Posted by JED on , under | comments (3)

It's confirmed! Shalani Soledad is Willie Revillame's co-host on TV5's "Willing Willie" starting this Monday, November 8.

The 30-year-old Valenzuela City Councilor closed the deal with TV5 Executive last night, November 5 but it's not certain if she's on contract already or on a trial period.

But before she hits the boob tube on Monday, her mom, Evelyn Soledad, already broke her silence in an interview with TV5's Paparazzi about the PNoy and Shalani's split-up. Mrs. Soledad revealed a mouthful in "Paparazzi," where she said that her advice to Shalani is, "Kahit magsasaka ang mapangasawa ng anak ko basta ba mahalin siya nang tunay at totoo." The interview will be aired tomorrow afternoon.

President Noynoy Aquino and Shalani reportedly broke-up on the night of September 28 at Alfredo's restaurant in Tomas Morato, Quezon City, where the two also first met. There was no third party nor a fight involved in the break-up. Reports have it that PNoy just lost his interest on Shalani.

6th Cinema One Originals Features Seven Indie Films

Posted by JED on Thursday, November 4, 2010 , under | comments (1)

Seven unpredictable stories from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will be presented in an annual event that aims to showcase out-of-the-box storytelling.

For the 6th edition of the Cinema One Originals film fest, these films will be screened from November 10-16 at the Shangri-La Mall in Mandaluyong City.

The finalists chosen from 100 submitted entries are: the Cebuano film Ang Damgo ni Eleuteria Kirchbaum by Remton Siega Zuasola; the social satire Astro Mayabang by JP Laxamana; the melodrama Third World Happy by EJ Salcedo; the horror-drama Dagim by Joaquin Valdes...

The Western-style action film Ishmael by Richard Somes; the true-to-life story of a Tausug boy in Tsardyer by Sigfreid Barros-Sanchez; and the family drama Layang Bilanggo by Michael Angelo Dagnalan.

This year's festival will also pay tribute to two filmmakers who are considered pillars in Philippine cinema: Celso Ad. Castillo and Lav Diaz.

Last year's recipient of the Cinema One Original Tribute award was director Danny Zialcita.

The awards night of Cinema One Originals will take place on November 14 at the Dolphy Theater, ABS-CBN compound, in Quezon City.

According to Cinema One Originals director for programming Ronald Arguelles, the next batch will feature ten finalists that will be given a grant of P1 million each.

Aspiring filmmakers have until January 14, 2011 to submit their screenplays. By March 2011, the finalists for the 7th edition of the Cinema One Originals filmfest will be revealed to the public.

During the October 26 press conference of Cinema One held at the ABS-CBN compound, many of the mainstream stars appearing in the film fest admitted that being part of these independently produced films give them an avenue to express themselves artistically.

Mark Gil pointed out exactly what this all means for artists: "Indie filmmaking brings a different level of freedom that artists like us hunger for. You give your heart and soul to your roles."

The veteran actor revealed that he and Ronnie Lazaro wrote most of the dialogue used in the indie film Ishmael. Mark is cast as a cult leader who sexually molests his own daughter Agnes (portrayed by Ria Garcia).

For his part, Ronnie did some action sequences for his roles as Ishmael, an ex-convict who resorts to murder in order to protect Agnes.

He told in an interview, "I kill people like flies. Ishmael's hands were broken so he tied two bolos to his hands to serve as weapons. Tatlong balde ng dugo ang nagamit sa pelikulang ito!"

Sam Milby also considers working on indie films a way of honing his craft.

He also said it for all of them: "Through indie films, you get to act out of the box. It's important to do indie films to help you grow as an actor."

The matinee idol said of his role as a Fil-Am painter in Third World Happy: "My character is a lost soul who is a truly gifted artist. Imagine he lost his parents at the time he got his biggest accomplishment.

"That gives him a painful irony. I'd like to show onscreen how I could fill that void Wesley has."

