Angel Locsin and John Lloyd Cruz's "Imortal" Will Have an Unconventional Ending on April 29

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

"Paano pag nagsama yung dalawang dugo, ano mangyayari? End of the world na ba?"

"We'd like to end the show in a very unconventional way.

"I said yes to this project because I feel that it's a way of giving back to my audience."

"What we're very proud of, two things. The first thing, hindi napabayaan ung production... Na dapat nafu-fulfill ung promise sa audience na every night there's something, na 'oy ang bongga ng fights, mas bongga 'yan bukas or meron uli bukas.'"

"On the second level, on the deeper level, hindi namin napabayaan ng creative yung narrative ng drama. Alam namin na it came from Lobo, mas malalim yung mythology niya, madami talaga siyang portals, connections..."

Bruno Mars Visits Bantay Bata

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

Filipino-American pop singer Bruno Mars is surely having a grand time here in the Philippines.

On Thursday, Mars performed to a sold-out crowd at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu and last night at the Araneta Coliseum.

He was obviously surprised when his Filipina mom showed up at the event.

Mars’ mom Bernadette Hernandez said she is very proud of her son because he still has a heart of a Filipino and he never forgets to look back to where his family came from.

"We're a very close Filipino family, and that's what I want my kids to carry on to the next generation," his mom said.

She said she is delighted that her son was able to visit the country.

"I wish I could go to every concert 'cause he's been traveling the world and it's amazing, you know. He's seen a lot of places he'd never seen before, and I'm glad he got to see where I came from," she said.

Mars’ mom confessed she never thought her son would make it this big.

"Of course every mother feels their son is the best. I always thought that. But to see people and hear other people say that to me, I'm so proud," she said.

Meanwhile, Jamie Bayot, the elder sister of Mars, revealed that her brother continues to be a humble and grounded person despite his popularity.

"Everybody recognizes him, but he still has the same heart, you know. He's still funny," she said.

As a proof to this, Mars remained low key as he went out of his way to visit the children of Bantay Bata 163 yesteday, April 8.

The children performed a number of songs for the Grammy Award winner and he willingly joined them in singing.

Mars vows that this will definitely not be the last time that he will visit the country because of the warm welcome the Filipinos have showed him.

He also said that for his Filipino fans, he will strive to do better.

Prince William of Wales - Catherine Middleton: A Royal Wedding - The GMA News TV Coverage

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Every viewer who will tune in to GMA News TV on April 29 will have a guaranteed all-access pass to the wedding of His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales to Catherine Middleton on that much-awaited day.

GMA News TV will be airing live footage of the wedding by the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) via Reuters from 5 to 8 pm of that day.

This belies rumors that a lone Philippine network has clinched the exclusive right to air the Royal Wedding in the Philippines. "There is no single rights holder to coverage and airing of the wedding," a foreign-based wire agency executive said.

In addition, three of GMA Network's top news anchors - Jessica Soho, Vicky Morales and Connie Sison - will be covering the event, backed by the network's veteran field producers, cameramen, and London-based stringers.

Beginning April 18 and up to the time the royal couple leave for their honeymoon, GMA News TV will provide British royalty watchers with daily news updates and trivia on the wedding. Viewers will be given insights on the historical context and protocol involved at every step of the event.

GMA News TV will also be airing a special documentary by Indigo Films entitled "Kate and William: Inside the Royal Wedding" on April 24, the Sunday before the wedding. The documentary features interviews with the couple and their close friends as well as designers and suppliers involved in the historic event.

Eleven-year-old little belter Mimi with mom Laila Paladan never thought that their persistence in joining the most talked about Happy Yipee Yehey! (HYY) game Pera O Bayong will make them become instant millionaires.

The Paladan family is currently facing financial problems. They need to pay P200,000 for their house, or else they’ll be forced to move out. Paying the amount is quite impossible for their family since Mimi’s father is only a jeepney driver. Read full transcript here:

Naalala nyo 'yun.

Kanina ho, at for the past days, mga ilang araw ho, marami akong pinagdaanan eh.

"After po nung Wilyonaryo, nagkaroon po ng insidente with well-loved President, the late Cory Aquino.

"After po nung pangyayaring un, kinabukasan, dapat magti-taped (episode) kami.

