ABS-CBN Fails to Get a TRO for Willie Revillame's 'Willing Willie'

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Ms. Charo Santos-Concio, ABS-CBN President, can't contain her sadness in the decision made by Judge Luisito Cortez of Branch 84 of the Quezon City Regional Trial Branch to hand down the TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) filed by ABS-CBN against Willie Revillame's new TV5 show at the end of this month.

The TRO intends to prevent the October 23 airing of Willie's new variety game titled 'Willing Willie'.

According to the ruling released today, October 22, by QC Regional Trial Court Branch 84, ABS-CBN "failed to discharge the burden of proving that there exists an urgent need for the issuance of a TRO to prevent great or irreparable injury that it might suffer."

On her statement at TV Patrol earlier tonight, Ms. Charo airs her side on the decision made by Judge Cortez. She said:

Jerry Yan Returns to Kapamilya and Is Officially Down With Love

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

After his hit series "Meteor Garden" and "Hotshot," Asian superstar Jerry Yan seems to be making the headlines once more as he is reportedly ready to fall in love and has developed feelings for his co-star.

But before his fans react, this new and rather 'unlikely' flame Jerry is talking about is actually the love interest of Elvin, the role he is playing in the much-awaited romantic comedy "Down with Love" premiering Monday, October 25, on ABS-CBN.

The King of Asianovela is paired with Charming Sweetheart from "Hana Kimi," Ella Chen who will play as the tomboy-in-disguise Malou.

Ever since his brother died, Elvin assumed the role of father to his unruly niece and nephew. But he can’t give full attention to them being a top lawyer thus, he leaves it all to the nanny.

There’s really no problem when it comes to hiring nannies except for the fact that all of them fall in love with the handsome Elvin.

And so Elvin decided to search for a nanny who’s heart wont beat for him and this is where Malou enters. Desperate to get a job, Malou pretends to be a lesbian so that she will be able to earn enough money and pay the debts father who left them.

Seems like a win-win situation for the two but what if Malou starts to grow feelings for her Elvin? With their cat-dog relationship, Elvin will also grow feelings for her but how will he face the fact that he is falling in love with a lesbian?

Laughter and romance will surely come your way in the exciting premiere of "Down with Love," this Monday, October 25, on the first and true home of Asianovelas, ABS-CBN.

'Patrol Ng Pilipino' Replaces 'The Correspondents' Starting October 26

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

They are the ones who brave crime scenes, areas in conflict, and places devastated by calamities. They sit through hearings, chase personalities for interviews, and analyze documents to make sense out of the issues in the nation. They do all these, day in and day out, to come up with stories that matter to Filipinos.

They are ABS-CBN's band of journalists who live to tell the stories of the nation, of every Filipino. This Tuesday, October 26, they will let us into their world to uncover the interesting and revealing web of stories behind the news reports we see on television on "Patrol ng Pilipino."

"Patrol ng Pilipino" (PNP) is a weekly 45-minute news documentary program that will give an in-depth look at the biggest stories aired on ABS-CBN newscasts "Umagang Kay Ganda," "TV Patrol," and "Bandila."

Each week, two to three ABS-CBN reporters will revisit their reports to show unaired footage, behind-the-scene videos, extended interviews, and also new information that will reveal the bigger picture of the featured stories.

On the pilot episode of "Patrol Ng Pilipino," Jorge Cariño will look back on his coverage of Typhoon Juan in Cagayan, where he saw with his own eyes how the province was reduced to ruins, how people there fought to survive, and how the government tried to save both lives and property.

Jeff Canoy will also zoom back to his investigative piece on child miners in Davao Oriental, and reveal more of his interaction with the kids, their families, and the authorities. Canoy will also give a glimpse of raw footage that will unearth the true emotions of the key people in the story.

Because the viewers have the right to know the truth, "Patrol Ng Pilipino" will show all angles of an issue, give face to the data and statistics, and reveal the emotions behind every report. Watch "Patrol ng Pilipino" this Tuesday, October 26, after "Bandila" on ABS-CBN.

20 'Star Power'’ Finalists Now Ready To Battle For Female Pop Superstar Title

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Everyone was pleasantly surprised last Sunday as the one-and-only Megastar Sharon Cuneta, together with ABS-CBN’s most distinguished executives announced not only 12 but 20 finalists among the regional contenders, to compete in the much-talked-about Star Power, Sharon’s Search for the Next Pop Superstar.

