Charice Will Be Back On Glee Season 2 Episode 6

Posted by JED on Saturday, October 16, 2010 , under | comments (0)

And sooner than expected!

We know some you were confused when Charice showed up in the season premiere of Glee, threw down in a vocal rumble-rumble with Princess Lea Michele and then peaced-out without making any indication of returning.

Have no fear, the diva is here and it's been foretold she will return to the show as soon as its sixth episode (This week is its fourth).

There was some speculation that she wouldn't be returning to the show until Gwyneth Paltrow made her debut, which won't be until November. We're going to assume they rearranged some things by popular demand.

We're super excited to hear what that rocking Filipina is going to sing next.

Any requests?

In celebration of his 27th year in the local entertainment industry, Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano released his 28th album called "Replay" under Universal Records. The said album is composed of 17 songs that were previously recorded by Gary; re-engineered to have its "current sound".

In contrary to his all-hits album “Greatest Hits”, the songs included in "Replay" were the "unpopular" ones, the not hits, so to speak. These songs may not be charttoppers before but they were equally as good.

Some of the 17 digitally re-mastered tracks included in Replay are "One hello," "Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo," "And I Love You So," "Home," "Tell Me," "Kailan Pa," "Alam Ko Na," and "More and More" among many other romantic and unforgettable songs.

The album's carrier single is the romantic ballad "Did It Ever." See the Paul Soriano directed music video below:

'Beauty Queen' Begins its Reign on October 18 at GMA-7

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

The beauty of Iza Calzado shines on GMA’s Beauty Queen.

In the last few months of its yearlong 60th anniversary celebration, GMA Network innovates once more as it brings to light the glamour, the drama, the intrigues, and the controversial secrets surrounding the world of beauty pageants in its newest original primetime series dubbed as Beauty Queen.

Chosen to play the coveted lead role of a poor but pure-hearted palengke queen-turned-beauty queen named Maita is none other than multi-award winning drama actress Iza Calzado, who has agreed to don a two-piece swimwear, confidently revealing her well-toned and curvaceous body.

But more than just showing off her elegance and beauty, the highly talented actress is raring now more than ever to showcase her wide-range in drama, where Iza truly excels and shines at her brightest.

Also pining for the bedazzled crown in Beauty Queen are two equally gorgeous and capable actresses: today’s generation’s premier kontra bida Katrina Halili, who plays the insecure and timid Dorcas, and 2007 Bb. Pilipinas-World Maggie Wilson, who takes on the role of the competitive and ambitious Rebecca.

Competing for the hearts of the three lovely ladies, meanwhile, are award-winning actor and the 1st Filipino artist to participate as a jury member in the Brussels Film Festival Marvin Agustin as the hugely successful Donald, Kapuso hunk Luis Alandy as the passionate Dante, and finally, sough-after primetime leading man TJ Trinidad as the womanizing Marc.

Completing the powerhouse cast are seasoned actors and actresses Elizabeth Oropesa, Bembol Rocco, Carmi Martin, Juan Rodrigo and 1969 Ms. Universe herself Gloria Diaz. Also in a very special role is the master showman, Mr. German Moreno. The program also stars Marky Lopez, Bubbles Paraiso, Victor Aliwalas, Ricci Chan, Tomas Gonzales, and introducing Lou Sison.

The story of Beauty Queen begins with Maita (Iza Calzado), a struggling beauty-queen aspirant, who dreams of competing in the prestigious Bb. Isla Pilipinas beauty pageant. She rushes from one beauty competition to another in hopes of making her mother, Amparo (Elizabeth Oropesa), a former beauty queen who was dethroned after becoming pregnant, proud of her.

Maita shares the same dream with her childhood best friend Rebecca (Maggie Wilson), the daughter of Leavida (Carmi Martin), another former beauty titlist who happens to be the fiercest rival of Amaparo during their glory days.

Despite being aware of their mothers’ complicated pasts, not to mention their differing social backgrounds, Maita and Rebecca remain supportive of each other’s goals, allowing each one to shine and be known in their own place and time.

As they reach their adolescent years, Rebecca will finally make it as a candidate in the Bb. Isla Pilipinas, while Maita, on the other hand, will be hired as a staff in the Bb. Isla Pilipinas Foundation (BIPF), an organization spearheaded by the prominent and powerful Madam Yuri Sandoval (Gloria Diaz).