"So after po nun, live yun, I'm sure nanonood ang mga tiga-ABS at totoo 'to. Wag na wag kayong magsisinungaling. Kahit saan tayo mapunta, haharapin ko 'to.

Walang nakakaalam nito eh.

Parang wala kaming respeto.

"Ano hong nangyari? Ang nangyari ito. Alam ng Diyos to.

I-stop yung show at bigyan na lang ako ng once a week show.

Sinong gagawa nito?

"Bakit? Dahil sinuportahan ko si Sen. Villar ganito tingin nyo sa kin? Nakita ko ung tao maganda puso eh, nakita ko ung tao tumutulong talaga sa mahihirap eh, kaya I'll stick with him.

Ung iba po dyan, 25 years, 20 years, 18 years na sa kanila.

"Alam nyo dapat suspended ang show, suspended last night ng 20 days to 30 days.

"Meron bang gumagawa nyan? Kung may gumagawa man, mabuti, magsama-sama tayo.

Thank you so much, magandang gabi po. Thank you!

Cebuana Lhuillier Follows Procter & Gamble Philippines and Jollibee To Temporarily Suspends Sponsorship on Willing Willie

Posted by JED on Friday, April 8, 2011 , under | comments (0)

A week after Jollibee Food Corporation suspends Mang Inasal's ad placement on Willing Willie, and one day after Procter & Gamble Philippines decided to to do the same, Cebuana Lhuillier follows suit.

These actions from advertisers came after the controversial March 12 episode of Willing Willie where six-year-old Jan-Jan Suan were shown doing the "macho-dance routine" in exchange of P10,000.

In the official statement posted on their Facebook Fan Page, Cebuana Lhuillier said they temporarily suspend its "Watch and Win" segment sponsorship starting Monday, April 11, "while resolution on the matter is pending."

Here is the full statement of Cebuana Lhuillier:

In regard to the issue of the alleged child abuse that happened in TV5's Willing Willie show, the Cebuana Lhuillier Management has decided to temporarily suspend its segment sponsorship in the said show, effective April 11, 2011, while resolution on the matter is pending.

While we support programs that give hope to Filipinos here and abroad, we expect our business partners to promote good values, protect children's rights and exercise prudence in communicating to the general public.

We have taken note of the TV5 Management's official statement and the corrective measures they have taken. We trust that they will ensure that a similar incident will not happen again. We hope that the concerned authorities will resolve this matter soon.

Cebuana Lhuillier Management."

However, on the show's March 29 episode, Willie Revillame threatens those who plans to pull-out its ad placement on the show to suffer from their decision.

TV5 Questions MTRCB’s Jurisdiction on ‘Willing Willie’ Case

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

In the official press statement received by Showbiznest from TV5, the Kapatid Network said that the counsel for Willing Willie challenges the jurisdiction of the MTRCB in hearing the show's alleged violations.

This is pertaining to the hearing at the MTRCB office regarding the controversial March 12 episode of Willing Willie wherein a 6-year-old boy named Jan Jan was made to dance like a macho dancer by host Willie Revillame in exchange for P10,000.00.

Here is the full statement from TV5 regarding the hearing at the MTRCB office Thursday, April 7:

At today's hearing of the Complaint against TV5 for the airing of the 'Wiltime Bigtime' segment of Willing Willie episode on 12 March 2011, TV5 represented by ACCRA Law, argued that the MTRCB has no jurisdiction over the subject matter, particularly that the Complaint is a direct accusation of alleged acts of child abuse, which is criminal in nature.

Even assuming the MTRCB has jurisdiction, the creation and composition of the present panel do not afford TV5 due process, particularly its right to be heard by an impartial tribunal, considering that all 3 panel members are conflicted as they have close links or relationships with a rival network involved in legal cases with TV5 and Willie Revillame.

Furthermore, it was found that this rival network has also aired dance numbers of children with very similar dance movements as those of Jan Jan's. These dance performances aired in the other network were presented to the MTRCB at today's hearing.

TV5 also submitted its report to the MTRCB on its internal investigation into the incident involving the six-year-old boy Jan Jan Suan who performed a dance number on the program Willing Willie.

