Charice Ranks 7th Among the Best Guest Stars of 'Glee'; Fil-Am Darren Criss Tops the List

Posted by JED on , under | comments (4)

Popular US celebrity website Entertainment Weekly (EW) ranked Filipina singing sensation Charice as the seventh “Best Guest Star” on the phenomenal Fox TV show “Glee.”

In the “'Glee': Ranking the Best Guest Stars” article, which counts down the top 15 appearances on the show since its first season, Charice ranked higher than some of music’s finest, such as Britney Spears (9th), Josh Groban (11th), Eve (13th) and Olivia Newton-John (15th).

Charice, who is said to appear in 10 episodes, plays Sunshine Corazon, a Filipina exchange student. She first appeared on the show’s second season pilot episode.

EW said the following about the 18-year old David Foster and Oprah prodigy:

The tiny powerhouse is perhaps the one age-appropriate rival who makes Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) nervous (which is why Dame Berry sent her to a crack house instead of the choir room). As exchange student Sunshine Corazon, she added another ballad to the New Directions repertoire with a powerful version of 'Listen' that was so impressive, it caused Vocal Adrenaline to snatch her up before her first McKinley practice.

“Glee” is already past eight episodes, but Charice’s much-anticipated next appearance remains a top secret. Even so, speculations spawned that the young diva might belt out the Celine Dion classic “Because You Loved Me” in a forthcoming episode.

Occupying the number one spot on EW’s list is another artist with Filipino blood, the newly signed up “Glee” cast member, Darren Criss.

The half-Filipino, half-Irish “Potter Musical” YouTube wonder was described as “the most anticipated guest star” on the show, playing an openly gay student from Dalton Academy, Blaine.

Although his role is being raved about - “a mentor and possible love interest for Kurt (Chris Colfer)" - EW cited, “his rendition of Katy Perry's ‘Teenage Dream’ - which is currently smashing sales records - would make anyone weak in the knees.”

Robin Padilla After 10 Failed Marriages: "Sobrang naniniwala kasi ako sa pag-ibig!"

Posted by JED on , under | comments (3)

Showbiznest just attended Robin Padilla's "Star Studio Plus: IDOL" Bookazine grand presscon at Via Mare Oyster Bar in Power Plant Mall, Rockwell.

Robin, at 41, is still oozing with charisma - one trait that made him a lady's man until now. The "Idol" of Philippine showbiz was at his good mood, greeted all the Kapamilya, Kapuso and Kapatid, and gamely answers all the questions thrown by invited press. He even raffled off one motorcycle for the press. Idol!

Here's the excerpts of his interview:

On Star Studio Plus IDOL Bookazine.

On being tagged as Idol: "Yung tawagin ka pong Idol ay talaga namang nakakakilabot. Nagpapasalamat po ako sa mga taong hanggang ngayon ay nagtitiwala pa din sa akin."

On his 15 serious relationships (10 of which ended in marriage and divorce) : "Sira ulo kasi ako pag inlove. Wala naman akong pinagsisisihan dun. Lahat naman sila minahal ko ng totoo. Sobra lang talaga akong naniniwala sa pag-ibig. Pero ngayon masasabi kong masayang masaya ako sa aking bagong pag-ibig."

On his major regret in life: "'Di naman pagkakamali pero yung pinagsisisihan ko talaga eh nung nag-droga ako. Ngayon naiisip ko na sana 'di ko ginawa yun."

On his latest India trip with wife Mariel Rodriguez: "Marami po kameng mga lugar na pinuntahan ngayon. Syempre mas mahal ko po ang ating bayang Pilipinas, pero napakaganda di po ng India."

On his relationship with Mariel: "Ako po kse ay napakaselosong tao.

On their plan to have a child: "Lahat naman po ng nag-aasawa eh gustong magkaanak. Pero suwerte nga ni Mariel instant mommy agad sya sa apat na bata."

On their church wedding: "Dapat nga po ngayong December na yun pero dahil nga po sa maraming pangayayari, 'di na umabot. So plano po naming gawin yung early next week. Baka po January."

On his daughters Queenie and Kylie: "Kasama po nila ako magmula nung dumating ako last November 20. Sinorpresa pa nila ako nung isang araw. Ngayon ang tanging gusto kong gawin eh makasama at mapasaya ko yung mga anak ko."

On Queenie and her rumored-boyfriend Ejay Falcon: "Nagugulat nga po ako nung nagsho-shooting kame ng pelikula.

On Willie Revillame and Mariel's rumored transfer to TV5's Willing Willie: "Wala po kameng tampuhan ni Willie. Lalake po kame at 'di naman bagay sa amin ang magtampuhan. Kung lilipat po si Mariel eh depende po sa kanya yan. Pero kung mangyayari man po 'yun eh dapat may basbas ng ABS-CBN."

On his stand about reproductive health and condom (he is currently endorsing trust condom): "Kasundo ko na po ang santo Papa sa pag-e-endorso ng condom. Heheheh.

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

Willie Revillame, former host of the defunct ABS-CBN show "Wowowee" speaks about the new case filed against him, TV5 and his production outfit WilProductions, Inc. by his former TV network ABS-CBN.

The Kapamilya network filed a P127 Million copyright infringement case before the Regional Trial Court of Makati on November 24 (see related story HERE).

In last night's episode of Willing Willie, his new show on TV5, Willie expressed his sadness and said he can't help but wonder why ABS-CBN keeps on filing law suits against him despite his willingness to reconcile with them.