The very talented Dimples Romana, for her part, vividly described the hardships that she and fellow cast members experienced while shooting Tsardyer in a forest located in Boso Boso, near Bulacan.

"Pati pantal ko authentic rin kasi nakatali kaming tatlo. Pag umiihi kami, malong na lang [ang pantakip].

"Ayoko nga masyado pag-usapan ang rape scene na ginawa namin kasi medyo touchy ang eksena."

Dimples's character is named Leslie and is a TV reporter kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf, along with two cameramen, portrayed by Mon Confiado and Bombi Plata.

She befriends the 10-year-old boy Shihab, portrayed by Martin delos Santos, who is tasked to charge the mobile phones used by the Abu Sayyaf to negotiate with the government while holding the media people they kidnapped.

Dimples praised Martin for being very keen about instructions and for being willing to run repeatedly across the forest without slippers for his role.

Tsardyer is loosely based on the kidnapping incident of Ces Drilon and two ABS-CBN cameramen in June 2008.

According to director Sigfreid Barros Sanchez, Ces knows about this film. He said the ABS-CBN senior correspondent even gave him contact details of the generals based in Sulu.

When Direk Sigfreid went to Sulu, in the area where the journalists were kidnapped, he recalled, "Kaharap na namin ang Abu Sayyaf pero hindi namin alam! Hindi nila kami ginalaw kasi Ramadan noon."

John "Sweet" Lapus took the time to attend the presscon to show support for the indie film Astro Mayabang, where he is cast as Mama Suk.

When asked why he agreed to accept this project despite its low budget, the Showbiz Central host explained, "Gusto ko ang Cinema One para maiba naman. Ang fresh ng ideas at ang bago ng concept."

He then quipped, "Gusto ko rin makapagtrabaho with new directors para pag sumikat sila, may utang na loob sila sa akin!"

Most of the dialogue in Astro Mayabang is in Kapampangan, which is why Direk Jason Paul conducted auditions in Metro Manila and Pampanga just to look for the lead character.

He initially had doubts about casting Arron Villaflor because of his soft-spoken and gentle disposition, but the young star proved he was up to the challenge of portraying a braggart.

Arron also had no qualms about shooting a scene wherein he wears nothing but his underwear.

The films competing in the 6th edition of Cinema One Originals filmfest are as follows:

1. Ang Damgo ni Eleuteria Kirchbaum by Remton Siega Zuasola is a novelty comedy about an ambitious provincial lass nicknamed Terya.

The film's title, which is in Cebuano, means "The Dreams of Eleuteria Kirchbaum."

Shot in Olango island near Cebu, the film revolves around a girl who becomes a mail-order bride to raise her family from poverty.

What's interesting about the film is that it was shot in one whole take that lasted one hour and thirty minutes.

2. Third World Happy of writer-director EJ Salcedo is a melodrama about a "balikbayan" artist (Sam Milby) who has not moved on from the tragic death of both his parents.

His perspective in life changes when he comes home to attend a funeral and reunites with his friends and girlfriend (Jodi Sta. Maria).

3. Astro Mayabang of director Jason Paul Laxamana is a social satire about a financially, socially, intellectually, and sexually frustrated boy (Arron Villaflor).

He likes to boast about nationalism and Pinoy pride, but ends up humiliated because of his misguided and aggressive ways.

Arron's onscreen partner is Megan Young. Marco Morales is cast as Arron's rival, while former Pinoy Big Brother Double Up housemate Hermes Bautista makes his big screen debut through this film.

4. Dagim is about two farm brothers whose search for their lost father leads them to a company of strange mountain inhabitants.

According to Direk Joaquin Valdes (who co-wrote this with J. Eliseo Sandico), the film's title is the Tagalog word for a nimbus cloud.

He says his film offers an alternate world where the tribe, led by Marc Abaya's character, has its own language and rituals.