A key finding of the investigation was that the versions of the incident that were circulated on YouTube and Facebook were substantially different from what actually took place and was aired on the TV program. While the segment where Jan Jan appeared spanned a period of 48 minutes in the actual show, the YouTube and Facebook versions lasted for only around ten minutes or less.

Apparently, the YouTube and Facebook videos were deliberately spliced and edited to put the program Willing Willie and its host Willie Revillame, as well as the program's live audience, in the worst possible light. They made it seem as if Jan Jan was crying throughout his performance, as if the boy had been coerced, and as if Revillame had acted callously to humiliate the young contestant.

In fact, the full, unedited recording of the program showed that Jan Jan was clearly and more often 'emoting' while dancing and that when he did cry it was because of the intimidating presence of Bonel Balingit and because he had lost in the game portion of the show. In the unedited version, it was plainly obvious that Jan Jan had not been forced to dance against his will. For his part, Revillame was very favorably impressed by Jan Jan's performance and sought to praise and celebrate rather than put him down.

In the context of the full performance of Jan Jan on Willing Willie, it is exceedingly clear that he was not coerced in any way; that his performance was not lewd or obscene.

The Complaint speaks of gyrating movements which, however, are not obscene per se nor suggestive of a sexual or immoral act. Indeed such movements are part of a dance form called 'body wave.' The 'body wave' is no different from the familiar dance moves we have been accustomed to today, such as the 'lambada,' 'belly dancing' and the 'spaghetti' dance.

As far as the minor is concerned, he is exhibiting a dance movement. In fact, body wave dancing has become part and parcel of Philippine pop culture. In many town fiestas and private gatherings, adults allow their children to dance in this manner.

Finally, if indeed the MTRCB sees it fit to impose further regulations on performances and appearance of minors in television programs, then its inquiry and/or investigation should involve all networks, the KBP, and the MTRCB. Thereafter, new rules, standards or guidelines to govern or even prohibit minors from performing or appearing in television programs may be formulated."

GMA-7’s afternoon drama Nita Negrita continues to inspire and warm the hearts of afternoon viewers as Nita (Barbie Forteza) moves closer towards completing her search for her biological family.

After escaping the treacherous hands of Danica (Diana Zubiri), Nita finds herself in yet another unsafe place with Ben (Jim Pebangco), a friend of Nita’s biological father Edgar, who pretends to genuinely help Nita find her real parents.

As Ben carries on with his ploy, he manipulates both Mira (Lotlot de Leon) and Danica, using the information he has about Nita, Edgar and Mira. Ben tells Mira that Nita could be her missing daughter Antoinette, but convinces her that they should first undergo a DNA test to which Mira willingly agrees.

On the other hand, Ben tricks Danica into thinking that his plans to investigate Mira and Nita’s past will work to her advantage and regain Arturo’s (Zoren Legaspi) love in the end. He offers to sell her the results of the DNA in exchange for a huge amount of money.

Unknown to Ben, he will also uncover secrets of his own concerning his family.

To whom will Ben agree to give the results of the DNA test? And what could be the reason behind Ben’s determination in meddling with Nita’s life?

Nita Negrita also stars Joshua Dionisio, Lexi Fernandez, Rachelle Anne Go, Lollie Mara, Bubbles Paraiso, and Ms. Nova Villa.

Find out the answers to these questions on Nita Negrita, which airs weekdays after Alakdana on GMA Haponalo.

Magic Palayok remains to be one of the most watched primetime soaps on the Telebabad block. It has beaten all counterpart programs pitted against it with a Mega Manila household rating of 23.9 percent versus ABS-CBN’s Mula sa Puso 11.6 percent on March 28. This impressive lead continued on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after its posted 23.5 percent on March 30, 10.6 percent on March 30 and 18 percent on March 31.

The telefantasya, which is created by the GMA Entertainment TV Group, never ceases to provide a unique blend of charm, entertainment and magical treat for audiences of all ages. Viewers especially the younger ones are fascinated on the adventures of Cookie (Angeli Nicole Sanoy) and her Magic Palayok.

This week, Cookie is back under the care of her wicked aunties, Yvonne (Cherie Gil) and Natasha (Chynna Ortaleza). This came after Natasha discovered that Ricky (Frank Garcia) was just pretending to be Cookie’s real father, Richard Cruz. With a heavy heart, Cookie must return and live again in their mansion.

