Charice: Home for Valentine's - Charice Kapuso TV Special

Charice Pempengco is back and is preparing for quite a treat for us. She’s busy preparing for a TV special for GMA-7 in time for month of love. Her special has been in preparation for a few months as the international singer was supposed to shoot “Charice: Home for Christmas” last November but it had to be postponed because she was sick, a case of stomach flu. Ogie Alcasid, Rachelle Ann Go and Elmo Magalona are some of the performers in the GMA-7 special titled “Charice: Home for Valentine’s,” which will be aired on February 13. With her lovely voice, she will have us falling in love all over again. As excited as we are to such an entertainment treat, Charice seems to be elated about her first TV special as well. Charice told the press, “Very excited po ako at very thankful. Nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng sumuporta sa akin… Dapat Christmas pa po ’to pero unfortunately, nagkasakit ako. May lumalabas kasi na sinadya ko raw i-cancel pero hindi naman nila alam kung ano talaga ang nangyari. Ngayon na bumalik ako, ito ang patunay na gagawin ko naman talaga [ang special].”

Since she is all geared up to make us swoon this Valentine’s, we can’t help but wonder if this young talent has a certain Valentine this year. When asked who her Valentine date is this year, the young singer said, “Family ko po!” But she admitted that there is young new foreign singer who has expressed a romantic interest in her. Although it has only gone as far as leaving messages, she has finally gotten permission from her mom to start dating. “Si Mommy po, sabi niya pwede na po but I think hindi pa talaga. Minsan naiisip ko nga na i-try pero hindi pa talaga ako ready.

Charice’s mom is definitely a big part of her Valentine’s. She is not only her mother but also mentor, friend, supporter and definitely biggest fan. As she was watching her daughter rehearse, she couldn’t help but cry. We all know that the mom-daughter tandem struggled through real tough times. One of the songs she will be performing in the GMA special is the song they apparently comforted themselves with when Charice felt like giving up after losing in singing competitions. “Nang time na natalo siya, depress na depress siya nun… tingnan mo ’tong kanta na ’to, pakinggan mo ’to. Ito ang magbibigay sa’yo ng inspirasyon. Kasi ayaw na niyang sumali sa singing contest,” shared Mommy Rachel to “Chika Minute” of GMA news “24 Oras.”

It makes us contemplate on who our Valentines are. We do get caught up racking our brains on how to impress our boyfriends and girlfriends. But when you think of the kind of love and sacrifice our parents has bestowed in our lives, it’s a no brainer.

“Charice: Home for Valentine’s” will air on February 13, 8:30 p.m., under the direction of Louie Ignacio on GMA-7.

Kapamilya Network Leads Nationwide TV Ratings in January 2011, According To Kantar Media

ABS-CBN Corporation, the country's largest Filipino-owned multimedia conglomerate, opened the year 2011 on top as its programs continue to dominate the national TV ratings, according to the latest report of Kantar Media.

For the month of January, ABS-CBN garnered a 40% audience share or nine points higher than GMA-7's 31% on primetime despite the Kapuso Channel's two new nightly offerings.

ABS-CBN's primetime series Noah starring Piolo Pascual and Zaijian Jaranilla got a 27.6% rating or 4.6 points higher than Dwarfina when GMA-7 launched it last January 10.

More Filipinos preferred the remake of Mara Clara on ABS-CBN, which rated even higher with 29.6% or 10.6 points more than the remake of Machete when it debuted on GMA-7 last January 24 with only 19%.

On the other hand, ABS-CBN's own new offering, the fantaserye Mutya, instantly made a splash with a rating of 32.6% during its maiden episode last January 31.

Overall, nine ABS-CBN programs made it to the country's top 10 most-watched programs in January topped by Mutya.

In close second was Mara Clara with an average rating of 30% and followed by Noah with 27.7%.

TV Patrol, the most-viewed primetime newscast in the country, obtained 27.2% national ratings and placed third in the top 10 list.

