacquiao came out fighting on Wednesday as critics, including Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, hit the Sarangani Representative over his opposition to the Reproductive Health bill.

Mommy D's comments came after the lady Senator made several statements on Tuesday about Rep. Pacquiao's opposition to the RH bill.

Senator Santiago said on Tuesday that Rep. Pacquiao made a mistake in interpreting the Bible.

Santiago's statements drew the ire of Pacquiao's mother, the flamboyant Dionisia.

"Huwag ang anak ko ang pakialaman niyo. [Ang pakialaman niyo] yung malaswa, yung malaswa!" she said.

Mommy Dionisia said her son has a right to express his opposition to the bill.

"Ano tingin nila kay Manny, tau-tauhan? Di ba congressman sya?" she said.

She further said her son is just following the commandments of the Lord.

"Para kay Senator Miriam, parang binasura niya ang anak ko… bakit mababa ang tingin niya sa anak ko? Si Manny, sinusunod lang ang utos ng Diyos," she said.

Mommy Dionisia also denied daughter-in-law Jinkee is still using birth control pills.

"Noon pa gumagamit si Jinkee, noong bago palang sila mag-asawa. Pero ngayon, wala na," she said.

The Pacman's mom also proudly related how she practiced natural family planning as approved by the Catholic church.

"Ang mister ko, di sya ma kontrol eh… tinuruan sya ng calendar [method]. Ang calendar walang kasalanan 'yan," she said.

Despite her words, Dionisia denied she is angry at Senator Santiago, saying she is simply defending her son.

Meanwhile, after several painful statements, and even challenging Rep. Pacquiao to a fist fight over his stand on the RH bill, the Lady Senator appeared to back off after hearing what Mommy D had to say in her son's defense.

"I'm speechless. That's my only comment. That's a silly topic… maghanap na lang tayo ng ibang kalaban," she said.

Senator Santiago said the real fight is in the Senate, which will soon begin its own debate on its version of the RG bill.

The lady Senator, however, does not support a citizen's petition asking the Senate to conduct an investigation into the side effects and supposed abortifacient qualities of the contraceptives pushed by the bill.

"They should rely on the rationality of their arguments rather than their cheap trick… that is already pushing the envelope too far," she said.

But Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and Majority Leader Tito Sotto, who are both against the RH bill, believe the Senate must act on the petition and conduct an investigation.

"People can come to us and ask us to conduct and investigation. We look at it, if it is germane, proper, then we will act," Enrile said.

Enrile and Sotto are also pushing for a bill that will criminalize abortion, including the use of contraceptives.

The bill will provide punishments for those caught selling contraceptives without the buyer presenting a prescription from a doctor.

The Senate Committee Report on the RH bill is expected to be released in the next two weeks.

President Noynoy Aquino, meanwhile, reiterated his call to lawmakers to pass the Reproductive Health bill.

The President made the appeal during the 104th National Convention of the Philippine Medical Association in Davao City.

Miriam Defensor-Santiago - Manny Pacquiao Fight Over Bible Verse

Posted by JED on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 , under | comments (7)

Pond-for-pound boxing champ and Sarangani Representative Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao is about to face his biggest opponent ever - Senator Miriam Santiago.

Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago on Tuesday clashed with Filipino boxing champion Rep. Manny Pacquiao over the verse in the Bible, "Go forth and multiply."

Defensor-Santiago, a supporter of the Reproductive Health (RH) bill, gave an impromptu Bible study session before journalists at the Senate as she corrected Pacquiao’s quote “Go out to the world and multiply.”

The Bible does not say, ‘Go out to the world.’ It sounds very much like God is encouraging us to go out and copulate in public. God said in the Bible, ‘Go forth and multiply,’” she said.

Defensor-Santiago did not stop her lesson there. “If this is going to be a debate of Biblical quotes, then I will counter with: ‘The devil can cite scripture for its purposes,’” said the Senator.

She said Pacquiao was being a fundamentalist, as he interprets Scripture literally.

