Justin Bieber Shouts "Hello Manila!" in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Concert

Posted by JED on , under | comments (10)

Justin Bieber staged a very successful jampacked concert in Stadium Merdeka Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last night, April 21 as part of his "My World" 2011 Asian Tour. But one funny "boo-boo" happened when he showed up on stage and greeted his Malaysian fans "Hello Manila!".

According to a friend who is based there and personally witness the concert, the Canadian international pop teen sensation addressed the Malaysian concertgoers with "Hello Manila!" instead of "Hello Malaysia!".

What was he thinking? This must be organizers' mistakes - an honest mistake? Or Bieber must be confused or over-excited to meet his fans..Manila fans that is. I wonder if he gets even and will greet his Manila fans, "Hello Malaysia!" Hahahah!

Joel Madden, Good Charlotte's frontman, also had an impromptu number with the teen superstar on stage. They sang Dance Floor Anthem. That performance made Joel an instant hit. He even twitted, "I'm trending on Twitter right now? WTF man. That's what happens when you get on stage with Justin Bieber. Hell yeah... Thanks for the good times KL, Malaysia was good, now it's time for Singapore."

It is also reported that his girlfriend - the equally famous Selena Gomez - was also in Malaysia to give support and show her love to her Bieber! We heard some Malaysian fans didn't like it. But what can do you, they're inlove!

Incidentally, Justin Bieber will also hold his Manila concert on May 10, 2011 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds.

Q&A With Karl Urban, Vampire Leader in “Priest”

Posted by JED on Friday, April 22, 2011 , under | comments (0)

Karl Urban (“Star Trek,” “Lord of the Rings”) stars in Columbia Pictures’ new, post-apocalyptic horror thriller “Priest” as Black Hat, the evil leader of the bloodsuckers. He’s a former priest and vampire hunter, but now fancies himself the god of vampires.

“Priest” is set in an alternate world - one ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest (Paul Bettany) from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece (Lily Collins) is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on an obsessive quest to find her before they turn her into one of them.

Urban talks about “Priest” in the following interview:

Q: What sets this movie apart from other vampire films?

Karl Urban: I wouldn’t define this as just a vampire film. It’s a post-apocalyptic, futuristic, vampire western. It’s about a man who chooses to go against the system, to walk away from his life and everything that he has worked and fought for in order to do what is morally right . That’s the heart of the film.

Q: Did you prepare physically for the film? Did you have to do any training at all?

Karl: Absolutely, it was a massive physical undertaking. Paul Bettany and I underwent extensive training for the fight and action sequences. Blood was drawn. We were fortunate to work with some extremely talented people whose job it was to make us look good.

Q: Were you familiar at all with the comic book?

Karl: Once I was engaged in the process of creating the character then naturally as part of my research, I then referenced the comic. We were quite inspired by the graphic novel. It’s a good platform to start out. We certainly incorporated some key elements directly into my character. The hat, with the notch is a direct nod to the graphic novels.

Q: How was the atmosphere on the set? How was working with Paul?

Karl: It was fun. I had a really great time working with Paul. He’s a professional. He’s very charismatic, witty, and a real gentleman. Even when I accidentally crushed his fingers while shooting the epic train fight.

Q: So your character is definitely a threat.

Karl: Mainly to humans and fingers.

Q. How are the vampires in this film?

Karl: The vampires in our film are beasts. They are monsters, formidable and terrifying. My character is a priest, who falls in battle and is transformed into the fist human vampire.

Q: It seems you are taking on more villain roles.

Karl: Only because you've just seen me be one in this film. Bones in “Star Trek” is not a villain, Cooper in “Red” was not a villain and Judge Dredd is certainly not a villain. I just try to find interesting characters with engaging stories to tell. It’s all about the story.

Q: What were the best thing and the worst thing about the experience of shooting this film?