For its timeslot, TV Patrol has been consistently beating 24 Oras (20.8%) and TV5's Willing-Willie (12.8%), contrary to the impression being claimed by other sources.

The other ABS-CBN programs in the top 10 include Imortal (26.3%) in 5th place, followed by weekend top-raters Wansapanataym (24.3%) and Maalaala Mo Kaya (23.4%).

Korina Sanchez's Rated K (21.6%) topped all current affairs programs and placed eighth overall in the top 10 list, while Goin Bulilit (21.2%) placed 10th.

The Kapamilya Network remains number one nationwide with the highest overall audience share of 36% over GMA-7's audience share of 34% for the month of January.

ABS-CBN generated net income of P2.9 billion for the first nine months of 2010, as it sustained into the third quarter the strong growth momentum in regular advertising revenues in the first semester. This profit level is more than double the net income of P1.3 billion in the first nine months of 2009.

Kantar Media, a global market research group, offers audience research measurement systems in 32 countries. It started releasing its Philippine television audience measurement data in February 2009 with panels composed of 1,370 representative households covering urban Philippines and reporting on seven [sic] sectors - National Capital Region, North Luzon, Central Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court.

Kapuso Network Snags Top Spot Nationwide

ABS-CBN may soon lose its claim as the national ratings leader. If it doesn’t shape up. The Kapuso network sealed its leadership in Mega Manila last January and in the recent NUTAM data that covers the entire Philippines, GMA Network showed upward ratings trend, and in fact, displaced ABS-CBN in both audience share and people rating.

As a matter of fact, GMA Network has become the no.1 network, according to data supplied by the independent research group AGB Nielsen, with 33.4 average audience share, 0.7 higher than the Kapamilya’s 32.7. In the people rating category, the Kapuso network soared slightly, 0.1 higher than ABS-CBN. GMA Network scored 6.6 versus ABS-CBN’s 6.5.

The data cover the period Jan. 10 to 25.

From September 2003, the Kapuso station has become th favorite network among TV households in Mega Manila, giving the Kapamilya difficult time to regain its lead held in 16 years.

Can the Kapuso network finally claim it’s the no. 1 network in the entire archipelago?

If the figures we have right now continue in the coming months, the Kapamilya network might just settle in the second spot.

The Kapamilya network’s bosses could be in panic mode these days. Last Monday, it piloted Mutya, a material based upon Pablo S. Gomez’s komiks serial. It’s fantasy, and the reading that launch is giving us is the network is going back to a format that once gave it considerable lead in the ratings race not too long ago.

But these days, the Kapuso network seems to have refined the format and is winning new audiences with its two new series launched this month—Dwarfina and Machete.

How about the Pangilinan-led TV5? Despite the recent multi-million investment to push the channel, TV5 remains a far third. It was 17.6 points behind GMA in audience share with only 15.8 points; and 3.5 points behind GMA in people rating with only 3.1.

Not even the romance between Willie Revillame and Shalani Soledad being cooked up by the Revillame spinners can give the fledgling network enough teeth to bite ABS-CBN, more so GMA Network.

'Alakdana' Pulled High Ratings on Its Pilot Airing

GMA Network’s afternoon drama series "Alakdana" easily strikes its magic among viewers after it pulled in high pilot rating last Jan. 24 based on people data from the more widely recognized ratings service Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

Alakdana has outranked its competition on its debut with a rating of 8.1 percent, almost double the 3.9 percent of its counterpart program on the rival channel. This impressive lead continued on the Tuesday and Wednesday after it posted 6.7 percent on Jan. 25 and 6.8 percent on Jan. 26.

Under the direction of Mac Alejandre, Alakdana is headlined by promising Tween star Louise de los Reyes who quickly captivates audiences with her striking charisma and sheer talent. Sneak Peek - "World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles"

For years, there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world - Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, China. But in 2011, what were once just sightings will become a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown forces, in Columbia Pictures' new sci-fi action-thriller “World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles.”