"It really took us a hard time to choose. Sobrang gagaling ng mga sumali from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Instead of just 12, we’ve decided to choose 20, whom we think have the potential of becoming the next female pop superstar," the Megastar said.

The eminent panel of deliberators, who meticulously chose the 20 is composed of ABS-CBN President and Chief Operating Officer Charo Santos-Concio, former ABS-CBN President Freddie M. Garcia, Head of ABS-CBN Channel 2 Cory Vidanes, Entertainment Head Linggit Tan, Managing Director of Star Cinema Malou Santos, TV director/star builder and Star Magic consultant Johnny Manahan, Managing Director of Star Records Anabelle Regalado-Borja, Asap XV, Asap Live and Star Power Business Unit Head Joyce Liquicia, and of course, Megastar Sharon Cuneta. All of them shared their constructive remarks to each of the regional finalists who showcased their singing talents.

"I am proud to welcome them in my Star Power circle," said Sharon as she announced the names of the finalists. The battle between the 20 starts this Sunday in Star Power, after Rated K on ABS-CBN.

This Sunday, seven of them—Rheena, Camille, Glaiza, Angeline, Laurice, Macy and Sam—shine as they sing songs of their lives in My Story, My Song. Megastar will also take a deeper look on the lives of each of these contenders.

Rheena Ferrer, the first contender to perform on Sunday dreams to enter the prestigious Conservatory of Music. Her retired soldier dad, however, wants her to be a lawyer. But the young Rheena believes she can be a singing lawyer. "Lahat nang natutunan ko from my parents, especially my father, gagamitin ko para matupad ko ang mga pangarap ko sa buhay," Rheena said.

Camille Peralta, on the other hand, learned from her father that in this world "nothing is permanent." That’s why in every opportunity that comes along her way, she always gives her best shot. "Dumating sa point na sobrang nabaon na ang pamilya ko sa utang. Kaya gusto kong gamitin yung talent ko upang bumangon kami at maitaas, kahit papaano, yung antas ng pamumuhay namin. Kung nasa ilalim kami ngayon, I’m sure there will come a point na giginhawa din ang buhay namin," she shared.

For Glaiza Micua, the fierce contestant from Luzon, family must always be the first priority. Her mom is an accountant while her dad is a security guard. Their smooth-sailing lives were only derailed a bit when her sibling ran away after he had a misunderstanding with their dad. Since then, Glaiza’s life gradually became very sad as she lost one of her best companions—her kuya. In her quest for stardom, she also hopes for her family to reunite again.

Angeline Quinto also had a bittersweet life. She never met her biological mother while her father abandoned her when she was still a child and already built a new family. Despite all the misery she experienced, Angeline is still grateful to have grown up with her loving grandmother. "Sumali ako sa Star Power para sa mga taong hindi na naniniwala sa akin," shares Angeline.

So long as she has her guitar to strum, Laurice Bermillo will be the "happiest person alive." She shares that whenever she’s happy she just sings it out loud. Her most “down” moment is when she had to quit school because of financial constraints. Now, with Star Power, Laurice wants to regain whatever important thing she lost in her life.

Beauty, brains, singing talent, happy family and well-off life are the things Macy delos Reyes has. But because of the separation of her parents, all of these shattered. She was then turned over to her grandmother’s care. Her loving grandama, however, died. And that’s the time she felt so alone. Insecurities and fears are only of the few effects Macy got from her life experience. Will she be able to rebuild herself in Star Power?

Sam Hernandez, who will perform on Sunday, believes that not everyone is given a second chance at life. She shared her experience when she and her best friend amazingly survived a horrible vehicular accident. That’s why, for her, life really has to be cherished and lived to the fullest. She also dreams to have her own album in the future. Will Star Power pave way for it?

"In every song you sing, you should really have a heart for it. Just believe in yourself," Star Power co-host and Asian Idol Christian Bautista advised the contestants.

With contestants already geared up, Star Power again dominates the Sunday’s Primetime block. Never miss the unending surprises in "Sharon’s Search for the Next Female Pop Superstar" on Sunday, October 24, after Rated K on ABS-CBN.

"Si P-Noy at Ang Pinoy" Airs on GMA-7 This Sunday

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

When Jessica Soho asked Pres. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III about the biggest achievement of the previous administration he is willing to concede, he replied abruptly, "catering." The current Malacañang caterer is one of the few things retained from the past administration.

