Aljur Abrenica is 'Machete'

Posted by JED on , under | comments (5)

Kapuso hunk actor and sought after leading man Aljur Abrenica breathes new life to the character of Machete in GMA-7's upcoming primetime series of the same title premiering this 2011.

With his chiseled body and fine acting ability, Aljur was the unanimous choice to reprise the titular character in the classic story about a wooden sculpture brought to life by the fortuitous works of a woman, or in this case, two women for the contemporary times. Even Cesar Montano, the first actor to ever play the role of Machete, publicly expressed his approval of the Network's decision to entrust the role to Aljur with whom he had the chance to work with in the recently concluded primetime show Ilumina.

In this version, Machete, an ancient Ifugao warrior, was transformed into a tree after being killed in battle. Decades after, this tree becomes the favorite subject of a beautiful sketcher who later sells her drawing to an equally gorgeous sculptress. The sculptress falls in love with the image that she eagerly decides to turn it into a wooden statue.

Playing the coveted roles of the two ladies who will compete for the heart of the handsome Machete are the equally gorgeous Kapuso actresses Ryza Cenon and Bela Padilla. Together, they will infuse an exciting and fresh twist to the Pablo S. Gomez classic for today's generation of televiewers to enjoy.

The figure of Machete to be used in the program will be sculpted by no less than National Artist and Father of Philippine Modern Sculpture, Napoleon Abeva, and his team of experts including his son Lawin.

See Machete come to life this January 2011 on GMA Telebabad.

Rayver Cruz Admits He’s Behind Cristine Reyes - Sarah Geronimo Fight

Rayver Cruz finally speaks and admitted that he is the reason behind the controversial rift involving sexy actress Cristine Reyes and Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo.

According to Rayver, he was the one who told Cristine about Sarah's controversial remarks “Pag mamagaling magsayaw habulin ng mga babaeng sexy” during ASAP XV dress rehearsals (read related article HERE).

Sa tingin ko, wala namang mali ‘dun and wala naman akong ginagawang masama,” the 21-year old dancer-actor confessed.

Rayver will have a one-on-one-no-holds-barred interview with Boy Abunda this Sunday, December 19, on 'The Buzz' where he reveals the real score between him and Cristine. If he and Sarah really had a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship in the past? If he really two-timed Sarah and Cristine?

Know the answers and more this Sunday on The Buzz, right after Your Song.

Is Valerie Concepcion Transferring To 'Willing Willie' of TV5?

Posted by JED on , under | comments (4)

Following rumors about the early demise of noontime show "Pilipinas Win na Win", Valerie Concepcion, one of its female co-hosts, is said to be planning to leave ABS-CBN and jump to TV5 to follow his Kuya Willie [Revillame].

Valerie has revealed that she is open to doing that as long as she’ll get to do what she wants to do.

In an interview during her launch as Calayan Surgicentre endorser, Valerie shared that her wish for the future is for her to have more hosting jobs.

More hosting jobs. Wish ko another hosting job,” she said.

Asked if she is going to join TV 5, the TV host answered: “Kung saan may trabaho! Huwag na tayo magpaka-plastic. Kung sa'n may trabaho, 'dun na tayo.”

She also hinted that she wants to experience hosting a prime time show. “Gusto ko ma-experience [ang] prime time hosting. I'm not closing my doors to any [network],” she said.

Valerie also joked around when asked for her message for Revillame. “Kuya, ngayon lang ako walang Christmas gift galing sayo. Ipaabot mo naman sa akin ang Christmas bonus! Echos,” she said.

Bayani Agbayani Releases His New Album Titled "Todo Bigay"

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Sa January, expect Bayani to hit the malls para sa show at album signing.

"At least, may panregalo na akong bagong music ko ngayong Pasko," ani Bayani. "Sobrang na-miss ko rin talaga ang recording! Sana suportahan nila itong bagong album ko."

Iya Villania, Bangs Garcia, and Kristel Moreno Add Spice to 'Kristine, Ang Ikalawang Libro'

Posted by JED on , under | comments (5)

The cold December air is no match to the heat that will be brought in by Iya Villania, Bangs Garcia, and Kristel Moreno, the three sexy ladies introduced in the second book of hit teleserye Martha Cecilia's Kristine.

The sizzling trio is ready to add spice to ABS-CBN's top-rating Primetime Bida with the rest of Kristine cast Zanjoe Marudo, Cristine Reyes, Rafael Rosell, JM De Guzman, and Rayver Cruz.

Iya plays Scarlet Saavedra, a strong woman who is very far from the typical Maria Clara. "[As] Atty. Saavedra, I am no weak woman...I live each day as [if it were] my last," she said.

The actress shared how nervous she was to take on a sensual role but she was relieved by the fact that her screen partner is fellow ASAP XV artist Rafael. "I've worked with him in ASAP [for] a dance number. And in that performance, I needed to trust him as we were doing lifts in the prod. It wasn't an easy lift." Despite what seems to be a challenging role, the actress is excited because this is a new acting experience altogether. "Basta appropriate sa role, I should be fine doing something a little bit more daring."