Read below his full statement:

Ayaw kang pabalikin.'

"So, binibigyan ako ng isang araw na show, once a week."

Pero this time, lumaban na tayo.

"Kapag nahinto, magso-show kami diyan sa labas. Diyan tayo magsama-sama, kahit walang telebisyon!"

Meanwhile, on his facebook account, Atty. Ray C. Espino, TV5 President, publicly announced his stand on this new case filed by ABS-CBN against TV5 and Willie Revillame. He said, "THE BATTLE FOR WILLIE CONTINUES. NOW COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT RAW. HALLER!!! DIDN'T THE SUPREME COURT DECIDE WAY BACK IN 1999 THAT "THE FORMAT OF A SHOW IS NOT COPYRIGHTABLE" AND THAT "COPYRIGHT DOES NOT EXTENT TO THE GENERAL CONCEPT OR FORMAT" OF A SHOW. MORE IMPORTANT, WILLING WILLIE IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM WOWOWEE. IT'S INCREDIBLE THAT EVEN THE SEGMENT OF DJ COKI IS BEING QUESTIONED!!! HOW DESPERATE."

ABS-CBN Claims Willie Revillame Plagiarized 'Wowowee' in 'Willing Willie"; Files P127 Million Copyright Infringement Case

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

In yet another twist in the exchange of court cases between ABS-CBN and its former talent, Willie Revillame, the network filed a P127 Million copyright infringement case versus Revillame, his production outfit (WilProductions, Inc.) and ABC 5 (now known as TV5) before the Regional Trial Court of Makati on November 24.

In a 33-page complaint, ABS-CBN claimed that Revillame and his co-defendants unlawfully infringed on ABS-CBN’s copyright over its show, Wowowee, citing section 172.2(l) of the Intellectual Property Code (IP Code). ABS-CBN stated that as the producer of Wowowee, it is the legal owner of a valid and subsisting copyright over each and every one of the Wowowee episodes and is thus entitled to protection against those who steal its work.

ABS-CBN alleged that Revillame's new show Willing Willie on TV5 is so closely similar to Wowowee leaving no doubt that Revillame and the other defendants deliberately and intentionally imitated Wowowee to steal the goodwill that Wowowee has built over the past 5 years of airing in ABS-CBN.

ABS-CBN claimed that despite the new show and segment titles, Willing Willie is undeniably a copycat of Wowowee. Among the acts of plagiarism listed in the complaint are: (1) Willing Willie’s opening song and/or dance number led by its host; (2) Wowowee’s “BIGA-TEN” versus Willing Willie’s “Big Time Ka”; (3) Wowowee’s “Willie of Fortune” versus Willing Willie’s “Willtime Bigtime,” which contain portions where the contestants tell their personal stories and showcase their talents before they play a singing and/or trivia game; (4) the dancers/characters of Wowowee are also appearing in Willing Willie, most notable of whom is April “Congratulations” Gustilo; and (5) the set design, stage, studio viewers’ seats lay-out, lighting and camera angles of Willing Willie are also strikingly similar to Wowowee.

ABS-CBN alleged that ABC’s act of broadcasting of the infringing work Willing Willie has caused and continues to cause irreparable damage to ABS-CBN. WilProductions, Inc. meanwhile produces the show and is also liable, according to ABS-CBN. Also included as defendant is ABC President Ray Espinosa.

Aside from seeking an award of damages in the amount of more than P127 Million, ABS-CBN also seeks for the issuance of a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) and/or a Writ of Injunction to restrain Revillame, ABC and their other co-defendants from further producing and airing the infringing show Willing-Willie.

ABS-CBN claimed that this is a serious act of plagiarism, and observed that the theft of intellectual property has recently come to the fore in this country.

'StarStudio Plus: IDOL' Captures Robin Padilla’s One-of-a-Kind Journey

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

With a life that has fascinated millions from his breakthrough starrer Hindi Pahuhuli ng Buhay in 1989, Robin Padilla has cemented his status as one of the most indelible icons and recognizable idols of all time. At his peak, Robin was christened by the entertainment press as the “lalaking Nora Aunor” because of the kind of mania that accompanied his phenomenal rise. And in Robin’s case, it seems that the public never tires of learning more about the man.

ABS-CBN Publishing, Inc. addresses that clamor with the launch of the first ever issue of StarStudio Plus, a brand extension of the popular monthly magazine StarStudio. StarStudio Plus: IDOL is divided into three sections—Robin Padilla’s past, his present and the future. No less than a team of investigative journalists and a slew of talented lifestyle writers have joined forces and genius to come up with a descriptive, easy-to-digest yet compelling portrait of the star.

Each account is supported by beautiful, throbbing photographs captured by master lensman Jun de Leon, one of the star’s earliest mentors and a friend of long standing.

Learn about Robin’s growing up years with a gang of rowdy brothers, a nurturing mother and a father whom he openly worshipped. One vivid memory of Robin’s past was the assassination of his father, the late Governor Casimiro “Roy” Padilla Sr. in 1988 when the boy who would be known as local showbiz’s Bad Boy was nearing 19. “Ako po ay nakatayo sa labas ng bahay po,” goes Robin’s recollection. “Dumating si Junior, ‘yong pinsan ko. Sabi n’ya, ‘’Tol, ‘wag ka mabibigla, si Papa mo binaril, patay. Napaupo ako doon sa sidewalk, ang tagal-tagal kong nakaupo do’n. Parang hindi totoo.”