In his first exclusive sit-down interview as President of the Republic, PNoy proves to be a candid and opinionated Chief Executive with much to say about everything from the performance of the previous President to the status of his relationship with girlfriend Shalani Soledad.

The GMA News and Public Affairs special Si P-Noy at ang Pinoy tackles the first one hundred days of Pres. Aquino in office through the prism of his values and personal history as scion of the powerful Cojuangco and Aquino clans. It offers an uncompromising examination of the difficulties PNoy faced in adjusting to his responsibilities as the new President of the Philippines.

Multi-awarded broadcast journalist Jessica Soho did not hesitate to ask the difficult questions that the PNoy administration seems to avoid: from his stand on the redistribution of Hacienda Luisita land to his support of the Reproductive Health Bill. Soho was also given a rare opportunity to observe PNoy in the Office of the President as he goes about his day as the country's Chief Executive.

Si PNoy at ang Pinoy, featuring music from rapper Gloc 9, airs this Sunday, October 24, on GMA's Sunday Night Box Office (SNBO) after Show Me Da Manny.

ABS-CBN Relives The 'Mara Clara' Legacy

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

After 12 years, the 'Mother of All Teleseryes,' "Mara Clara," comes home to ABS-CBN as the network relives the legacy that had served as the major core of local drama plots. Mara clara starts airing on October 25 on Primetime Bida.

Aired from August 17, 1992 until February 14, 1997, Mara Clara has been one of the highest-rated soap operas in the history of Philippine TV and is considered as one of the most unforgettable stories ever told on the boob tube. These are some of the facts that have pushed the network to do a remake of the classic family drama that has become a household tag by adding a modern twist to the mentioned 90’s television masterpiece.

Still circling on the story of two girls who were raised in two opposite worlds – one grew up in a comfortable and rich lifestyle while the other spent her childhood in slums- whose lives and fate are intertwined, Mara Clara will be topbilled by two promising young actresses of their time, Kathryn Bernardo as the new Mara and Julia Montes as the new Clara. Both will reprise the roles of two characters that have made a mark not only in local showbusiness marquee but also carved an indelible spot in the hearts of the Filipinos.

Directed by Jerome Pobocan, director of the now defunct top-rating primetime series "May Bukas Pa," the new 'Mara Clara' will still have that magic that once captivated the Pinoy viewers for five years. "Nandoon pa rin ang kurot ng Mara Clara. Kung paano kayo naantig noon sa kwento at mga eksena, nandoon pa rin yung ‘magic’ na yoon sa remake nito," Pobocan shared.

Mara Clara was the first Philippine drama series to have its own movie via Star Cinema in 1996 with the same title.

Reminisce the legacy and be part of the new "Mara Clara" as it premieres on October 25 on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida.

Mrs. Cecile Ongpauco, Heart Evangelista's Mom Answers Annabelle Rama's Wrongful Statements Towards Heart

Posted by JED on Friday, October 22, 2010 , under | comments (2)

Mrs. Cecile Ongpauco, reacts to the harsh statements made by Annabelle against Heart in a presscon held yesterday, October 21, after they (the Ongpaucos) decided not to renew Heart's co-management contract with the Gutierrez matriarch when the contract expires next year, 2011.

At the presscon yesterday, Annabelle called Heart "walanghiya, ingrata, walang utang na loob," and "laos." (click here to read related story.)

Mrs. Ongpauco, said that she is standing by the family's decision "not to renew the co-management contract" with Annabelle Rama and that their family "have always been Heart's main manager."

She added that they have always been "behind all the major decisions, projects, and career moves of Heart" even when they "hired" Annabelle to co-manage the young actress.

Mrs. Ongapuco also ignored the statements made by Annabelle towards Heart. "We do not wish to dignify her wrongful statements towards Heart," she said.

Here is the complete statement of Mrs. Cecile Ongpauco:

We have always been Heart's main Manager and have always been behind all the major decisions, projects and career moves of Heart even when we HIRED Annabelle Rama to co-manage Heart. We do not wish to dignify her wrongful statements towards Heart. And we stand by our decision and it is our prerogative not to renew the co-management contract that we gave to Annabelle when it expires in 2011."

Glee Stars Racy Photos on GQ Magazine November 2010 Issue

"Glee" stars Dianna Agron, Cory Monteith and Lea Michele take a break from being wholesome to being wild, provocative and scandalous on GQ Magazine November 2010 issue.