The Bible was not written by God. It was written at least 17 years after the death of Jesus Christ... They are quoting God, but the Bible says that none of them has ever seen God,” Defensor-Santiago continued. “In fact, if you claim to have seen God, you are in urgent need of psychiatric care.”

It is very dangerous to quote the Bible and apply it literally as Pacquiao is doing.”

The Senator does not think Pacquiao’s popularity will affect the opinions of Filipinos who are in favor of the RH Bill. “It will be very misleading to use his celebrity status to enter into a great debate on the political economy.

Defensor-Santiago said that the RH bill was a matter of providing information, especially for women of child-bearing age. She said that the RH Bill will teach women about natural family planning as promoted by the Catholic Church, the use of condoms and other contraceptives, among other things.

If you are going to be asked to answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’, you must cast a conscience vote, and not what somebody dictates to you on what should be your vote,” Defensor-Santiago said.

She also thanked the Catholic Church for not exploiting Pacquiao’s stand on the controversial RH bill.

One priest has already said that they are not going to use him as the poster boy,” said Defensor-Santiago. “I commend the Catholic Church because otherwise, it would have muddied the waters.

"If she wants 3 years, then it’s 3 years. I have to wait. I've prayed every night, you know, that she's the one that I spend the rest of my life [with]. I think we've invested 4 years of our life together through the tough times, the good times. And we’re still here together, happy as ever. So, definitely I prayed that 3 years later, it’s us. And if she says 3 years, then I'll wait 3 years. Siya ang boss," Paul told The Buzz last Sunday where Toni is also one of the main hosts.

"Just tell me what time, where, I'll show up. I mean, for me, the wedding talaga is about her. It’s about, you know, it’s about the lady, 'di ba? It’s about Toni, what she wants and what she wants to do. Of course me, I'll just be there," he added.

Meanwhile, Toni said that she is not yet ready to tie the knot because she is still enjoying everything that’s been happening to her career right now. Though, she said she is happy that Paul respects her wishes.

"Kapag naging asawa na niya ako, if ever in the future, I will make sure that I will put his happiness first. Kasi in my entire relationship with him, laging my happiness, my happiness, my happiness. So sabi ko sa kanya, ‘If God will permit na we will end up together, I promise that I will put your happiness first,'" she said.

Video: Dionisia Pacquiao Celebrates Disney Princess-Inspired 62nd Birthday

Posted by JED on , under | comments (2)

Dionisia Pacquiao or Mommy D, mother of boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, may have turned 62 last Sunday, but at her party that night, she looked so much younger in her blue Disney Princess-inspired dress.

She wore the dress during the Mass for the blessing of the new gym Pacquiao built in General Santos City.

It was the first of four wardrobe changes for Mommy D.

For a hot tango dance number, she donned a brown gown a la "Rosalinda", then changed into a bright red gown to sing Imelda Papin's 70s hit "Kung Liligaya Ka sa Piling ng Iba".

And to dance the night away until 1 a.m., Mommy D changed into a sleeveless aquamarine gown.

The well-loved Mommy D also received a lot of gifts from guests who trooped to her grand birthday bash.

Pacquiao and Jinkee gave her a P1-million Hermes Birkin bag, as she requested, while former President Joseph Estrada and wife Senator Loi Estrada gave her an orange silk scarf, also by Hermès.

"Salamat, salamat, President Erap, sa regalo," Mommy D said.

The Pacmom also showed ABS-CBN News other prized gifts: a red and green rosary made of Swarovski crystals, necklace, sandals, clothes, blue gown, white gold tongs, and more dancing shoes, which she said won't fit anymore in her shoe cabinet.

The Hermès box containing the prized Birkin, however, remained unopened as Mommy D intends to bring it to church on Sunday first.

Mommy D admitted she may have much material gifts, but she'll be happiest if her son would retire from boxing soon.