The brothers are portrayed by newbie actors Martin del Rosario and Samuel Quintana.

5. Ishmael by Richard Somes is about an ex-convict who is ostracized by his neighborhood.

Little does he know that this neighborhood he once knew is set to reawaken his dark past.

Direk Richard helmed the entry Yanggaw, which won six trophies in the 2008 Cinema One Originals film fest.

6. Tsardyer by writer-director Sigfreid Barros-Sanchez is based on a true-to-life story of a Tausug boy who is torn between his loyalty to his Tausug brothers and his concern for the TV journalist (Dimples Romana).

When Shihab (Martin delos Reyes) hears what the abductors plan to do to their prisoners, he races not only to save them but to save war from erupting once again in the jungles of Jolo, Sulu.

7. Layang Bilanggo is a family drama about a fugitive on the run (Pen Medina) who yearns for the love of a daughter he abandoned several years ago.

The convicted assassin disguises himself in an attempt to become close to his daughter (Miriam Quiambao).

This film also stars Jaime Fabregas, Will Devaughn and Neil Ryan Sese.

To date, Cinema One has produced 37 entries through its annual project.

Entries such as Huling Balyan ng Buhi, Rome & Juliet, Confessional, Tambolista, and Imburnal have been honored in film festivals worldwide.

These films are produced and owned by Cinema One cable channel and Creative Programs Inc, a subsidiary of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation.

An article posted on her fan site on Tuesday announced the 18-year-old international singing sensation's victory. The efforts of the so-called “Charice Internet Army” had paid off after the Filipino singer got the highest number of votes in the Icon of Tomorrow category.

She defeated teen stars Bella Thorne, Bridgit Mendler, Frankie Jonas and Greyson Chance from the US and Australian Cody Simpson.

When all the stars collide, in this universe inside.
The big big bang (3x)

Some people like to talk. but i'm into doing,
What i feel like doing, when i'm inspired.
So, if we take a walk down, the beach tonight,
I bet that we could light up the sky.

The big big bang, the reason i'm alive,
When all the stars collide, in this universe inside.

The big big bang (3x)

Take it from me, i don't wanna be, mummified,
Sometimes i feel so isolated,
I wanna die. and now take it from you, if you got it.
Every time, so baby,
Bring your body here, next to mine.
Next to mine!
I don't wanna dream!
I just wanna live!
So baby, lets not miss this thing!

The big big bang, the reason i'm alive,
When all the stars collide, in this universe inside.
The big big bang (3x)

Hit me, big big big bang
Oh, baby (3x)

Korina Sanchez, Noli de Castro Return To Join Ted Failon in "TV Patrol"

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

For the first time, three respected news icons in Philippine broadcast journalism are joining forces to strengthen “TV Patrol,” ABS-CBN’s flagship newscast and the leading news program in the country for the past 23 years.

Starting Monday, November 8, Korina Sanchez and Noli “Kabayan” De Castro will return to television to join Ted Failon in "TV Patrol" to form the most tried and tested news team ever assembled in the history of Philippine broadcasting.

The powerhouse team, all seasoned and working broadcast journalists, is collaborating to present news that matter to Filipinos all over the world and to give back to their kapamilya viewers by strengthening the public service commitment of ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs, the country's most credible news organization based on a recent study by Pulse Asia.

Failon, in his 27 years in the industry, is the “Sandigan ng Bayan” for his commitment and focus on issues up to their resolution. Sanchez, on the other hand, is the intelligent and brave “Kakampi ng Bayan,” who has reported on the biggest news in the country since she started in ABS-CBN in 1986. She also holds the distinction of being the first female main anchor of “TV Patrol.”

De Castro, "Kabayan ng Pilipino,” returns with a wider knowledge of the workings of government after his stint as vice president of the Philippines. He started making a name on radio during the Martial Law years. Kabayan is also the original anchor of “TV Patrol,” and the hard-hitting investigative show, "Magandang Gabi Bayan."