Here, Maita meets Marc (TJ Trinidad), Madam Yuri’s ill-tempered son, who surprisingly softens up to the beautiful beauty queen aspirant. The two of them eventually fall in love, but had to keep their relationship a secret most especially from Marc’s denouncing mother.

Meanwhile, as the night of the competition draws hear, Rebecca confesses to Maita that she is having an affair with a married man, certain than her secret will remain safe with her most trusted friend.

At the day of their press conference, however, Rebecca was confronted by the wife in front of everyone present. Rebecca gets disqualified from the beauty pageant, and blames this entirely to Maita.

Immediately after the scandal, Leavida shifts her focus to Dorcas (Katrina Halili) and trains her, with the help of the revenge-seeking Rebecca, to be the family’s representative to the next Bb. Isla Pilipinas pageant, where Maita is also a candidate.

Maita brings home the crown, to the dismay of Leavida, Dorcas, and Rebecca. Leavida, not one to easily accept defeat, orchestrates a plan that led to the disappearance of Maita, who, by a stroke of fate, ends up in the loving arms of Donald (Marvin Agustin).

Believing that Maita had already died from the accident, Dorcas was assigned to take over her term as the reigning Bb. Isla Pilipinas. But more than replacing her as queen, Dorcas also takes Maita’s place in Marc’s life.

How will Maita claim back her thrown, her pride, and, most importantly, the love of her life? Is it possible for Maita, Rebecca, and Dorcas to share something deeper and more precious than a dream for a coveted crown? In the end, whose beauty will reign supreme?

Beauty Queen, under the helm of multi-awarded director, Joel Lamangan and originally written by RJ Nuevas, has the song “She” as its theme song as performed by the Platinum Prince of Soul Jay-R.

Beauty Queen will commence its glittering and awe-inspiring reign on October 18 after Ilumina on GMA Telebabad.

GLEE Season 2 'Duet Episode' Recap

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Puck is in Juvie for stealing an ATM machine so New Directions finally welcomes Sam as their newest member. Woot. He’s an interesting specimen with his Macaulay Culkin lips and Kurt is almost certain that he’s on Team Gay. Schue thinks it’s a good idea to welcome Sam to the club with a little competition. Pick a partner, sing a duet, win a gift certificate to a restaurant with never ending breadsticks. Hmm.

Kurt makes it his mission to partner up with Sam and determine what team he plays for. He’s rather blunt and forceful at first but that’s Kurt. It’s a problem he had with Finn last year and is still in denial about. Finn tries to reason with Kurt that it would scare Sam away from the club if Kurt is too outlandish with him. Not the nicest way of putting it and Kurt doesn’t want to hear it. He blasts Finn for being a homophobe and Finn finally outright says that Kurt’s problem is his denial over how he acts with other guys who aren’t interested. Gasp. Preach! Preach it Finn! At first, I’m kind of bummed because it obviously hasn’t gotten through to Kurt. But then Kurt’s dad takes Finn’s side! Yay! Oh yeah, and he’s alive! Long live Burt. He is laying it DOWN. After finding out what Kurt left out about his feelings for Finn, he calmly tries to get through to him. Take a number buddy.

Rachel and Finn practice for the competition with Don’t Go Breaking My Heart and they’re good. Too good to Rachel, who thinks that if they win yet again it will make Sam feel threatened. They want him to stick around to help them win Nationals so they agree to throw the competition by performing an offensive religious number. It’s really strange. Mercedes and Santana partner up and KILL IT when they perform River Deep, Mountain High. Personally, I thought they were the best of the night. But..can we talk about the really creepy laugh Schue made when they shook their butts? I wasn’t quite prepared when it cut to Santana and Brittany laying on a bed making out but I’m glad that’s finally been confirmed.

Brittany’s feelings for Santana are a little one sided and she hatches a plan. She wants to make Santana jealous, Artie wants to make Tina jealous, so the logical option would be for them to pair up. They go around letting everyone know that they’re dating which is a surprise to Tina who is having her own problems with Mike. They argue a lot and have no musical chemistry. Despite that, they do a cute performance of Sing! from Chorus Line, to poke fun at the fact that Mike is kept around for his dancing. Artie is less than thrilled at their great performance and tries to work with Brittany who kind of sucks. Artie finally admits he still loves Tina and Brittany doesn’t want to let him go just yet. In her mind, having sex with him is a good way to go. And they do. It’s the most awkward scene ever. But Brittany has sex with everybody, and it breaks Artie’s heart that it didn’t mean more to her that he lost his virginity to her. Poor Artie :( I love you.