Unravel never-before-published anecdotes about Robin’s entry into the scene at a time when the biz was lorded over by the so-called matinee idols. The image of an action hero clad in leather jackets, cowboy’s hats, and berets, with greased hair and boots was soon being copied by teenage boys. Robin’s success surprised even he himself. “Hindi ko pinangarap ang stardom. Pang-pogi ‘yon. Akala ko, hanggang kontrabida lang ako sa pelikula at gagawa ng mga fight scenes.”

Never has Robin Padilla’s confessions been so revealing than the ones documented in the pages of StarStudio Plus: IDOL. The star remembers the reel-life persona spilling over into real life. “Ayoko nang makulong ulit,” he says of the prison years. “Kailangan alam mo ang batas. Ang batas po kasi natin, pang-sira ulo. Ang batas natin, may pinipili, kaya kapag hindi mo alam ang batas, kawawa ka.”

But what is a Robin Padilla tome without a section dedicated to the star’s colorful, checkered love life? And if your knowledge of it dates back to his romance and marriage to Leizel Sicangco, StarStudio Plus: IDOL offers exclusive information on the women who got involved with this showbiz Casanova other than the ones that reached the press. Other sections of this special edition bookazine explores other facets of Robin’s present and future: the road to Islam, his special father-and-son bonding moments with youngest child and only son Alih, the marriage to Mariel Rodriguez and how Robin hopes to be remembered. “Gusto kong maging aral ang buhay ko. Balang araw, kapag nabanggit ang pangalan ko, sana masabi nila, ‘Ito ang ginawa niya.’ Para kapag napagkuwentuhan ka naman, may aral na mapulot.”

Packed in 104 pages, StarStudio Plus: IDOL is a searing yet enjoyable account of one man’s continuing journey made even more palatable by photographs taken by Jun de Leon from India to Camarines Norte side by side milestone photos he has taken of Robin through the last twenty years and more snaps from the personal library of the actor.

This is simply Robin Padilla as you’ve never witnessed before.

Star Studio Plus: IDOL out now at all magazine stands, bookstores and selected supermarkets nationwide.

Charice's "Charice Home for Christmas" TV Special to Air on GMA-7; Taping Postponed Due to Charice's Stomach Flu

Posted by JED on , under | comments (2)

Charice is set to star on her own Philippine TV special titled "Charice Home For Christimas" but, yes, the TV special will be produced and air on GMA-7 and not ABS-CBN, the TV station who discovered Charice some years back via "Little Big Star".

This weekend, November 27, Charice is scheduled to come home and start taping for the show but due to her current situation, Charice, regretfully, can't go back home and might not pursue this project. According to her doctor, "She is suffering from dehydration caused by a recent stomach flu."

Here is GMA-7's Official statement regarding this concern:

GMA Network today received an official statement from Ms. Grace Mendoza, manager of Charice Pempengco on the postponement of the singing star's television performances and commitments in the Philippines.

"Filipino singing star Charice will not be returning to her homeland this weekend for several previously announced TV performances and appearances.

"The singer, according to her physician, is 'suffering from dehydration caused by a recent stomach flu.'

"'I want to apologize for disappointing my fans and supporters in the Philippines but I have been advised by my doctor to rest for the next couple of days,' commented Charice.

"GMA Network regrets not being able to do the planned Christmas special with Charice at this time but understands that her well being is first and foremost.

"The Network on the other hand is glad to announce to all her fans and followers that Charice has committed to do a TV Special with the Kapuso Network as soon as she is able to come home."

PHR Presents "Alyna" Extended Until January 2011

Posted by JED on Thursday, November 25, 2010 , under | comments (0)

Who would have thought actress Kaye Abad would emerge as a competent villain after many years of playing sweet and "pa-tweetums" roles?

Kaye has been the resident bad girl of hit afternoon drama Precious Hearts Romances Presents Alyna where she plays Shaina Magdayao's rival and tormentor.

This has led to the rumors that their stormy relationship is for real, Kaye being an ex-girlfriend of John Lloyd Cruz, Shaina's current beau.

Kaye clarified she is not at odds with Shaina, who has become a friend since they worked together in Rubi. "Kami naman dito sa set ng Alyna ay magkakabarkada din. So 'yung mga eksenang may sampalan, 'pag rehearsal tawanan yan. Lumalabas ang pagmamaldita, pag take na." she said.

Yet Kaye admitted she still feels nervous playing the antagonist as people may hate her for it. So far, she said people are able to separate the real Kaye from Lilet.

"So far wala pa naman akong nababasa na sobrang galit. 'Yung iba natutuwa dahil something new yung role dahil 'yun 'yung hindi ko masyado nagagawa. Yung dati kasi puro iyak, puro pa-sweet," she explained. Playing the role of Lilet is indeed a feat for Kaye. She must convince Dominic (Jason Abalos), the man she hurt, to love her again.

Another challenge for Kaye is showing her sexy side in Alyna, which has featured intimate yet artistically shot scenes before. Recently, she was seen in a two-piece bikini in an entire episode.

Shaina, meanwhile, continues to be compared not just to Kaye but actresses from the rival program. The young star chose to go the high road when asked to react to write-ups saying she is less sexy than her counterparts.

"Ang pagiging sexy ni Alyna eh hindi sa pagpapakita ng katawan. It's about how she carries herself, yung demeanor nya as a person, mga decision nya in life. That's what makes her sexy," she said.