While Iya is slightly nervous, Bangs is excited and prepared for her role. The actress, after all, has had previous experience baring her skin on camera in programs like Palos and Magkano ang Iyong Dangal.

In the series, Bangs portrays the role of Diana Montero, a woman enshrouded in mystery. One of the few things we know of her is that she hails from a broken family. "Hindi niya nakukuha ang pagmamahal na gusto niya. She's lonely kaya she's working hard para mahalin siya ng ibang tao," Bangs said.

Meanwhile, Kristel's first day at work was quite a challenge, as she was required to engage in a kissing scene with JM De Guzman who plays Nathaniel. She, however, believes the sexy edge of the show lies in the story.

"Yung pagka-sexy ng Kristine eh hindi lang basta magpakita ng katawan o maghalikan. May magandang kuwento sa likod ng mga maiinit na eksenang ipinapalabas nila," she explained.

She added JM's gentleman ways helped her feel comfortable. "Noong first day, hindi kami nakapag-usap pero ramdam ko yung kabaitan niya. Yung isang eksena kasi namin, on-screen parang topless ako. In real life, naka-tube ako. Si JM, hindi tumitingin sa akin, nakayuko lang siya before the take. Titingin lang 'yun pag-nag-roll na ang camera," she recounted.

Kristel plays the character of Jasmin, a woman who would do anything for her family and would be willing to give up everything, especially for her siblings.

Apart from these three women, two new characters also join the series--Charlie (Joross Gamboa) and Rowena (Neri Naig) who have pivotal roles in the story.

After a tension-filled first encounter, what will happen once Nathaniel and Jasmin cross paths again? Will Scarlet be an instrument towards Jewel and Bernard's reunion? Will Marco finally tell Scarlet about his feelings? And what evil plan will Margarita (Irma Adlawan) set in place when Jewel (Cristine), sick with amnesia, returns to Paso de Blas?

Tune in to the romantic and heated episodes of the teleserye that brings life to your nights, Kristine, Ang Ikalawang Libro, after Imortal on ABS-CBN.

'Misteryo' Begins Airing Today on GMA-7

Posted by JED on , under | comments (2)

This Saturday, prepare for a spine-tingling afternoon as Misteryo makes the big move to GMA-7.

The top-rating show begins airing on the Kapuso Network this Saturday, 4:30 pm, with a look into the mysterious occurrences in Barangay 821 in Paco Manila. The year started off tragically for the residents of Bgy. 821. Hundreds of houses were razed by a fire and one person was reported dead. But from the ashes of what was left of Bgy. 821 rose so many unexplainable events and stories.

Ever since the fire, there have been several reported sightings of a dwende and the decapitated head of a woman. Some claim to have seen the spirit of the owner of the barangay chapel who is believed to still haunt the place. Could these be the imaginings and speculations of people who desperately want to believe in something out of the ordinary? Or are they for real?

To bring these mysteries to light, program host Ryan Eigenmann and several paranormal experts will investigate and stay in the areas that are reportedly haunted. Will they get a visit from the spirit that "guards" the chapel?

Find out in Misteryo this Saturday, 4:30 pm, after Startalk and before Wish ko Lang, only on GMA-7.

Fil-Am Hollywood Actress Nicole Anderson on Being a 'Nick Jonas' Girlfriend

Posted by JED on Thursday, December 16, 2010 , under | comments (0)

Nicole Anderson is famous for her portrayal of Macy, the love interest of Nick Jonas, in the Jonas Brothers TV show, “Jonas L.A.” on the Disney Channel.

Nicole said: “It was my first stable job so it was, ‘Wow, this is awesome, I’m gonna [sic] be able to do what I really love to do on a regular basis.’ And then I booked it with my best friend and the Jonas Brothers. It was a win-win-win all over the place. When we came back for the second season, I found out that Nick and I would be love interests on the show so I was, like, ‘That’s not a shabby job’ (laughs). He’s a really, really cool guy.”

Now that the show has concluded its run, the 20-year-old Filipino-American said she is aiming for more mature roles, but within limits.

Nicole joked: “I’m not going crazy and wanting to take my clothes off on HBO or anything like that (laughs). I wouldn’t want to do anything that I will be embarrassed to have my dad see (laughs).”

Her current projects include “Make It or Break It” on ABC Family. In it, she plays a champion gymnast, a familiar role.

When she was younger, Nicole was winning in national gymnastics competition before she had to retire due to injuries. Being an athlete taught the young star the value of discipline.

Nicole said it’s easy for young people in Hollywood to get into trouble like her fellow Disney star, Demi Lovato, who recently entered rehab after a reported emotional breakdown.

I think with Demi– she is a young girl, she’s a teenager. Every teenager goes through their angst phase, you know, where they wanna rebel, kinda go through teenage hormone issues. Unfortunately for her she has to do it in the spotlight,” she said.

Nicole said it’s the guidance of her family that has kept her afloat. Her mom, Anami Anderson, is a native of a small town in Negros Occidental, Philippines.