“TV Patrol” is the country's number one primetime newscast in the country with an average rating of 32.6% in September beating GMA's "24 Oras," according to Kantar Media. When it comes to news, most Filipinos say ABS-CBN is the most credible TV network in the country as seen in the results of a Pulse Asia nationwide survey. 72% of the Filipinos believe ABS-CBN gave the most credible TV news coverage of the May 2010 elections, higher than GMA, which had only 63% believing in its credibility, and TV 5’s 32%.

In line with this development, the Kapamilya network is also beefing up its late night newscast “Bandila,” and has offered ABS-CBN news veterans Julius Babao and Karen Davila to join Ces Drilon as anchors.

Drilon, Babao, and Davila will provide deeper analysis and extended coverage of the day’s biggest news in “Bandila.”

For news that matters to every Filipino, tune in to the newscasts that stand by the truth and the good of the people. Watch Ted Failon, Korina Sanchez, and Noli De Castro in “TV Patrol," on primetime nights, as well as Ces Orena Drilon, Julius Babao, and Karen Davila in “Bandila” late evening, from Mondays to Fridays in ABS-CBN.

ABS-CBN Upholds Pinoys' Commitment To Change In New Christmas Station ID

ABS-CBN formally jumpstarts its Christmas campaign with President Noynoy Aquino as the guest of honor in the blessing and dedication of the ELJ Communications Center and the launch of its Christmas campaign with a station ID to be aired during “TV Patrol” on November 4, Thursday.

Coming from last year’s phenomenal and award-winning “Bro, Ikaw ang Star ng Pasko,” ABS-CBN newest station music video dubbed as “Ngayong Pasko, Magniningning ang Pilipino” will once again kindle the light of unity and honor Filipinos’ commitment to change.

On the same day, ABS-CBN executives, employees, and guests from the government, private sector, and the media will celebrate the 82nd birth anniversary of its late chairman Geny “Kapitan” Lopez and recognize the winners in this year’s Bayaning Pilipino Awards.

Other activities lined-up for the Christmas campaign this year will include the Kapamilya Simbang Gabi, the selling of the Kapamilya Parol, holding of Christmas bazaars, staging of Christmas special at the Araneta Coliseum, and launching viewers text promo.

This year, ABS-CBN is making the Kapamilya Parol as a symbol of this commitment and will stand as a pledge for our individual share in bringing about change in our lives, our families, our nation.

Supported by 200 of the biggest and the brightest Kapamilyas from the different platforms of ABS-CBN – Entertainment, News and Current Affairs, ANC, DZMM and Tambayan 101.9, and the Regional Network Group— the music video involved in entertaining and giving service to the public.

Noontime talent show “Showtime” staged a real live event for the benefit of the madlang people at the Escopa II, Project 4, Quezon City. Led by “Showtime” barkada Vhong Navarro, Anne Curtis, Kim Atienza, Jugs and Teddy, and Vice Ganda, they gave away gifts to lucky madlang people who showed their ‘samples’ or talents alongside winning performances from XB Gen San, Philippine Islands Assassins, and Unlimited Boys. The A Pop Young and the Gigger Boys served as judges.

Meanwhile, patients at the Perpetual Succor Hospital in Sampaloc, Manila were recipients of ABS-CBN Foundation gift packs of school supplies, DVDs of ABS-CBN Foundation shows, and Bayanijuan t-shirts given out by Kapamilya stars Piolo Pascual, Gretchen Barretto and the hosts of “Pilipinas Win na Win” Rico J. Puno, Marco Sison, Rey Valera,Nonoy Zuñiga, Valerie Concepcion, Gee Canlas and Janelle Jamer.

ABS-CBN Signs P10 Billion Syndicated Term Loan Agreement

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

Taking advantage of prevailing low interest rates and its stronger financial performance in recent years, ABS-CBN Corporation, the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, today signed a P10 billion syndicated term loan agreement to refinance existing debt as well as fund planned capital expenditures and general working capital requirements.