The actress also maintained she is not threatened by comparisons. "I have nothing against anyone. I see it as healthy competition."

All these issues are coming out because of the success of Alyna, which continues to rule the national TV ratings according to global media specialist Kantar Media. With an interesting story and riveting performances from its cast, the show is in a league of its won in the afternoon timeslot.

Viewers are expected to stay tuned to Alyna these coming weeks as a huge typhoon is set to hit Rancho Del Carmen. Similarly, a "storm" will threaten the foundation of Alyna and Dominic's relationship. Saddened by the bond between Alyna and Dominic, Rex (Sid Lucero) falls ill and turns to Alyna for care. Alyna takes care of him in secret, prompting Rex to hope for reconciliation.

Find out how Dominic and Lilet will react to this in the afternoon drama of primetime caliber, Precious Hearts Romances Presents Alyna, from Monday to Friday, after Juanita Banana on ABS-CBN.

GLEE Season 2 'Furt' Recap

Posted by JED on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 , under | comments (0)

Someone’s getting married! Kurt’s dad and Finn’s mom announce they are getting married and Kurt is ecstatic. He immediately starts planning the wedding before it even registers in Finn’s brain what’s going on. I just love Burt. He references Lost and is just an all around cool guy. Finn sure is a confused boy. He’s losing his cool factor and the leadership he once held is dwindling. With Sam in the picture, the rest of the kids no longer look to Finn like they used to. Sam is busy being overly sweet and nice to Quinn while he proposes to her with a promise ring. I’m still holding out hope that he’s bi or something.

Burt isn’t the only one getting married. Sue is too! To herself. In a blue tracksuit wedding dress. It’s pretty fab. Sue’s mother (Carol Burnett) comes to town to visit her girls but they are less than thrilled to see her. The Nazi hunting mother that left them doesn’t inspire a warm welcome. Sue does however consent to sing a duet with her and they perform Ohio? Dang look at Carol go. She’s still got some amazing pipes. Sue happily marries herself and takes the time to tell her mother just what a bully and a bad mom she was for so many years. The good thing is, it made Sue stronger and that’s why we have the Sue that we have today.

So Kurt is still being bullied by Karofsky. Seeing how this is affecting him, the girls from glee who have boyfriends get together to try and encourage their men to stand up to Karofsky. Some of the guys are hesitant; Puck is on probation and Finn doesn’t want to get involved, but when the school refuses to do anything, Mike and Artie step up to the plate. It ends pretty ugly. Karofsky sends Mike flying into Artie who in turn sails right out of his chair. I gasped out loud and stared wide eyed as Sam jumped in to kick some ass. Even Puck looks shocked at what is going down during the locker room brawl.

Kurt, Finn and Burt start practicing for the wedding at Mckinley. New Directions will be the band and Burt and Finn need to work on their dance moves. While rehearsing, Burt observes Karofsky harassing Kurt and asks him what’s going on. After some prying, Kurt finally admits that Karofsky threatened to kill him. Burt flips out and runs into the hall to confront him. And by confront, I mean Burt uses his elbow to pin Karofsky to a wall. He goes to Sue who is still the principal and demands she do something. Sue is a victim of bullying herself and wastes no time in expelling Karofsky.

The wedding is an emotional happy affair. The kids sing Marry You down the aisle and Burt and Finn’s mom gives touching speeches about how happy they are that they and their children have a chance to be a happy family together. Finn, realizing he needs to step up his game in the step brother field, waits for Schue to finish murdering Michael Buble’s Home, and takes the stage. He apologizes to Kurt and embraces their brotherdom of Furt and sings Just The Way You Are (the Bruno Mars version) to him.

It’s all happiness and smiles while everyone is dancing together until school the next day. Kurt’s family learns that Karofsky is back in school after the school board determined there was no proof to his violence. It’s a great portrayal of how some schools don’t do enough to combat bullying. They don’t see it as a big enough deal, they don’t see it as their problem, and so horrible things can happen. Sue is so disgusted that she resigns as principal and goes back to her old job in protest. Kurt’s parents decide to help their son and give up their honeymoon so he can afford to transfer to Dalton Academy.

Kapuso Network Brings GMA Life TV To Canada, UK

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Broadcast giant GMA Network Inc. is eyeing a bigger share of the overseas Filipino workers (OFW) market with the recent launch of one of its international channels in two major territories abroad.

In a statement, the company also announced plans to bring GMA Life TV, the company’s second international channel, to two other American states with large concentrations of OFWs before the year ends.

Ably complementing the programming of GMA’s flagship international channel GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV features top-notch news and public affairs, entertainment and lifestyle programs catered for Pinoys all over the world,” the company said in a statement.

Two launches - both within the month’s first week - took place this November. On November 4, GMA Life TV was launched in Canada via MTS All-Stream. Meanwhile, chosen GMA Life TV programs began airing in the United Kingdom since November 7 via Pinoy Europe IPTV. This was made possible by Orbit Showtime Network in partnership with Infinity IPTV, the company said.

Just before the year ends, GMA Life TV will continue to spice up the lives of Filipinos in the United States as it penetrates New York and Illinois,” the statement read.

The company said GMA Life TV will soon air with the help of Time Warner in New York and Comcast in Chicago on December 1 and 16, respectively. It will also be launched in Houston, Texas, by early next year via Comcast.

GMA Life TV had about 126,000 subscribers at the end of the third quarter, the network said.