Karl: For me, I guess the best thing was probably the people involved - the cast, and Scott. The worst thing was probably the day where we were shooting a fight sequence. Paul is hanging onto the side of a train and I’m supposed to smash my boot down onto his hand. We’re in the take, I stomp on his hand and Paul screams out in pain, I'm thinking, “my God, he’s such a good actor {laughing}. So brilliant.” He took his hand off and started running around the set screaming. The ball of my foot had missed his hand, as rehearsed, but the heel of my boot did not. I’m tethered to the top of the train, I can’t move, can’t get to him to say “Sorry mate!” Seriously not fun.

Russell Brand is “Arthur,” The World's Only Lovable Billionaire

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

British comic Russell Brand steps up to leading man status as he stars in Warner Bros.' new comedy “Arthur.”

In this revamp of the classic ‘80s original, Brand re-invents the role of loveable billionaire Arthur Bach, an irresponsible charmer who has always relied on two things to get by: his limitless fortune and the good sense of lifelong nanny Hobson (Helen Mirren) to keep him out of trouble.

Now he faces his biggest challenge - choosing between an arranged marriage to ambitious corporate exec Susan (Jennifer Garner), that will ensure his lavish lifestyle, or an uncertain future with the one thing money can’t buy, Naomi (Greta Gerwig), the woman he really loves.
Brand calls the story and its core dilemma “funny, sweet and romantic, a beautiful depiction of a world in which love is important and people overcome obstacles to find truth.”

As Arthur deals with this pressing decision, it raises larger and more pertinent questions about what he plans to make of his life and what he really wants. Does he have the courage to follow his heart, choose love and be a man…or will he surrender to more of what Hobson tartly calls “your safari into the pointless”?

Screenwriter Peter Baynham, an Oscar® nominee for his work on “Borat,” says, “What I like about ‘Arthur’ is its many facets. It goes beyond the boy-meets-girl romantic comedy structure with an equally engaging connection between Arthur and Hobson; it’s a coming-of-age story as well as a romance.”

Similarly, Brand’s Arthur is entirely his own, though faithful to the character’s most endearing and exasperating foibles. Producer Chris Bender, who feels this set the tone for the entire production, says, “For fans of the first film, I believe they’ll see there was a lot of consideration that went into this. We felt it was a story worth telling again, and made funny in a way that applied more to our times, without losing touch with the themes and relationships that made it so special in the first place.

Regarding his predecessor’s performance, Brand says, “Dudley Moore was a joyful example of what can be accomplished through comedy and I have the greatest respect for him. His Arthur continues to exist and there’s no way we could take anything from it.”

Essentially it’s a feel-good romantic comedy about an eccentric, incredibly lovable and innocent character, a big kid at heart, who’s finding his way in the world. There’s a lot of broad, physical comedy but also some touching moments between Arthur and the special women in his life,” says director Jason Winer.

Ultimately, adds Brand, “It’s about how love inspires us to be our best selves.”

Opening across the Philippines on Black Saturday, April 23, “Arthur” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Kapamilya Karavan Highlights Bacolod City's Panaad Sa Negros Festivity

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

About 50,000 people filled the 24-hectare Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City, as ABS-CBN Regional Network Group’s Kapamilya Karavan, in collaboration with ABS-CBN Bacolod, hits Negros Occidental’s biggest festivity, the “Panaad Sa Negros,” featuring most sought after Kapamilya stars Coco Matin of Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin, John Pratts of Happy Yipee Yehey!, Maricar Reyes of Imortal and Kapamilya hunk Ron Morales and Prince of Pop Erik Santos.

Loud screams from thousands of loyal Negrosano Kapamilyas dominated the festival venue as each of the Kapamilya stars stepped on stage and gave their blazing performances. Some of the fans were lucky as they got to hug and even kiss their favorite celebrities. Negros’ local stars former PBB housemate Nel Rapiz, Dorothy “Dot-dot” Luarca of Kapamilya Mas Winner Ka and Shirin C. Khabbaz of MagTV Na Amiga! hosted this festive event.

Kapamilya hunk Ron Morales was first to perform. Girls were ecstatic as Ron sang “Harana.” The “kilig” atmosphere continued when he offered another song and invited a young teenage girl from the audience to sing with him. What made everyone more excited is when he took off his plaid polo and had it worn by the girl he’s singing with. This truly romantic gesture of Ron enlivened the Panaad Stadium.