Alhough the three are above 18 years old (Dianna and Lea are both 24 while Cory is 28), their suggestive (or should I say 'racy') photos, still, put them on the verge controversy.

Photos showed Cory in full dress while Dianna and Lea stripped down to their sexy underwear - a behavior much far from their roles in "Glee".

See evidences below:

Meanwhile, Dianna shared her opinions on her blog with a preface:"I am not a representative of the three of us, the show, or Fox, only myself."

Here's the full entry:

In the land of Madonna, Britney, Miley, Gossip Girl, other public figures and shows that have pushed the envelope and challenged the levels of comfort in their viewers and fans…we are not the first. Now, in perpetuating the type of images that evoke these kind of emotions, I am sorry. If you are hurt or these photos make you uncomfortable, it was never our intention. And if your eight-year-old has a copy of our GQ cover in hand, again I am sorry. But I would have to ask, how on earth did it get there?

"I was a very sheltered child, and was not aware of anything provocative or risque in the media while I was navigating through my formative years. When I was finally allowed to watch a movie like Grease, I did not even understand what on earth Rizzo was talking about!? I understand that in today’s world of advanced technology, the internet, our kids can be subject to very adult material at the click of a button. But there are parental locks, and ways to get around this. I am twenty-four years old. I have been a pretty tame and easy-going girl my whole life. Nobody is perfect, and these photos do not represent who I am. I am also not the girl who rolls out of bed with flawless makeup and couture clothing. I am most comfortable with my hair thrown on top of my head, in sweats, laughing with my friends. Glee is a show that represents the underdogs, which is a feeling I have embraced much of my own life, and to those viewers, the photos in GQ don’t give them that same feeling. I understand completely.

"For GQ, they asked us to play very heightened versions of our school characters. A 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' version. At the time, it wasn't my favorite idea, but I did not walk away. I must say, I am trying to live my life with a sharpie marker approach. You can’t erase the strokes you’ve made, but each step is much bolder and more deliberate. I’m moving forward from this one, and after today, putting it to rest. I am only myself, I can only be me. These aren’t photos I am going to frame and put on my desk, but hey, nor are any of the photos I take for magazines. Those are all characters we’ve played for this crazy job, one that I love and am so fortunate to have, each and every day. If you asked me for my dream photo shoot, I’d be in a treehouse, in a wild costume, war-paint and I’d be playing with my pet dragon. Until then….."

Why Vic Sotto and Pia Guanio Broke Up

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

They have been going steady for only more than five years so the break-up of Vic Sotto and Pia Guanio cannot be attributed to the so-called seven-year itch.

"They simply drifted away from each other," said the informant. "No third party, no lovers’ quarrel, no nothing. It’s not true that Pia got tired waiting for Vic to propose marriage. Wala siyang ganoong expectation. ‘Yung drifting away from each other was mutual."

That is, despite unconfirmed rumors that Vic has been seeing a non-showbiz lady executive. Both Vic and Pia are mum on the matter and they seem to be putting up a happy front on Eat, Bulaga! As if, you know, nothing happened. There’s another Pia in Vic’s life and her name is casually dropped as one of the probable causes but those close to the un-couple said that could not be because "that Pia" has been abroad for a few years.

Last Holy Week, Vic and Pia ("G," that is) were still okay during a vacation in Indonesia. But in July, they quietly parted ways, that’s why, according to one of those in the entourage, "they were not sweet sa isa’t-isa anymore during Eat, Bulaga!’s show in Anaheim, California last month."

Ladies (all Bulaga co-hosts) linked to Vic usually quit the show when the romance ended…as in "co-terminus…" among them Chiqui Hollman, Coney Reyes, Christine Jacob and Kristine Florendo. Oops! Did I miss somebody? Sorry, dami kasi nila, eh! Will Pia "G" go the same way? Well, there’s always an exception, right?

ABS-CBN Issues Statement on the Intervention Case Filed by Ex-Wowowee Staff Members

Posted by JED on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 , under | comments (3)

ABS-CBN lashed out at ex-Wowowee staff members for filing a complaint at the Quezon City court earlier today, October 20, seeking for damages following their decision to resign from the Justify Fullnetwork and join former host Willie Revillame's new show with another station.