The number of subscribers began to substantially increase when the channel was launched during the early part of this year in other areas such as Florida (via Brighhouse Tampa), Texas (via En-Touch), Hong Kong (via PCCW) and Central California (via Comcast).

The increase of GMA Life TV subscribers can be attributed to the channel’s superior programming and the way it effectively responds to the under-served content needs of our carriers,” Vice President and GMA International Operations Head Joseph Francia said.

Carol Banawa Shares A Piec e Of Her Life Via Star Records' "My Music, My Life"

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

The soothing voice that has enthralled many hopeless romantics and music lovers is back. Carol Banawa, a certified platinum hitmaker, gives her listeners a treat after a hiatus from the music scene via her comeback album, “My Music, My Life” under recording giant, Star Records.

“Since nagvisit rin naman ako sa family ko dito, the idea of making an album ulit popped into my head.”

With a concept of highlighting some of Carol’s life’s precious moments, the album shares ten (10) meaningful cuts and two bonus tracks: “Baby, Now That I have You,” “Everyday,” “When You Say Nothing At All,” “If,” “I Honestly Love You,” “Sakaling Malimutan Ka,” “Love Story,” “The First Time I Loved Forever,” “When I Fall In Love,” “Mahal Kita Walang Iba.” The theme song of Star Cinema’s hit movie “Till My Heartaches End” and a cover of “When I Fall In Love” featuring Piolo Pascual are also included in the audio CD.

Pages of the album share personal quotes from Carol herself as she unravels the story behind each track. “The songs included in the track list are connected with my personal experiences kaya parang diary ko na rin siya.” Carol said. One of the quotes shared by Carol for the song “Mahal Kita Walang Iba,” is “When I met my husband, sabi ko sa sarili ko, eto na naman ako, iibig na naman, but LOVE is a risk. When we allow ourselves to become vulnerable, to take chances and to risk our pride, that is when we find great love.”

“My Music, My Life” is line produced by Black Bird Music, a sub-label of Star Records headed by Aiza Seguerra. Carol is the First artist produced by the said sub-label.

Carol took a break from the Philippine music scene last August 2003 to accompany her father for his medical treatment. However, her hits, some of which are “Tanging Yaman,” “Stay,” “Iingatan Ka,” “Bakit ‘Di Totohanin,” and “Panunumpa” still enjoy good airplay in different radio stations up until now. “My Music, My Life” is her first full album after a 7-year lull in the recording industry.

Now, Carol is with her 3-year old daughter, Chelsea, who like her mom, sings very well. During the recent jampacked show of Carol in Vivere Hotel, where the mother and daughter are staying, Carol and Chelsea sung Telephone in acapella.

Hear her golden voice once again. Grab your own copy of Carol Banawa’s “My Music, My Life” and be part of her inspiring story as she shares her gift of music anew, produced by Star Records and Black Bird Music. For the digital formats of the album, log on to www.starredords.ph.

Final Four of "Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Showdown" Revealed

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

The race to become the winner of the biggest reality show in the country has come down to four: Aubrey Miles, Akihiro Sato, Ervic Vijandre and Solenn Heusaff.

Among the intriguing, exciting and sometimes exasperating mix of 18 celebrity castaways who have braved harsh living conditions and nature's deadliest predators, and faced their fears, the Final Four - Aubrey, Aki, Ervic and Solenn - made it to the coveted top spot that puts them within striking distance of winning it all: the P3 million tax-free prize and the bragging rights to being the first celebrity sole survivor.

Who has what it takes to outwit, outplay, outlast, and outshine on primetime?

In the toughest Survivor Philippines edition yet, Aubrey Miles proved to be more than up to the challenge. The sexy actress and hot mama turned out to be "Ang Pasimuno" of the tribe, something she downplays by saying that each castaway has always arrived at his or her own decision. Some have taken to calling her a "villain," while others see her as the brilliant strategist that made this season even more exciting, using her beauty and brains to stay in the game. Whatever else she may be called, Aubrey is certainly one of this season's gems - the castaway with a sweet exterior and a tough attitude that made her a force to reckon with. Will these be enough to help her walk away with the prize?

Akihiro Sato, the Brapanese hunk with a very Pinoy heart. He was no doubt one of the hottest celebs in the country even before he joined Survivor. And as he turned out to be the camp's "Mr. Nice Guy" - the hottie whose smile never wavered even as life in the island became unbearable, the one who quietly toiled and remained one of the physically strongest and most determined among the castaways--he gained even more fans. But the last tribal council did not have an ending that is fit for a "Mr. Nice Guy." Akihiro voted out an unsuspecting Elma Muros, something he deeply regretted afterwards. Could this affect his chances of winning?

Model, socialite, artist, entrepreneur - Solenn Heusaff is all that and, as her awesome run at Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Showdown shows, more. Solenn, "Ang Diwata ng Isla," was a smart player - she knew how to blend in, establish herself as a loyal team player, and was strong and determined enough to stay in the running even during the toughest challenges. Like Aubrey, she is beauty and brains; but unlike Aubrey, she seems to have less "enemies" among the jury. Will this ultimately spell the difference for Solenn?

Because of his hard court stint and his wily moves in Survivor, Ervic Vijandre has been tagged the "Power Player." His strategies and his rock-solid alliance helped him defy the odds and remain in the game. But has he gone too far by supposedly breaking a promise he made to Akihiro during the last immunity challenge? Will his moves steer him to victory or bring him crashing down to the ground?