As people everywhere watch the world’s great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It’s up to a Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they’ve ever encountered before.

Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, “World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles” stars Aaron Eckhart (“The Dark Knight”), Michelle Rodriguez (“The Fast and the Furious”) and Bridget Moynahan (“The Recruit”).

A film like “World Invasion” defies genres - it has elements of action, science fiction and war thrown into one. And that's exactly what attracted most of the cast and crew to the project.

"I grew up on these types of movies," director Jonathan Liebesman shares. "War movies and science-fiction films are my favorite. Whether it's `Braveheart' or `Alien', or `Terminator.' And here you get to meld the two."

But Liebesman is very specific about which genre comes first: "It's not an alien movie that happens to have soldiers. It's a war movie with aliens."

That spirit is also what drew Aaron Eckhart, who plays Staff Sergeant Michael Nantz in the film. Sgt. Nantz leads a platoon of marines into the City of Angels after it comes under attack by invading aliens. "I did this because of director, Jonathan Liebesman," Eckhart says. "I felt that he wanted to make a realistic war movie, and that's what I wanted to do."

Opening soon across the Philippines, “World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International. Visit for trailers, exclusive content and free downloads. Like us at and join our fan contests.

"I Am Number Four" - New Sci-Fi Thriller From "Transformers" Producer

From the director of the No. 1 box-office hit “Eagle Eye” and the producer of the blockbuster “Transformers” series comes DreamWorks Pictures' “I Am Number Four,” a suspense-filled action-thriller featuring relatable, engaging characters grounded in the familiar realm of high school but caught up in a deadly manhunt.

Based on the best-selling book by Pittacus Lore, “I Am Number Four” revolves about an extraordinary young man, John Smith (Alex Pettyfer), who is a fugitive on the run from ruthless enemies sent to destroy him. Changing his identity, moving from town to town with his guardian Henri (Timothy Olyphant), John is always the new kid with no ties to his past. In the small Ohio town he now calls home, John encounters unexpected, life-changing events - his first love (Dianna Agron), powerful new abilities and a connection to the others who share his incredible destiny.

The film’s classic dramatic elements are set to draw the audience into the thriller from the opening scene to the climax. The lead character, John Smith, is struggling with the realization that who he always thought he was and who he really is are polar opposites, and he must make up his mind whether or not to accept his destiny - and the sacrifices it entails.

As producer Michael Bay says, “John aka Number Four has a destiny that’s going to catch up to him whether he wants to face it or not. That’s where the drama of this movie comes from. This teenager finally finds what he’s looking for, but he can’t have it because he has to save the world first.

At the same time, John is a typical teen, pushing boundaries, challenging his guardian Henri at every turn, but not fully realizing the consequences. It is real-life drama with high stakes.

The character-driven suspense will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. As director D.J. Caruso explains, “The more you care about a character on a real level, when you put him or her in suspenseful situations, the more real and the more terrifying the suspense is going to be because you really feel for that character.

Caruso found that combining the real-life drama the characters experience in “I Am Number Four” with their otherworldly abilities and keeping it “real” was both an enjoyable experience and a challenge for him as a filmmaker. “The thing I enjoyed the most was keeping the drama incredibly real so that when the fantastical kicked in, you were relating to it on a human level,” he says.

“I Am Number Four” is the biggest effects movie Caruso has ever done and he is finding Michael Bay’s experience as a director of such mega-hits as “Transformers” and “Armageddon” an invaluable help. “Michael has been very helpful with the physicality of what needs to happen on set when you are dealing with a CG character,” explains Caruso.

Michael Bay equally admires his director, “D.J. has an incredible ability to get in touch with the reality of his young characters’ lives. It’s not easy to make an alien kid with super powers feel real - an authentic hero that audiences could relate to.”

Caruso was immediately captivated by the story of “I Am Number Four,” particularly the character of John Smith, played by Alex Pettyfer. “I was really attracted to it from the character standpoint - this disenfranchised teenager who keeps moving around, not really putting down roots, and trying to figure out who he is. At the same time, he’s got this hidden destiny. I thought it was a really cool story.