Bank of the Philippine Islands, Banco de Oro , Security Bank, Insular Life, Allied Bank and AlliedBank Savings, and PNB and PNB Life funded the loan.

The loan agreement was signed by President & COO Ma. Rosario Santos-Concio and Chief Finance Officer Rolando P. Valdueza for ABS-CBN. In his closing remarks, Mr. Valdueza thanked the participating lenders for their continuing confidence in ABS-CBN, and for their support of the Company’s business and financial prospects. “The oversubscribed order book for our debt refinancing and new debt is a clear manifestation of how our partnership has grown over the years,” he said.

Of the P10 billion total loan amount, P6.6 billion will go toward refinancing existing debt, while the remainder of P3.4 billion in new debt will help fuel the Company’s continuing growth. The new debt is intended for planned capital expenditures in digital terrestrial TV infrastructure and the continuing expansion requirements for cable TV and other services.

The loan was structured as an unsecured and unsubordinated bullet and partly amortizing loan maturing in 2017, priced at a 65 basis points spread over the 7-year PDST-F benchmark for the fixed rate portion of the loan, and over the 3-month PDST-F for the floating rate portion. Consequently, ABS-CBN’s effective interest cost on all its interest-bearing debt goes down by about two percentage points, from which the Company expects to generate savings in annual interest expenses of about P92 million. Apart from the savings that will be generated, the new loan agreement also incorporates more relaxed covenants.

BPI Capital Corporation acted as Lead Arranger and Sole Book-runner for the transaction. BDO Capital and Security Bank acted as loan arrangers, while PNB Capital and Insular Life were co-arrangers. BPI’s Asset Management and Trust Group will serve as the loan’s facility agent.

GMA-7 Profit Down by 26% in Third Quarter

Posted by JED on , under | comments (2)

GMA Network Inc. posted a 26% drop in profit in the third quarter of the year from a year ago, ff. a decline in air time revenues with the absence of political ads that boosted earnings in the same period last year. The company on Thursday announced that profit dropped to P583M in july to September of 2010 from P788M in the same quarter last year.

Gross revenue slipped by 10% to P3.3B as a result of 12% decline in air time revenue, which made the bulk of the total. “To be perfectly honest, the third quarter was a disappointment but not a very big one,” GMA chair and CEO Felipe Gozon said in a briefing. Gozon explained the company also had to raise its ad rates earlier in the year, which scared some big advertisers away temporarily. One advertiser, in particular, even boycotted the company for as long as three months due to the hike in rates.

'Willing Willie' Launch on TV5 Hits Number 1

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Willie Revillame is back! Last Saturday,"Willing Willie," his much talked about new show on TV5, went on air for the first time and instantly became the #1 show on its timeslot. The Nielsen TV Audience Measurement (Megamanila Individuals) overnight ratings showed that with Willie’s new show, TV5 won 33.8%, followed by ABS-CBN with 30.4% and GMA with 26.0%.

Gathering over 250 performers on a multi-million peso new set, the pilot episode of "Willing Willie" caused quite a stir last Saturday. The show became a worldwide trending topic on social networking site, Twitter. And the opening was greeted with such a big turnout of fans that traffic along Quirino Highway in Novaliches was at a standstill.

Willie is thankful for the continuous support of throngs of fans and supporters all across the country and in different parts of the world, who strongly voiced their clamor for the popular TV host’s much-awaited comeback. “We wouldn’t have made it to No.1 if not for the fans and the people who believe that we have to continue what we started, to keep helping people, make a difference in their lives, and bring quality entertainment to Filipinos all over the world,” Willie said, adding that the Filipino viewers deserve to be No. 1.