More heated exchanges, raw emotions, dizzying twists and a shocker of a finale that will determine who will win it all are up ahead as the biggest edition of Survivor Philippines, hosted by Richard Gutierrez, races to its explosive finale.

Who will become the first ever Celebrity Sole Survivor? Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Showdown airs from Monday to Friday, after 24 Oras, on GMA-7.

YES! Magazine December 2010 Issue Ranks The Top 10 Scene Stealers for 2010 and The Hottest Controversies of The Year

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

YES! Magazine has always been expected to deliver the most reliable insider information on the most controversial of local showbiz stories - and in its December issue, it does just that!

First, "The Top 10 Scene Stealers of 2010". The YES! team gathers the most explosive controversies on the entertainment scene—and feels sure enough about its information - to rank them according to magnitude and intensity.

In his introduction to The YES! List, which covers no less than 33 pages, contributing editor Andrew Paredes writes: "...we bring you the latest word on the biggest issues to hit showbiz over the last 12 months, a combination of what the mainstream media have reported and what our own investigations have unearthed."

"The Top 10 Scene Stealers list is such a sweep of the highs and lows, the darkness and brightness of the world of celebrity," YES! editor-in-chief Jo-Ann Maglipon adds in her editor's note, "that it leaves us rushing, stunned at times, and nearly spent. But we witnessed it all..."

And having been witness to the people and events that held the public riveted in 2010, the YES! team went on to tell it as it is - with the end goal of making sense of it all (nearly impossible as that may get).

The Top 5:

The Fall and Rise of Willie Revillame
Jinkee Knocks Out Krista, Wins Back The Pambansang Kamao
Kris & James Call It Quits
Claudine, Angelica, Gretchen: Sex, Lies & Sisterhood
John Lloyd & Shaina Face A Most Malicious Rumor

The Next 5:

Kim & Gerald: The Breakdown Of A Love Team
Robin & Mariel Got Married...Or Did They?
Marian & Bela Go To The Bathroom
PNoy & Shalani Break Up
Charice Lands 'Glee,' Gets Botoxed

Second to the most interesting features on this issue is "James Yap Speaks". It features an exclusive interview with James Yap, a man known to be so private, he can only be heard speaking a few precious sentences when ambushed by the press.

Yet the soon-to-be-ex-husband of "The Queen of All Media" Kris Aquino and the PBA's most bankable point guard, chooses to speak at length with YES!

Jo-Ann admits in her editor's notes: "James Yap does not like the press probing his insides, and tolerates only questions about basketball, which makes him one very difficult celebrity to interview."

YES! must've done something right, in any case, because James actually spends four hours with Jo-Ann and associate editor Anna Pingol.

The hours had its restrictions, of course. His lawyer, Lorna Kapunan, wasn't keen on James talking to media at all at this time, and his manager, Dondon Monteverde, was present during the interview. (Lucky break that Dondon, whose family owns Regal Entertainment, Inc., is such a no-fuss guy and shows no wariness of the press at all!)

So the evening went well, with James getting more casual and more voluble as the night wore on.

He talked about his childhood in Escalante City, Negros Occidental, his family and his relationship with them, the people who were there for him in the years he was an unknown, and how he spends his time now that he's fast being thought of again as "single" and "free."

Indeed, how?

"Bawal nga akong gumimik, 'no?," James tells us. "Baka makita ako, ma-TV na naman. E, paano kung kasama 'yong sister ko? Matangkad 'yong sister ko, mamaya, makita ako sa mall, sabihin may kasama akong chicks. Kaya ingat na lang din muna."

But it was when he talked basketball that he was obviously most loose and comfortable.

He spoke about the growing-up years spent in provincial school dorms, away from Escalante and away from family, living alone, austerely, following the strict discipline and routine set by school administrators - all in his march to becoming a player good enough for the big city and the big league.

While Kris and James seem determined to remain civilized for the sake of their only son, Baby James, the PBA star says that the three-year-old is already asking why his daddy doesn't come home every day.

"'Yon ang pinakamahirap sagutin," he says, "Hindi ko pa masagot. Bata pa, e. Siguro one more year, ipapaliwanag ko na sa kanya."

As for Josh, the boy James treated as his own in the five years he spent with Kris, he says: "Mabait si Josh, grabe. Malambing na bata. Si Baby James pa nga ang nangungulit sa kanya."

The 12-page exclusive story on James also reveals James's love for videoke (a favorite song is "Be My Lady"), picks up on his responses to rumors linking him to Isabel Oli and Grace Lee, and features childhood photos straight from the Yaps' family album, along with photos of James and Kris in happier times.

Thirdly, "Arnel Pineda: This Man's Journey". The Journey frontman opens up to YES! about his life and times, thus providing readers with the touching - even heartbreaking - story of how he rose to fame.

The internationally known Pinoy artist also welcomes readers to his first home ever, a dwelling that is as much a product of sweat, tears, and love of music as it is a product of a marriage strengthened by the hard years that came before.

Next is the "Vic & Pia" separation issue. Meantime, the YES! Spotlight turns on Vic Sotto and Pia Guanio's relationship, and asks the question everyone still wants answered: Is It Over?

Another interesting feature is titled "Pokwang's Surprise" where YES!'s Snaps section brings out the happy pictures of Pokwang's birthday party - a "children's party" organized by good friends Kris Aquino, Mariel Rodriguez, and still others who wanted the comedienne to experience the kind of party she never had in a childhood marked by poverty.