Caruso admits that he is interested in characters who are going through a dark period. “Through that darkness they figure out where the light is, and they find something good. What I enjoy exploring is the notion that you have to experience some bad things in order to grow up, and to find out who you are. Thematically, that happens in this movie as well.”

Opening soon across the Philippines, “I Am Number Four” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.

‘I Heart You Pare’ Premieres This February 7 on GMA-7

Philippine primetime’s most awaited romantic-comedy series is set to air its pilot episode this Monday night!

Beginning February 7, GMA Network takes a bold step towards revolutionizing the landscape of local TV programming this year by introducing a refreshingly out-of-the-ordinary primetime offering that will definitely leave audiences in awe of its wildly inventive and amusing storyline. Viewers will be delighted to watch their favorite stars playing unusual roles in the romantic-comedy series, I ♥ You Pare (I Heart You Pare).

Starring the blockbuster leads of Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and 2010 Star Awards for TV Best Actor Dingdong Dantes, this lighthearted Telebabad series features Regine in an offbeat role as Tonya/Tonette, a conservative, old-fashioned probinsyana who crosses paths with the carefree, impulsive guy Kenneth played by Dingdong.

I ♥ You Pare is the first primetime team up of both stars, who underwent major makeovers not just with their looks but also in the characters they portray, something that their fans and supporters should watch out for. Regine has been the reigning queen of the romantic comedy genre, with her star power expected to shine ever more as she reinvents herself with an entirely new role in the series. Dingdong, who was recently nominated as Best Actor at the 15th Asian Television Awards, displays his versatility as he dabbles in comedy for the very first time.

Leading the grand ensemble of cast is a pool of talented actors whose characters are very close to Tonya’s heart: witness a surprising performance from veteran actor Tirso Cruz III who plays a gay role for the first time, as Uncle Cesar, Tonya’s protective uncle ; comebacking actors Boy Alano as Coka and Joel Saracho as Pepsi, the close friends of Uncle Cesar known as Soft Drink Beauties; heartthrob Marc Abaya, who won the Best Supporting Actor Award for his latest indie film, makes hearts flutter as he assumes the character of Joel, a friendly and flirtatious hunk who would fall in love with Tonya; and theater actress Via Antonio unleashes her comedic genius and acting prowess as Polly, Tonya’s queer bestfriend.

Playing equally vital roles are the characters associated with Kenneth including Ian Veneracion as Ramon, Kenneth’s “perfect brother”; Luz Valdez as Charito; Kenneth’s religious Tita; Butz Aquino as Henry, Kenneth’s domineering father; and Luane Dy as Nikki, the woman torn between brothers Kenneth and Ramon.

Spicing up Kenneth and Tonya’s lives are Ehra Madrigal as Mandy, Kenneth’s obsessive lover; Antonio Aquitania as Sonny Boy, Mandy’s gangster brother; Kevin Santos as Joni, Kenneth’s homophobic bestfriend; and Carlo Gonzales as Caloy, Sonny Boy’s henchman who is in love with Mandy.

Making I ♥ You Pare even grander are the scene-stealing actors and actresses who join Tonette and Kenneth in Club Love: Paolo Ballesteros as Vodka, Club Love’s star performer and Tonette’s fiercest rival; Joey Paras as Serbeza, Tonette’s friend in Club Love; Peter Serrano as Brandy, Vodka’s partner in crime; and Miss Celia Rodriguez as Mama Marita, Kenneth’s aunt who owns Club Love.

During one fateful night, Tonya and Kenneth meet in a bar in Vigan. As they spend time at the bar drinking and getting acquainted, Tonya and Kenneth share an accidental kiss. After this unexpected encounter, Tonya and Kenneth part ways and lead separate lives. By some weird twist of fate, Tonya and Kenneth meet again, this time with Tonya posing as the gay Tonette in the bar that Kenneth manages.