In a statement issued today, October 20, the Lopez-owned network, stated that those who resigned from their posts "should be responsible for their own actions" and not hold the company accountable for the results of their collective and individual decisions.

The statement also stressed that the main focus of the entire issue is about Revillame's failure to adhere to his legal obligation as agreed upon when both parties signed the contract.

Here is the entire content of the statement sent by ABS-CBN through Mr. Bong Osorio, ABS-CBN head of Corporate Communications:

It does not make sense for the people who voluntarily left ABS-CBN and joined Willie Revillame in ABC 5 to seek damages from the Kapamilya network, which had nothing to do with their personal decisions. They should be responsible for their own actions and should not blame anybody or any organization for the consequences of their decisions.

The intervention complaint filed today is apparently a calculated move and is an attempt to gain public sympathy and distract the court from the real issue. We reiterate that the main issue in this case is about Willie honoring his contract with ABS-CBN until September 2011. It is not only talents and artists who should be interested in the outcome of this case, but also the business and legal communities as well. At the heart of the issue is whether reliance may still be had in agreements forged between parties. If not, chaos shall reign in what should otherwise be a civilized and orderly society."

Willie and ABS-CBN are currently locked down in a legal dispute after the latter filed for a motion aiming to prevent the October 23 airing of Willie's new variety game show under TV5 titled Willing Willie.

Judge Luisito Cortez of Branch 84 of the Quezon City Regional Trial Branch announced last October 8 that the court decision on the TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) filed by ABS-CBN against the upcoming show will be handed down at the end of this month.

The decision automatically means that the scheduled debut of Willing Willie will push through without delay until the court issues a new order before November.

ABS-CBN, however, filed a counter motion asking the court to reconsider its initial ruling and issue a decision before the program's scheduled premiere.

ANC is Twitter's Most Influential News Account in the Philippines

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

ANC has now over 100,000 unique followers on Twitter.

ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel, reached another milestone last Tuesday, October 19, after its followers on twitter broke the 100,000 mark, making it the most followed and most influential Filipino news organization on the popular international social-networking site.

This only shows that ANC (#ANCalerts) is the preferred source of more Filipinos from all over the world for breaking news and news updates in the country and the world.

ANC Chief Operating Officer Glenda M. Gloria said this new achievement further solidifies ANC’s presence in social media, which is said to be where the future of journalism is heading with the growing number of people who get and exchange information online.

"ANC was the first TV channel in the Philippines to convert Twitter and Facebook into a second channel," says ANC Chief Operating Officer Glenda M. Gloria. "We were also the first to have its own social media team, which is composed of young, aggressive and news-savvy producers and writers."

Because of its social media presence, more young professionals and students are now tuned to ANC, a market that Gloria says ANC had not been successful in penetrating before 2008.

As one of the country’s first and staunchest advocates of citizen journalism, ANC has already built a strong following among netizens. On its Facebook page, around 34,000 of its 41,076 fans actively participate in the ANC 24/7 wall, while post views reach an average of no less than 500,000 a month.

In July 2010, meanwhile, ANC joined other global news channels such as BBC and CNBC, which are regularly advertised by Twitter on its front door. It also tops the list of the most influential Philippine news accounts on Twitter.

On October 4, a regular news day, @ANCAlerts had a unique reader reach of 92,422 but a total reader reach of 5,818,350 based on re-tweets. ANC’s election day coverage, on the other hand, also got the biggest number of unique visitors among all the election newcasts that were live streamed on abs-cbnnews.com on May 10.

Through social media, the Philippines' first 24-hour global cable news channel hopes to empower Filipinos from across demographics to get involved in discussions on the nation’s issues, to report on the situations in their areas, as well to keep abreast with the latest events in the country.

It has also incorporated social media in its programs like the newly-launched "The Brew" featuring Twink Macaraig, Nadia Trinidad, and Gang Badoy, and "Tease" with Ginger Conejero.

Star Magic Warns Unauthorized Use of its Talents' Images for Election Campaign Purposes

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

A candidate in the October 25 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections is using the image of child star Zaijan Jaranilla in campaign posters without permission, Star Magic confirmed.

Zaijan rose to fame after playing Santino in award-winning television series "May Bukas Pa." He is one of the lead stars of popular TV soap "Noah."

Star Magic, which handles the career of the child star, clarified that it did not authorize any candidate or organization to use the images of Zaijan.