Lastly, is the magazine's features on the "8 MMFF Movie Entries" The YES! Guide is there to spread out the full menu of this December's Metro Manila Film Festival!

Read more about the reclusive James Yap and the triumphant Arnel Pineda, plus look back at this year's scene stealers. Grab your copy of the YES! December issue.

Available in newsstands, bookstores, and supermarkets nationwide. A digital edition of YES! is also available for international subscribers.

Sharon Cuneta Speaks: Why She is Mad at Aga Muhlach?

The Ai-Ai delas Alas’ “Akin ang Tronong ‘To” concert at the Araneta Coliseum last Friday night was supposed to be a happy event. The audience was there to enjoy, have a relaxing night of songs and fun and laughter...but not after Sharon Cuneta showed on the stage to perform.

As a tradition in a concert like that with star-friends present to give the top-biller moral support, Ai-Ai acknowledged the presence of, among others, Gov. Vilma Santos, Eugene Domingo, ABS-CBN executives led by president Charo Santos-Concio, and Aga Muhlach and his wife Charlene Gonzalez.

And as part of her comedic performance, Ai-Ai did a small talk with Sharon.

This was how that small talk went more or less:

Ai-Ai: Andito si Aga Muhlach. (Spotlight searched for Aga)

Sharon (without any expression): Sino ‘yon?

Ai-Ai (Pointing to Aga): Hayun s’ya, o. Si Aga Muhlach. Di ba isa s’ya sa naging leading men mo, katulad nina Gabby Concepcion, Robin Padilla, Christopher de Leon at Richard Gomez?

Sharon (still without any expression, without looking where Aga and Charlene were seated): Sino nga ’yon?

Ai-Ai: Siguro si Richard ang favorite leading man mo, ano?

Sharon (sidetracking the question): Gagawa kami ng pelikula ni Gabby.

Ai-Ai (Insisting, presumably clueless): Eh, kayo ni Aga?”

Sharon (still without any expression): Alam mo, nagdi-delete na ako ng mga friends.

When asked if she could sing Kung Ako Na Lang Sana, theme song of Sharon’s Star Cinema movie (same title) with Aga, Sharon approached Homer Flores, the musical director, and announced that Homer didn’t have the “arrangement.” Was it a not-so-polite way of saying no?

The way Sharon's face looks like, she was obviously not joking or taking Aga for a ride. The tension immediately filled the Big Dome, and it's quite obvious that there must be something wrong between Sharon and Aga. What has Sharon got against Aga? Is there a bad-blood between the two? Was Sharon getting back at Aga whom she must have suspected of having “rejected” her for a reteam-up movie?

And yes, being a gentleman that he is, Aga (and Charlene) didn't walk out.

The Megastar is prompt to clarify things and in the process make a clean breast of everything.

Yes, she admitted that she does have a little “sama ng loob” (or “tampong kaibigan”) against Aga and it’s because of more than just the abortive movie project that just might land on the lap of Lea Salonga as her and Aga’s second team-up after Sana Maulit Muli.

I felt that Aga has been taking me for granted,” said Sharon on the brink of tears. “He wouldn’t even say if he wanted to still do the movie or not, he kept only on saying, ‘Okay, okay!’ Look, at Star Cinema the only two leading men left na bagay sa akin are Aga and Gabby (Concepcion) dahil si Richard (Gomez) ay nasa ibang company na. If my weight is the problem, at pareho naman kami ni Aga na mataba, I could work double time to lose weight especially since love story siguro ang gagawin namin. Yung movie namin ni Gabby is horror, not a love story, so Malou (Santos, Star Cinema supervising producer) told me na okey lang na mataba ako. Pero if I would do a movie with Aga, magpapapayat talaga ako dahil alangan naman na mukha kaming mag-ina. Why can’t he tell me straight kung ayaw niya, di ba?

Of course, Sharon said that she felt bad when she learned that Aga has agreed to do a movie with Lea.

To make a long story short,” Sharon added, “matagal na akong na-i-insulto. I kept things to myself. We’re supposed to be friends. Bakit hindi niya sabihin sa akin?

There are other reasons.

Sharon said that when her eponymous ABS-CBN show was closing, her staff invited Aga (“Since he’s one of my friends in the business – ilan lang naman silang talagang close sa akin”) to be among those who would say something on videotape as a form of bidding the show farewell. “He declined,” said Sharon. “That would have meant so much to me dahil masakit ‘yung mawawala ang show mo, di ba?

And that Friday night, Sharon said it hurt her even more that Aga (“Kasama pa si Charlene”) would take time out to be at the Big Dome when he totally ignored Sharon’s concert last August in the same venue. “So I really felt bad,” explained Sharon. “Feeling ko, ‘Wow, nakaka-inggit naman si Ai-Ai dahil present silang dalawa ni Charlene.’ Ang dami kong pinagdadaanan noon and the presence of my friends in the audience would have made me feel better. When I called to invite him, he didn’t commit himself; all he said was, ‘Basta galingan mo.’ I said, ‘Pero pupunta kayo.’ He repeated, ‘Basta, galingan mo’.”

So when she snubbed Aga that night, Sharon said that she meant it as a joke although the audience mistook it for something serious.

Joke talaga ‘yon between him sana and me. Wala naman akong balak tirahin siya. Isip ko, nagkakaintindihan kaming dalawa. In fact, nagbiruan pa nga kami ni Ai-Ai after that.”