To cheer her up, Natasha and Yvonne bring Cookie in a carnival. Here, Cookie meets a magician named Kardo. They get along instantly and Cookie completely enjoys his company.

Their conversation is abruptly cut short when Cookie hears the name of Richard Cruz being paged in the area. Cookie quickly runs towards the customer service and upon her arrival, she sees Kardo claiming he is Richard Cruz!

Will Cookie’s search for her missing father finally ends? Is Kardo the real Richard Cruz?

TV5′s Latest Letter to The MTRCB Regarding Jan-Jan Incident

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

The Kapatid Network promises reforms to avoid the controversial March 12 episode of Willing Willie to happen again.

Below is the letter sent by TV5 to MTRCB on April 4, 2011:

HON. GRACE POE LLAMANZARES
Chairman
Movie and Television Review and Classification Board

Dear Chairman Llamanzares:

We wish to thank the MTRCB for giving us an opportunity to be heard and for withholding judgment on our network, the producers and Mr. Willie Revillame until after due process is observed. While many comments have been made on the controversy, it is important for us to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident. For this reason, our network is currently conducting a thorough investigation on the matter.

As Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of TV5, I have been tasked to lead the investigation together with our Chief Legal Counsel and newly appointed Internal Ombudsman, Atty. Christine C. Ona. We wish to inform the Board that we are now in the final stages of the investigation. We humbly request, however, that we be given a few more days to complete and prepare our report to the Board on the said investigation. In the meantime, we hope you will allow us to quickly recount what we have done so far.

Last March 28, we expressed our sincere and deep apologies for the segment of “Willing Willie” featuring the 6 year-old Jan-Jan Suan which viewers may have found offensive or in bad taste. We wish to reiterate that the program was conceptualized to provide wholesome entertainment, bring hope and shine the spotlight on ordinary Filipinos. We provide the participants a venue to show their talents, share their stories, express their messages and make their dreams come true. It is not our desire to humiliate, abuse or take advantage of any participant in the program.

Beyond issuing an apology, we immediately implemented the following measures:

1. Caused the preparation of stricter guidelines on the appearance and performance of minors, particularly children, on all TV5 programs.

2. Required that all “Willing Willie” auditions as well as auditions of other TV5 programs be supervised by TV5 representatives designated by the TV5 Ombudsman.

3. Appointed an internal Ombudsman to review any incidents of this nature and to whom any complaints may be referred for immediate disposition.

4. Imposed a moratorium on the participation of minors in all contests and game shows on TV5 until such time that the preceding measures are fully in place.

Additionally, we have created our Standards Compliance Group to formulate and periodically review our network’s new broadcast standards and policies, as well as monitor compliance therewith. The Standards Compliance Group shall consist of two units - the Standards Advisory Board and the Compliance Unit.

The Standards Advisory Board shall be chaired by TV5’s Chief Operating Officer and shall include a psychologist, a creative director, and a children’s communications expert. As of today, Ms. Feny Bautista, the president of the Philippine Children’s Television Foundation and Dr. Camille Garcia, a child psychologist of the DOH-licensed Clinic of the Holy Spirit, have accepted our invitation to be part of the said board.

The Compliance Unit shall be headed by the TV5 Ombudsman and composed of at least ten monitoring and compliance officers. They shall have authority to review all programs, plugs and other non-program materials aired on TV5, as well as on AksyonTV, Radyo5 and Sports5.

We are taking positive action, not only to prevent the occurrence of any similar incident, but to uplift our standards especially with respect to children and minors. With the steps we are taking, we hope to be the least frequent visitor to the MTRCB among the major networks.

As for Jan-Jan, we wish to tell the Board that our network, with the approval of his parents, has engaged a team of psychologists to attend to the boy’s needs.

Finally, TV5 reaffirms its commitment to responsible broadcasting. We wish to assure the Board that we are not taking the incident lightly and we will be taking appropriate action after our investigation is completed. We join the Board in its concern for upholding contemporary Filipino cultural values; hence we are extending our full cooperation to the MTRCB in the performance of its mandate.

Very truly yours,

ROBERTO V. BARREIRO
Executive Vice President and COO