She joked about what her mother would do to her if she got out of control. “Oh, definitely it’s my Filipino mom. (laughs) She’ll chase me around with a wooden stick. (laughs) No.

Though born and raised in the United States, Anderson is proud of her roots. She has her love for Filipino food and even permanent body art to prove it.

My favorite’s halo-halo and I love sinigang and pancit. My mom makes me these vegetarian egg rolls. I also have a tattoo on my ribcage and one of the things on it says ‘Mahal kita.’” (I love you).

Nicole is also starring in the movie “Mean Girls 2″ coming out in February 2011.

Manny Pacquiao, Cristine Reyes, Venus Raj, Angel Locsin, Dra. Vicky Belo Top List of Credible Celebrity Endorsers 2010

Posted by JED on , under | comments (6)

Boxing Champ Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, Actress-TV host Kris Aquino, 2010 Miss Philippines-Universe Venus Raj and cosmetic surgeon Dra. Vicki Belo are among the most credible celebrity endorsers this year, a study conducted by a market research consulting firm showed.

The study done by Synergy Business Consultancy revealed that 67% of its respondents bought a product or availed of a service due to a celebrity endorser.

The respondents were comprised of 1,000 males and females, aged 15-60 years old, from all socio-economic classes in Metro Manila. The study was conducted from September to October 2010.

This year, Pacman continued to extend his influence not only to professional boxing but also to consumers. Same to Synergy's 2009 study, 47% of respondents believed that he is a credible endorser.

Following Pacman is Dra. Belo, whose credibility rose 7% this year.

"If you're in a controversy, it pays to be the aggrieved party. Such is the case with Vicki Belo and Kris Aquino. Much as a celebrity figured in a controversy, it seems that credibility to endorse may in fact be a good boost if he or she is considered the underdog. This is a very Filipino trait that we observe in our country," said Germaine Reyes, managing director of Synergy.

Kris made it to the top 10, with 15% of respondents believing the host as an endorser.

Telenovelas have proven to be a strong factor for building a credible endorser as Angel Locsin, Gretchen Barretto, Angel Aquino, Derek Ramsay, and Cristine Reyes captured people's attention this year.

However, the study also shows that not all celebrities can effectively sell all products and services.

In personal care products and services, for instance, only 31% of respondents believed that celebrities, socialites, or models make effective endorsers.

Common people who have experienced using the product hold more credibility to endorse the brand compared to celebrities, with 44% of respondents accounting to this.

Ultimately, products or services that are "recommended by professionals" and "clinically-proven or dermatologically-tested" prove most effective in endorsing personal care products and services.

"In the case of personal care, other credible tests, personalities, or professionals, or fora can have more convincing power. It is thus necessary to understand how well suited it is to use celebrity endorsers in the context of the given product category, the category development and how established the brand is in that category," Germaine concluded.

GMA Network Unlikely to Hit P3B Income Target

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

GMA Network Inc. is unlikely to meet its P3 billion net income target this year due to lower earnings in the third quarter and higher expenses.

"We’re not revising our target but we will not able to achieve it," Felipe L. Gozon GMA Chairman and CEO, said yesterday.

Gozon said although revenue would reach P12 billion for the whole year, a 26 percent drop in third quarter earnings would drag down income.

GMA’s third quarter income stood at P583 million, against last year’s P788 million, due to lower airtime revenues and absence of political ads.

He said earnings from radio and international channels have been growing but those of GMA 7 which account for 80 percent have suffered a decline.

Higher expenses came mostly in the form of the $4 million spending for the acquisition of Viz Ardome software from Vizrt/Ardendo, hardware from Hewlett Packard (HP), and other facilities and broadcast peripherals.

The upgrade would allow the network to migrate to a tape-less, file-based workflow for greater efficiency and environmental friendliness.

Kris Aquino Plans to Run for Governor in Tarlac in 2016

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Kris Aquino, the controversial youngest sister of President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, is joining politics after the term of her brother expires in 2016.

The Queen of All Media pronounced her plan to run for Governor of her home province, Tarlac, before thousands of her town mates Tuesday.

I feel naman na bilang isang Aquino, whatever political career I hope to have in the future, it has to start in Tarlac,” she said.

Kris, along with her “Dalaw” leading man Diether Ocampo and Pokwang, led the gift giving activity in depressed areas in the province. From Tarlac, they went to 8 barangays in Pasig also to distribute gifts.

She clarified that she is only running in 2016 after Noynoy’s term of office.

Kris said she initially hinted to her ABS-CBN bosses about her political plans in 2013, but was reminded that her contract obligations with the network will expire in 2015.

She said she wants to follow in the footsteps of Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos.

She said: “Hindi ko nakakalimutan ‘yong sinabi ng mom ko na if there is anybody in showbiz na I should be emulating its Ate Vi ‘yon. Kasi pagkatapos ng napakagandang karera niya sa industriya natin, nakapagbigay naman siya ng magandang serbisyo. Una sa Lipa (as Mayor) and then after sa Batangas.