We are ecstatic with the very strong rating of Willing Willie and this is indubitable proof that Willie Revillame, contrary to recent propaganda, is and remains a well-loved host with a large base of loyal followers. We are confident that Willing Willie will also deliver strong ratings during weekdays and provide further lift to the ratings of our weekday shows,” shared Atty. Ray C. Espinosa, TV5 President and CEO.

With its impressive launch, "Willing Willie" completes a new trio of #1 shows on TV5's Saturday lineup. Earlier in October, Vic Sotto's "L.O.L. (Laugh or Lose)" also became the #1 show on its timeslot during its first episode. And TV5's original 'Weekend Winner', "Talentadong Pinoy" hosted by Ryan Agoncillo, has been consistently ranked the #1 show on its timeslot and has become such a huge hit that it set a trend in talent shows on rival networks.

Because of the success of its shows, in less than a year, the newly-launched TV5 under the leadership of Manny Pangilinan is now the #1 network on Saturday primetime. The same Nielsen report showed that from 5pm-10pm last Saturday, TV5 got an audience share of 31.9% compared to ABS-CBN's 29.1% and GMA's 27.9%.

TV5 has already begun winning weekends, especially on Saturdays with L.O.L. and Talentadong Pinoy. The addition of Willing Willie makes TV5 truly the network to watch. It’s any programmers dream to have Vic Sotto, Ryan Agoncillo and Willie Revillame in one network and on one night. And yet, despite having such big name hosts, the great thing about our Saturday lineup is that the three shows are also focused on the audience, the shows all shine the spotlight on the people,” said TV5 EVP and COO Roberto “Bobby” V. Barreiro.

"Willing Willie" airs at 5pm on Saturdays, and 6:30pm from Monday to Friday.

Viewers continue to get hooked to "Kristine": Zanjoe Marudo and Cristine Reyes Win More Fans

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Zanjoe Marudo and Cristine Reyes of “Martha Cecilia’s Kristine” proved they are one of primetime’s hottest love teams after a successful get together organized by their fans last October 24 in a restaurant in Quezon City.

Zantine Nation president, Joyce Ann Solario, said the party was made complete by the Prince of Passion Zanjoe and Jewel of Romance Cristine, who both came to party with them.

She added fans of Zanjoe and Cristine outside the country and from different regions also helped in making the first grand eyeball of the Zantine fans possible. “Lumaki yung event as each fan group sent or volunteered a representative. Tulong-tulong. Meron kaming help from abroad and from the other regions," Joyce explained.

The fans agree the sexy twosome has undeniable chemistry on-screen and even off-screen. “Ang cute kasi nila sa set. Nanood kami once ng taping and I think hindi lang sa teleserye lumalabas yung sweetness nila. Hindi put-on,” said Vanessa Galera of Caloocan.

Ang sarap nilang panoorin kasi parang hindi sila umaarte eh,” Christian Delos Angeles added.

Marudo said he did not expect the overwhelming support that their fans showed. “Na-sorpresa talaga kami sa laki ng event na ginawa ng Zantine para sa amin ni AA. Matagal na yung huli kong ganong event, ‘yung huli eh noong pagkatapos pa ng PBB,” the hunk actor said.

He said the best thing about their supporters is that they really follow “Kristine” every night.
Sinuportahan nila kami hindi dahil may issue, sinuportahan nila kami dahil sa napapanood nila kami sa TV,” he said. This is surely one of the reason their program continuously lead the ratings game, even if it was moved to a later timeslot and even after a new show was launched against it.

The viewers of “Kristine” have more reasons to be hooked with the explosive developments in the show. This week, Don Leon will discover that Jaime is his son with the Alicia De Silva. How will the Fortalejo patriarch explain this to his granddaughter Jewel? Would she believe him after all his attempts to ruin Jewel’s relationship with Jaime? And stay tuned for a great event in Paso de Blas which will affect all of the characters’ lives.

Don’t miss the teleserye that fires up the evening of every Filipino, “Martha Cecilia’s Kristine, Monday to Friday on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida.