"The use of images of Zaijan Jaranilla, or any Star Magic artists in a campaign poster by any candidate or organization, is totally unauthorized," it said in a statement.

"We advise that the erring parties take steps to rectify the situation or face legal action," it added.

Star Magic did not name the candidate involved, but reports said it was referring to a barangay councilor contender in Oriental Mindoro.

TV5 to Air Its First Teleserye 'My Driver Sweet Lover'

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

Encouraged by the success of its initial set of drama show '5 Star Presents', TV5 will launch its first daily teleserye titled 'My Driver Sweet Lover' on Monday, October 25.

My Driver Sweet Lover (My DSL for short) is a romance-comedy series featuring JC de Vera and singer Danita Paner.

"We at TV5 thought it would take us another two years before we could mount a massive production for a daily TV series," TV5 head of creative and entertainment production Perci M. Intalan told reporters last week. "But after we saw how [quickly] TV5 has grown in recent months, we became more confident that we can join the big networks and come up with our own series."

But instead of producing a drama series, TV5 chose to break with tradition by offering light comedy fare for its first venture. "We trust that we’re in the right direction because we’ve got a great story to tell, and powerhouse cast and crew," Mr. Intalan said.

"TV5 has started winning weekends [in the ratings race]. Now we’re making our weeknight programming more exciting."

Directed by Soxie Topacio and Eric Quizon, My DSL is the story of a charming jeepney driver (JC de Vera) and a bratty hotel heiress (Danita Paner) who initially do not like each other. It has an all-star cast which includes Richard Gomez, Dina Bonnevie, Eddie Gutierrez, Pilita Corrales, Nova Villa, Yayo Aguila, Epi Quizon, Ruby Rodriguez, Arci Muñoz, Ramon Christopher, and Keempee de Leon.

My DSL will air weeknights at 10:30 p.m.

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

ABS-CBN preps up for the highly-anticipated remake of Mara Clara, dubbed as the "mother of all teleseryes."

ABS-CBN has been successful in remaking Asianovelas My Girl, Lover's in Paris, Only You and Mexicanovela Rubi. Now, the Kapamilya Network ventures into remaking one of the highest-rated Primetime Soap Operas in the country and the most loved series of the 1990’s that has aired for five record-breaking years; Emil Cruz Jr.’s Mara Clara.

The budding stars Kathryn Bernardo as Mara and Julia Montes as Clara, the top-billers of the upcoming series, are set to follow the footsteps of the original Mara and Clara, Judy Ann Santos, Queen of Soap Opera and Gladys Reyes, one of the most formidable Kontrabida on Philippine TV as they pour out intense acting on the highly-anticipated teleserye.

"Sobrang happy po ako dahil sa dami ng artista na pwede nilang piliin for this role, ako yung pinili nila. Yung ‘Mara Clara’ ay ‘Mother of all teleseryes’ at saka five years po siyang tumakbo kaya sobrang happy ako na ako yung pinagkatiwalaan ng ABS-CBN na gumanap as Mara." Kathryn stated in an interview.

Other cast members of this television masterpiece will give life to characters that have created a mark in the history of Philippine drama: Bobby Andrews will play the role of Amante (formerly portrayed by Juan Rodrigo), Ping Medina as Kardo (formerly played by Dan Fernandez), John Manalo as Eris (formerly played by Christopher Rojas), Albi Casino as Christian (formerly portayed by Wowie de Guzman), Chokoleit as CG (Eagle Riggs) , Jhong Hilario as Gary (foermerly portrayed by Eruel Tongco), Mylene Dizon as Susan (formerly played by Susan Africa), and Ms. Gina Pareno.

Gladys expressed her thoughts on the remake of the show that has boosted her career during the 90's. "For five years, sinasampal ko si Juday (Judy Anne Santos) ngayon, gusto kong abangan kung paano papahirapan ni Julia si Kathryn sa remake ng Mara Clara. Sus ko, after so many years, I'll be watching it (Mara Clara) again hindi na nga lang sarili ko yung makikita ko. But I’m thrilled by the idea."

Watch out for Kathryn and Julia as there on-screen rivalry fires up in 'Mara Clara', coming very soon on ABS-CBN.

'Idol' Finale Week

Posted by JED on Monday, October 18, 2010 , under | comments (0)

ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida's 'Idol' sets foot on its final episode.