While both Tonette and Kenneth share not just the same fate of hiding from their misfortunes but also each other’s secrets and inhibitions, will the truth find a way to spark romance between the unlikely lovers? Will there be a happily ever after ending for the conservative Tonya and the happy-go-lucky Kenneth, or will it be a crazy love story between the flamboyant Tonette and the alpha male Kenneth?

Directed by Andoy Ranay and Bb. Joyce Bernal together with Denoy Navarro-Punio as headwriter, I ♥ You Pare also showcases special musical and production numbers from Regine as she struts on stage with 15 professional drag performers known as Club Love Gays who were scrupulously selected from more than 200 professional impersonators and entertainers who auditioned to be part of the series.

I ♥ You Pare’s theme songs, True Romance from Regine’s latest album Fantasy and This Guy’s In Love With You Pare, which was originally sung by Parokya ni Edgar, gets a new interpretation from Regine and Dingdong.

Join the fresh tandem of Regine and Dingdong as they give the performance of their lives in I ♥ YOU PARE beginning Monday, February 7 right after Machete on GMA Telebabad.

Viewers worldwide can also catch the much anticipated premiere of I ♥ YOU PARE beginning February 9 only on GMA Pinoy TV.

According to a report by radaronline on Tuesday, Lohan is reportedly being considered a suspect in the theft of a high end piece of jewelry.

Cops have asked a Los Angeles court for a search warrant for Lohan’s Venice Beach home, explaining that they have possession of a photograph and video in which Lohan is seen wearing the missing piece of jewelry which includes a necklace with $ 5,000 value.

But it is still unclear whether the judge approved the search warrant.

Careless Lies Go Awry in “Just Go With It”

In Columbia Pictures' new romantic comedy “Just Go With It,” a plastic surgeon (Adam Sandler), romancing a much younger schoolteacher, enlists his loyal assistant (Jennifer Aniston) to pretend to be his soon to be ex-wife, in order to cover up a careless lie. When more lies backfire, the assistant's kids become involved, and everyone heads off for a weekend in Hawaii that will change all their lives.

At the center of “Just Go With It” is an everyday guy who has let a careless lie get away from him. “At the beginning of the movie, my character, Danny, was going to get married, but he gets his heart broken,” says Adam Sandler. “The night of his heartbreak he happens to have the ring on and a young lady is nice to him, because she thinks he’s married and thinks he’s harmless and won’t do anything that other guys were trying to do. A light goes off in his head.

The ring becomes his scheme to avoid getting his heart broken: the ladies think he’s off the table, and with no strings attached, no one gets hurt - especially not Danny. But when he meets Palmer (Brooklyn Decker), the girl of his dreams, his lies come back to haunt him - she thinks he’s married. Instead of coming clean, he chooses to weave an even more tangled web: he invents a fake wife - to be played by his long-suffering assistant, Katherine (Aniston) - from whom he can get a fake divorce, clearing the way for smooth sailing with Palmer.

But that’s just the start - as Danny and Katherine attempt to keep up the charade, the lie keeps getting bigger and bigger. “Every lie has a domino effect,” says director Dennis Dugan who most recently directed Sandler in “Grown Ups,” the star’s biggest worldwide hit to date, taking in more than $260 million.

Before Katherine knows it, her kids, Maggie and Michael, have been looped into the lie, but they’ll need a little more convincing…especially when Michael sees a way to turn the tables on Danny. Before he knows it, Danny is on his way to Hawaii with a fake wife, fake kids, his real cousin (who’s playing the fake wife’s fake boyfriend) - all in an effort to convince Palmer that he’s a stand-up guy.

Overseeing the production is director Dennis Dugan, whose films have taken in more than a billion dollars worldwide. Dugan marks his sixth collaboration with Sandler on “Just Go With It” (and recently wrapped production on their seventh, the comedy “Jack and Jill,” in theaters this fall). The director says that he has enjoyed his fifteen-year relationship with Sandler. “We have a great way of working together,” he says. “I try to figure out what he wants to see, what he wants, what he’s picturing in his head, and then I try to put my spin on it and see how magnificent we can make it.