If Ron enthralled the fans with his sizzling hot physique, Pop Prince Erik Santos maintained the romantic feel, as he sang some of his most wanted hits. Like Ron, Erik didn’t deprive his hugs and kisses to a lucky Kapamilya girl. Erik even initiated the romantic embrace while belting his songs of love.

The gentlemen were also big winners in the Kapamilya Karavan, as the beautiful Marcicar took center stage and gave her bubbly performance. All the male Negrosanos in the audience were amazed with Maricar’s radiant skin. That’s why when Maricar went near the audience area, cameras kept on clicking just to capture images of the gorgeous actress. Everyone was surprised when Maricar showed the rocker in her as she performed Imago’s “Akap.” Maricar enthusiastically congratulated the Negrosanos with the success of the Panaad festival and likewise commended some of Bacolod’s delicacies. “Sobrang sarap ng butterscotch,” she said.

The crowd became excited again when John Pratts started to perform. He sang two songs, but eventually gave his best dance moves, as requested by the Negrosanos. To jazz up his grooves, he invited some girls from the audience to dance with him, ala Superclub style. The girls were overjoyed with John’s invitation, so they grabbed and hugged him. One of them even attempted to take a picture of her with the ultimate “Supah” dancer. With all these reactions, John can’t explain the happiness he feels. “Grabe, hindi ko kinakaya ang energy ng mga taga-Bacolod… Sobrang saya dito,” he said.

Completing the pack of the country’s brightest celebrities featured in this year’s Kapamilya Karavan in Panaad Sa Negros is Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin lead actor Coco Martin. Even before he stepped on stage, his fans kept on shouting his name. “We love you Coco!,” goes their screams. The actor’s innate charisma definitely captivated the joyous hearts of the Negrosanons. As a gift for his fans, Coco serenaded the crowd with his love-inspired performances. He even invited a lady from the audience to sing with him. “Ngayon ko napatunayan na saan mang panig ng bansa, marami talagang loyal Kapamilyas,” he said.

The unforgettable Kapamilya Karavan ended with a colorful fireworks display presented by DSS Fireworks of Dumaguete City, the winner of the 1st Panaad Sa Negros Musical Pyrotechnics Competition.

Prior to the Kapamilya Karavan, ABS-CBN Bacolod also presented the awarding of 30 outstanding farmers, fishermen and livestock caretakers in an event dubbed as “Pasidungog sa Mangunguma, Mangingisda kag Manugsagud Sapat.” TV Patrol Negros anchor Ryan Gamboa and The Morning Show host Honey Grace Catalan hosted the awarding ceremonies. The award-giving event is under Negros Occidental’s Food Security Program led by Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

Two days after eye doctor Dr. Mae Singson announces that Fatima Soriano - the Perez' family's chosen beneficiary of AJ Perez' cornea, is not eligible for corneal transplant, Sta. Lucia Eye Bank immediately awarded AJ's left cornea to another lucky recipient - Lawrence Villanueva.

Lawrence, who has been suffering from poor eyesight on his left eye for more than three years now, can't contained his happiness on this very good news.

God really works in different ways talaga,” 28 year-old Lawrence said.

Kahit na anong donor pa iyan, kidney or heart, it’s their legacy eh. It’s part of them also,” he added.

Lawrence, who personally claimed AJ's left cornea, had his successful eye operation today. He is also scheduled to meet the Perez' family anytime after today's operation.

Dr. Menguita Padilla, President of Sta. Lucia Eye Bank praises the Perez family in their decision to donate AJ's cornea despite the pain they're going through right now due to the lost of their son.

Humahanga ako sa mga tao na, imagine, nagdadalamhati ka, naghihinagpis ka, namatay ang anak mo, pero naisip mo pa na mag-donate,” Dr. Padilla said.

Dr. Menguita also revealed that AJ's right cornea will be given to an unnamed 8-year-old boy.