"As much as we want to prolong the show but due to constraints in production, schedules & difficulty in daily tapings, Idol will not able to fulfill its 10-13 week term on air. Mahirap magpaalam lalo pa at naging malapit na sa mga puso natin ang Idol. Patuloy po sana nating suportahan ang Idol hanggang sa huli nitong linggo," according to Biboy Arboleda, the show's advertising and promotion head.

An online report also quoted Biboy saying that high production costs - particularly the royalty fees of songs used on the show - and scheduling problems were the reasons for the early ending of 'Idol.'

Sam, however, added that lack of time resulted in the early demise of the show.

According to the actor, the cast and crew would usually tape an episode in the morning. The same episode would be shown later in the evening.

And with him and Geronimo doing shows abroad, shooting for 'Idol' would be even more difficult, he said.

But rumor has it that the show's low TV ratings were pulling down ABS-CBN Primetime Bida's over-all performance, prompting the network to pull it off the air. The staff of the program, however, refuted the speculations.

Sam said he and the cast of “Idol” were saddened by the decision of the network to cut the show short.

Watch out how 'Idol' marks its last 5 episodes on ABS-CBN. Between Sam and Coco, who will make a sacrifice for the love and affection of Sarah?

'Simply KC' Finale Week

The morning talk show of TV host KC Concepcion on ABS-CBN is now on its final week. It has been extended another four weeks on the heels of its growing audience share in recent weeks.

Simply KC debuted on May 24 amid speculation about KC's ability to host a solo talk show. On the show, KC talks with popular celebrities and takes on various challenges such as riding the public train system for the first time, and trying out Muay Thai kickboxing.

Interest in the show waned over time - it lagged in the ratings race behind the cartoons aired by other local TV channels in the same 9:30 a.m. time-slot.

Showbiz critics pointed out that KC's core audience of college students, and young professionals find it difficult to wake up early in the morning just to catch Simply KC.

Ms. Concepcion however disagrees. "I receive a lot of tweets telling me that some of the fans of the show make an effort to wake up early just to watch the show," she said.

The young host is thankful to the ABS-CBN management for extending the show until this October.

Simply KC airs weekdays on ABS-CBN Channel 2.

Bayaning Pilipino Awards - 2010 Finalists

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Launched in 1995, the annual Bayaning Pilipino Awards is a brainchild of the late Don Eugenio Lopez Jr, the founder of ABS-CBN network, through a partnership with Ugat Foundation.

Since then, it has awarded notable Filipinos who had stretched the whole nine yards in the name of public service.

The nationwide award-giving body has 3 categories: Bayaning Pilipino, Bayaning Kabataan, and the Bayaning Samahan.

Annually, entries are collated by regional promoters including ABS-CBN radio and TV stations nationwide. The entries are then forwarded to the Central Office to be sorted out by Ugat project associates.

This year, 57 entries were received by ABS-CBN and Ugat Foundation nationwide and from Japan and the United States.

The project associates then do site visitations, interviews, testimonials, video documentation, and verification procedures.

After a rigorous pre-validation process, the National Screening Committee is tasked to verify the regional finalists and the regional winners.

Eleven were declared regional winners in the Individual category, 4 in the Youth category, and 3 in the Individual section.

From the regional winners, the number were cut down to 5 finalists and the names will be forwarded to the Board of Judges of final deliberation.

The Board of Judges is composed of Eugenio Lopez III, Regina Lopez, Dr. Ambeth Ocampo, Luther Calderon, and Dr. Arthur Tansiongco.

Through short films aired on ABS-CBN channel 2 last Sunday, the public witnessed the stories of Rex Bernardo, Welthy Villanueva, Beatriz Evangelista, Jose Antonio Socrates and Norberto Puasan.

After watching the clips, some 100 members of the audience were made to vote for one finalist through the Wireless Audience Response System (WARS) for the People's Choice Award.

Partial results showed that more than 50% of the audience preferred Villanueva, a doctor who goes to Palawan's far-flung areas to teach and to provide medical services.

The official results of this year's Bayaning Pilipino Awards as well as the People's Choice Award, which include online and SMS votes, will be announced the during Awards Night set on November 4.

Here are the profiles of the Bayaning Pilipino finalists:

Rex Bernardo (Region 5)

Jose Antonio U. Socrates, M.D., (Region 4-B)

Si Doc Soc ay isang batikang DOG (doctor of medicine and geology).

Norberto Puasan (Datu Mampinuhan)
(Region 10)