There's a specific way that we work together,” Dugan adds. “Adam and I have a similar approach to comedy. As crazy as it gets, we try to base it in reality. We tell all the actors who work with us that everybody can get as crazy as they want, but we try to keep it all in the same style.

Opening across the Philippines on February 16, “Just Go With It” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International. Visit for trailers, exclusive content and free downloads. Like us at and join our fan contests.

Liam Neeson Must Take Back His Life in “Unknown”

What if you knew, deep down, who you really were, but couldn’t prove it? And what if someone else - someone you didn’t know - claimed to be you, and everyone believed him?

That is the dilemma at the center of Warner Bros.' new suspense-thriller “Unknown.”

Who or what determines who we are? Is it our friends…our memories…where we come from…a piece of paper…? Where is the proof? Based on the novel by Didier van Cauwelaert, “Unknown” explores exactly that as Dr. Martin Harris, played by Liam Neeson, races through the cold streets of Berlin in order to take back his life, while dodging the men who are hot on his trail and trying to kill him. Though he has no idea why.

The star of “Unknown” was pulled into the story from the start. “For me, it’s always the script, and this was a real page-turner,” Neeson asserts. “My litmus test is this: if I can get to page 50 without stopping for a tea break, then it’s a very good sign. This was such good material that I had to read it all in one sitting.

Liam Neeson plays Dr. Martin Harris, a botanist, who arrives with his wife, Liz, at the Hotel Adlon in Berlin for a biotechnology summit. When Martin realizes that his briefcase didn’t make it into the taxi with them, he grabs another cab to rush back to the airport. But en route, they are in a terrible accident. The driver, Gina, bravely saves Martin’s life but then mysteriously disappears. After lying in a coma for four days, he awakens; with no identification, Martin struggles to remember who he is.

Once he remembers his identity, he urgently tries to locate his wife, assuming she must be frantic with worry,” Neeson relates. But when he finds Liz back at the hotel, she doesn’t know him, and worse, another man is claiming to be him - and Liz believes this “other” Martin.

It’s like reverse amnesia,” director Jaume Collet-Serra reveals. “It’s as if the world has amnesia about him—he absolutely knows who he is, but everyone else has forgotten him.”

The filmmakers all agreed that Neeson was the perfect actor for the role because he has such tremendous screen presence. “I’ve always admired Liam’s work,” Collet-Serra says, “and for a director, he is a generous actor that keeps on giving, on set and on screen. He can be very intense and very subtle at the same time.”

Both would be required; it was essential that the character draw the audience into his psyche, so they would be trying to decipher why all this is happening, right along with him.

The director continues, “One of my concerns was that the viewer has so little time to get to know Martin before everything goes awry. But with Liam, there’s an instant connection. You like him, you believe in him.”

We wanted somebody people would root for,” producer Joel Silver adds. “Liam has great charisma, and is also totally accessible, and those are exactly the traits we needed for Martin Harris.

To the audience, Martin Harris seems to have the perfect marriage and an interesting life,” Neeson explains, “but it’s all suddenly shattered in an instant. He is alone and not just abandoned, but rejected by everyone he thinks he knows. And his every impulse makes him more determined to find out the truth and, more importantly, prove he is who he says he is.

Neeson was attracted to the idea of exploring lost identity. “I totally locked in to what Martin was going through,” he says. “I was an amateur boxer as a kid, and I got my bell rung a few times. It’s always stayed with me, that memory of not having a memory, even for a short time. It was an interesting life experience to draw on for this role.”

Opening across the Philippines on Feb. 16, “Unknown” will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Slow Justice is No Justice in “Faster”

Columbia Pictures gathers a powerhouse cast for its new action-thriller “Faster” lead by Dwayne Johnson (“The Rundown,” “The Scorpion King”), Billy Bob Thornton (“Eagle Eye”) and newcomer Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Carla Gugino (“Watchmen”), Maggie Grace (“Taken”) and Moon Bloodgood (“Terminator Salvation”).