About Kung Ako Na Lang Sana, theme song of her and Aga’s Star Cinema movie of the same title.

It was Malou who requested for that song. But Homer (Flores, the musical director) and the guitarist didn’t have the arrangement so I sang another song.”

Doesn’t Sharon think that she owes maybe not Aga but the audience an apology for a joke that was misunderstood and therefore taken seriously?

I’m really sorry for that.

After all is said and done, does she still consider Aga a friend?

Oo naman,” said Sharon. “First thing this morning, I texted him a message when I realized that I must have hurt him.”

Moral of the story?

Never let ill feelings get the better of you, especially not in public. The audience should not to be dragged into whatever bad blood there is between whatever stars. That matter must be sorted out and settled somewhere else, not in public, and just between the two stars involved.

Jake Cuenca Clears "Sapakan Issue" with Jason Abalos

Jake Cuenca admitted in a statement sent to “The Buzz” last Sunday that he and fellow actor Jason Abalos were involved in a heated argument Saturday night, November 20, in Davao.

He denied, however, that they got into a fistfight.

Jake made the admission to dispute circulating text messages about the supposed brawl involving him and Jason and to dismiss the speculations that the feud could be connected to actress Melissa Ricks who are both romantically linked to the two Kapamilya actors.

According to the statement read on-air by “The Buzz” host Boy Abunda, Jake and Jason began to raise their voices at each other while discussing about a touchy subject.

He clarified though that the argument never turned violent.

I would like to clarify that no one was harmed. Wala pong nagsapakan.

He added, “Everything is better now. Nagkaayos na po kami ni Jason as early as last night. We patched things up already and we talked again this morning.

He also apologized to Jason for being “confrontational last night. And I acknowledged I was wrong and I am taking full responsibility.

He also thanked fellow Kapamilya actor Coco Martin for convincing them to fix things up.

Iya Villania Signs With ABS-CBN Anew

"It feels so good, it’s so nice to know… I’m just so very grateful that ABS-CBN still wants me to stay despite their large pool of such talented artists. It’s just so nice to know that despite that, they can still use din pala an Iya,” Iya Villania revealed during her recent contract signing with ABS-CBN last November 18, just a week after she bid goodbye to fellow co-hosts on ASAP XV.

Iya’s previous contract with the TV network had expired and she supposedly had an offer to sign up with the rival network. “It was bit of a shock, medyo unbelievable kasi I’ve been with the station for six years and I knew it would take a lot of getting used to, but I was open to trying to get new things,” recalled Iya when asked how she felt about the idea of leaving the Kapamilya network. “I always try to be optimistic [and] look at the brighter side of things.”

Iya went on to say that she and boyfriend Drew Arellano, who is with the rival network, got to talking about her possible network switch to the point of discussing possible projects together. “You know the thought of transferring and working on the same network? It got the both of us really excited. It’s been six years since we last worked together under the same network,” she shared.

But this did not happen because Iya was then offered a new ABS-CBN contract. “There was a turn of events. He still thought of it as something that worked to my advantage. If it’s for the better, for me, dun na rin siya masaya. He would want the best for me.”

Iya shared that her contract is valid for three years and means she will retain her current shows: MYX, Us Girls, and ASAP. Aside from that, Iya said that her future projects include a soap opera, a reality show, and a show that will be under news and public affairs.

In news reports and court records, there are only 57 victims of “Maguindanao Massacre,” one of the most brutal killings in recent history. In truth, there are 58. One man is still missing.

His name is Bebot Momay, journalist number 32 and victim number 58. His daughter Reynafe was the first civilian on the massacre site carved into the hillside of Ampatuan town. They found his jacket, identified his dentures, and followed his trail from Isulan to Buluan. But his body has not been found since he disappeared on November 23 last year.

On the third installment of its “Truths” documentary series, ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel delivers a haunting piece on Reynafe’s search for her father this Monday (Nov 22) at 6pm.

The documentary, entitled “58,” gives a poignant view of the massacre one year after, how Toto Mangudadatu has not stepped on the grave site since the day he was told his wife’s body had been found raped and brutalized, and why Bebe Decena leaves lit Marlboro Reds on the grave of his son Bogs, “so he can still smoke.” It also tells the story of Jude Reblando, who carried his father’s broken body down the hill to his mother.

They talk about the demon-kings of Maguindanao, and their armies. They talk about waiting. They talk about their dead. “58″ is about the victims, the dead and the living, the families that now stand before 57 graves marked November 23, 2009.

Directed by filmmaker Kiri Dalena, written by Storyline’s Patricia Evangelista, and with cinematography by acclaimed photojournalist Luis Liwanag, “58” was produced in partnership with USAID, The Asia Foundation and the Embassy of Canada, with video shot exclusively with Canon EOS 5D Mark II.

The night after the airing of “58,” ANC then presents “Crying for Justice – The Maguindanao Massacre Media Forum,” anchored by veteran broadcast journalist Cheche Lazaro. Find out when the victims will get justice, what the government is doing wrong and right, and what can be done in the future to prevent people killing with impunity from guest panelists and resource persons on Tuesday (Nov 23), at 6pm.

Catch the premiere of “58” on ANC SkyCable channel 27 on Monday, November 22, 6pm with replays at 10:30pm on the same day, and on November 23 at 7am, November 27 at 2pm, and November 28 at 9:30am.