Kurt gives up on being partners with Sam and tells him so..in the showers. Sigh. He then does a duet with himself, a song from Victor/Victoria complete with the costume. They really go all out for Kurt’s performances don’t they? Much more subdued and after much flirting, Sam and Quinn sing Lucky together. It’s acoustic and adorable and they win the whole thing. New couple alert. Rachel shows some rare compassion for Kurt and his loneliness and together they perform a stunning version of Get Happy.

What did you guys think of this episode? It was better than I was expecting. Sam is shirtless all the time and licking his lips like the Joker and that’s distracting but he’s growing on me. Finn and his weird girly sweater bewildered me for awhile. And Grease 2 is amazing, I don’t know what he’s thinking. I’m also hoping for Artie to get some storyline where he can prove himself as a good boyfriend. He’s still not getting it.

Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu Break Down During Presscon of Till My Heartaches End; Gerald Brought to Medic for Hyperventilation

Posted by JED on , under | comments (11)

Reel partners and (ex) couple Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, known as "Kimerald," broke down during the press conference of their new movie, Till My Heartaches End, earlier today at the Dolphy Theater inside ABS-CBN compound. Gerald revealed that some Kimerald fans have threatened to pour acid on him and actress Bea Alonzo, whom he has been linked to. Added Gerald, some fans have even sent death threats to him and his mother. They reportedly started receiving the threats after Bea was rumored to have caused him and Kim's break-up.

Gerald could not stop crying while recounting the threats. He excused himself afterwards and did not return to the press conference, leaving the cast and director Jose Javier Reyes in tears as well. The young actor reportedly hyperventilated and had to be brought to the medic. Kim, however, tearfully asked the involved Kimerald fans to stop the threats. She said she is hurting for their supposed targets, especially for her onscreen and rumored off-screen partner.

A couple of hours later, Star Cinema said that "Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson are okay now and are actually on their way to a common appointment together. They just shot a highly emotional scene yesterday and the press conference was their first public appearance together."

Maria Ressa Resigns as ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs Head

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

ABS-CBN’s News chief, Maria Ressa, is no longer renewing her contract, which will expire on January 3, 2011.

Here is the full statement of Maria Ressa as released by Mr. Bong R. Osorio, ABS-CBN Corporate Communications Head:

There is a time and place for everything in our lives. My time and place as head of ABS-CBN News & Current Affairs is nearing its end.

My contract ends on Jan. 3, 2011, and I will not be renewing. I have nearly six months of accumulated leaves so I will go on terminal leave beginning Nov. 15.

It’s time for me to move on, but it’s important we transition properly and prepare our organization – and its new leader – for the challenges ahead.

Ging Reyes will be taking over as news head. She will be arriving in Manila on Oct. 18 to begin our transition. Home-grown ABS-CBN, she has more than twenty years experience as a journalist, the last eight years as North America bureau chief. Please give her your full support as she takes the helm of our multi-platform operations.

I want to thank you for six amazing, incredible years where we took risks together to help define the future of journalism and our nation. We decided to take a stand and say no to corruption; to embrace the growth of social media; and to join hands with citizen journalists to patrol our votes and our nation . Thank you for your trust and support, for following me even when I tilt at windmills.

Journalism faces challenging days ahead. Value and protect your editorial independence. I wish you clarity of thought, stamina, and courage to fight for what is right and avoid the compromise of mediocrity.

You have taught me so much about what it means to be a Filipino. While my time with this company is ending, one of the most precious things it has given me are our friendships, which I hope will continue to grow even when I’m no longer with ABS-CBN.

-Maria Ressa

More Than 100,000 Runners Joined The 10.10.10 Run for the Pasig River

Posted by JED on Monday, October 11, 2010 , under | comments (0)

In a powerful show of unity by Filipinos from all walks of life, Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig’s “10.10.10 A Run for the Pasig River” made history Sunday, October10, with 160,000 registrants and more than 100,000 actual runners to break all Philippine records on the most participants in a footrace.

The monumental fun run, which aimed to create awareness and raise funds for the massive Pasig River clean-up campaign, could also be the world’s biggest advocacy run.