Heartwarming ‘Balikbayan’ Movie ‘Third World Happy’ Starring Sam Milby To Hit Selected SM Theaters Nationwide

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Matinee idol Sam Milby’s first Cinema One Originals movie Third World Happy will be seen in selected SM Theaters nationwide, beginning May 25 to 31.

The story unfurls the simple life of a “balikbayan” named Wesley (played by Milby) who has left the Philippines and his girlfriend in order to pursue his dream of becoming a painter. Everything changes when he returned to attend a funeral and reunites with his friends. They help him shine some light on his struggles: to look at his loved one in the coffin, to finally say his last goodbye, to get on with his life and start chasing his dream again.

Jodi Sta. Maria’s role as Aylyn, Wesley’s former girlfriend, manifests strength of women in facing heartbreak and family challenges, all at the same time. Here, Aylyn is a single mom, working hard as a teacher for her 13-year-old on son. As she meets Wesley again, after 13 years, she’ll finally receive the explanation she has always been wanting—why she was left behind by her beloved guy.

Kuya Danny (Richard Quan), on the other hand, has always been the supportive big brother of Wes, who never ventured on anything only for himself, but always for his family. Kuya Danny teaches Wes life’s most important lesson.

Third World Happy is directed and written by EJ Salcedo, who currently produces, writes and directs short films, TV commercials, corporate and music videos. He also directs for television.

Milby’s notable performance in the said film gained him a Best Actor nomination in the prestigious 34th Gawad Urian Awards of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino. Sta. Maria earlier garnered a Best Supporting Actress trophy in the Cinema One Originals 2010 awards.

This is a semi-autobiographical story. I combined homecoming and the stories of artists not being able to pursue their dreams to build the story of Third World Happy,” said Salcedo.

What will moviegoers learn from movie Third World Happy? Salcedo said, “I wanted to tell this story to remind people that if they are given the chance to pursue their dreams, they should never waste it. Most people never get that chance.”

In a review published in South Korea’s Jeonju International Film Festival website, Kim Se-jin said “The film carefully unfolds Wesley’s painful past one by one while he keeps meeting his close friends living a life different with the dreams which they had in their youth and his ex-lover which broke up with him when he left for the US. She is living her tough life with a 13-year-old son and her mother now. Finally, he confronts the weight of the heavy time lying between the one who left and the one who was left during the funeral. The film consoles the audience and Wesley by showing the sincere strength of the everyday life and the process of his reconciliation with his painful past.

Ria Limjap of, on the other hand, said though she’s not a fan of the acoustic heartthrob, she was still moved by Milby’s performance in Third World Happy. “Sam Milby does a good job portraying a lost balikbayan, floating in a stew of jetlag, emotional baggage, and Manila traffic. Dazed and depressed, drinking endless cups of instant coffee in disposable cups, Sam’s Wesley has to face his painful past: the girl he left behind, the tragic death of his parents, and now another beloved family member gone,” Limjap said.

Sam Milby’s portrayal as Wesley also got high praises from film critiques of “Milby doesn't bare his abs but gets to effectively bare the angst of his character.”

Catch Third World Happy in 10 selected SM Theaters nationwide—SM North Edsa, SM Megamall, SM Manila, SM Fairview, SM. Sta. Mesa, SM Southmall, SM Marikina, SM Cebu and SM Iloilo from May 25 to 31. Don’t miss the fun and excitement of Sam Milby’s Fans Day on May 25, 3p.m. at SM North Edsa.

There are also guest performances by Star Power grand winner Angeline Quinto and Star Power finalists Monica Sacay, Krissel Valdez, Akiko Solon and K-La Rivera.

Be inspired as Sharon prepares dishes live, using assorted products from her collection. There’s also a gift wrapping demo by the Megastar, in partnership with “Sharon at Home” magazine.

Be a Megastar to your own family and friends! Don’t miss this great chance to be more motivated and to develop your interest in meaningful hobbies, good food and fine dining. Visit the Mega Atrium of SM Megamall on May 21 and learn new things while having fun brought to you by “Celebrations by Sharon.”