After 10 years in prison, Driver (Johnson) has a singular focus - to avenge the murder of his brother during the botched bank robbery that led to his imprisonment. Now a free man with a deadly to-do list in hand, he’s finally on his mission…but with two men on his trail - a veteran cop (Thornton) just days from retirement, and a young egocentric hitman (Jackson-Cohen) with a flair for the art of killing and a newfound worthy opponent. The hunter is also the hunted. It’s a do or die race to the list’s finish as the mystery surrounding his brother’s murder deepens, and new details emerge along the way hinting that Driver’s list may be incomplete.

It was a fateful day a few years ago when writer/producer Tony Gayton approached his brother, and "Faster" co-writer, Joe Gayton with the thread of an idea. “I remember imagining a guy in prison on the day of his release getting a speech from the warden then just breaking into a sprint out of the prison gates and going straight to kill someone,” recalls Tony Gayton. “I liked the idea of this introduction where you have no idea who this guy is. He turns out to be the hero out to get revenge for his brother’s murder but he could very well have turned out to be the bad guy.” On that day, the character that would come to be known simply as ‘Driver’ was born.

“(Driver) is like a shark - he has a clear mission,” notes Joe Gayton who also serves as Executive Producer on the film. “It was apparent at this early stage that his determination would provide for a true, high-octane adventure.” As the screenplay evolved, what emerged was not just an action film but also a character study and exploration into the minds of three men - the other two main characters known simply by the monikers ‘Cop’ and ‘Killer.’ But Driver’s mission was at the story’s core and finding the right actor to portray him would be the first target.

Director George Tillman, Jr. responded to the material as a throwback to action films of the 70s. “70s action films have cool heroes but those same heroes also have a dramatic essence; they are complicated characters. I think audiences today yearn for a more sophisticated action film where they can relate to the characters since people are by nature complicated.

Producer Bob Teitel had a similar reaction to the material’s nostalgic factor. “It felt like a movie you don’t really see these days - where the lead character has a presence that immediately commands the audience’s attention and they instantly follow him on his journey. It’s only along that journey that the audience learns more about the character.”

Opening soon across the Philippines, “Faster” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International. Visit for trailers, exclusive content and free downloads. Like us at and join our fan contests.

Come on, Na-na-na-na come on
Na-na-na, come on

Come on, Na-na-na-na

Feels so good being bad
There's no way I'm turning back
Now the pain is for pleasure, 'cause nothing can measure
Love is great, love is fine
Out the box, out of line
The affliction of the feeling leaves me wanting more.

'Cause I may be bad, but I'm perfectly good at it
Sex in the air, I don't care, I love the smell of it
Stickss and stones may break my bones,
But chains and whips excite me.

'Cause I may be bad, but I'm perfectly good at it
Sex in the air, I don't care, I love the smell of it
Stickss and stones may break my bones,
But chains and whips excite me.

Na-na-na come on, come on
Come on, I like it, like it
Come on, come on, come on
I like it, like it [Na-na-na] come on
Come on, I like it, like it
Come on, come on, come on
I like it, like it.

Love is great, love is fine
Out the box, out of line
The affliction of the feeling leaves me wanting more, oh-uhh.

Na-na-na come on, come on
Come on, I like it, like it
Come on, come on, come on
I like it, like it [Na-na-na] come on
Come on, I like it, like it
Come on, come on, come on
I like it, like it.

Oh, I love the feeling you bring to me
Oh, you turn me on
It's exactly what I've been yearning for
Give it to me strong
And meet me in my boudoir
Give my body some AHH, AHH, AHHHH,
I like it, like it

Na-na-na come on, come on
Come on, I like it, like it
Come on, come on, come on
I like it, like it [Na-na-na] come on
Come on, I like it, like it
Come on, come on, come on
I like it, like it.