I’m really happy that the run was peaceful and many showed up! It’s five times the attendance last year when 23,000 runners took part in the first Run for the Pasig River. Because of the huge turnout, some participants may have failed to walk through the manual counting chutes that were set up for the auditors to physically count the number of runners. We hope to address this next year by exploring other measures like the use of race chips,” ABS-CBN managing director Gina Lopez said.

Contingents from schools, religious groups, government agencies, the police and military, non-government organizations, business sector, and private institutions made up the enormous crowd that gathered at the run’s three starting points in SM Mall of Asia (MOA), CCP Complex, and Ayala Avenue in Makati.

Former Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos, accompanied by his wife Ming, fired the starting gun to mark the simultaneous opening of the “10.10.10 A Run for the Pasig River.”

Vice President Jejomar Binay, Mayors Alfredo Lim of Manila and Antonino Calixto of Pasay, Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Francis Tolentino, boxing king and Rep. Manny Pacquiao, evangelist Bro. Mike Velarde from El Shaddai, and presidential sister Ballsy Aquino-Cruz, were also there to show their support for the cause.

Binay reminded the runners that showing concern for the Pasig River does not end at the race’s finish line.

Maipagmamalaki natin ito bilang Pilipino. Pero hindi pa tayo natatapos dito dahil kailangan pa ding magtulong-tulong sa aktwal na paglilinis ng Ilog Pasig,” he said.

While Pacquiao described the river as a gift from God that we should protect, Aquino-Cruz likened Pasig River to an heirloom that has to be passed on to other generations.

Let us clean up the mess that was made before us. Pasig River is a symbol of hope and what the future holds for the country. If we manage to clean it, then we have done our jobs as citizens,” Aquino-Cruz said.

Although the run was non-competitive in nature, KBPIP still honored the top finishers of the race with nominal cash prizes and medals made by relocatees in BayaniJuan sa Southville 7 in Calauan, Laguna. They also made baller bracelets, which were given to all runners after the race.

Richard Sulaño and Keizel Pedriña ruled the male and female categories in the 3k race while Mervin Guarte and Mhe Ann Barcena took home the biggest prizes in the 5k race. Alquin Bolivar and Dalin Karmil dominated their co-runners in the 10k category.

Despite the heat, the crowd still stayed for the post-race program featuring bands Kiss Jane, Frio, 6 cyclemind, ABS-CBN stars like Luis Manzano, Karylle, Melai Cantiveros, Jason Francisco, Jovit Baldivino, Bugoy Drilon, and Studio 23 hosts Arran Sese, Alex Calleja, and Juddha Paolo.

DZMM anchor Winnie Cordero also hosted the 3k pre-race program with Paolo while ABS-CBN senior sports correspondent Dyan Castillejo joined Piolo Pascual and Zaijan Jaranilla in welcoming runners at the 10K starting point.

ABS-CBN Chairman and CEO Eugenio Lopez III, also showed his commitment to the Pasig River cause by joining the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police in the ceremonial 21K run, which kicked off from Marikina City.

ABS-CBN Foundation managing director Gina Lopez also recognized during the program the runners and the partners of KBPIP, including race organizers Eric Imperio, Rio Dela Cruz, and Thumbie Remigio for the Philippines’ newest achievement.

KBPIP aims to raise P10 million to P12 million in the run to start the clean-up at Estero de San Miguel, a tributary of the Pasig River. In 2009, KBPIP began dredging operations and relocation of informal settlers at Estero De Paco, which also flows into the Pasig River.

Lopez said in order to successfully clean the river, they must first clean the water that goes into it, and change the way people look at the river through events such as the 10.10.10 run.

'Idol' Gets The Axe

Posted by JED on , under | comments (3)

ABS-CBN's Kantaserye "Idol" starring Sarah Geronimo, Coco Martin and Sam Milby, has been cancelled.

The official reason why 'Idol' is getting the axe is because of the show's high production cost and not in anyway related to its low rating.

Eric John Salut said, "Idol was planned as a 10-13 week series. Due to constraints in production, schedules and difficulty in daily tapings till it's aired, the show will not be able to fulfill its full 10-week term on the air. We wish to say thank you to everyone who supported Idol."

For three straight weeks, data based on AGB-Nielsen Arianna, Mega Manila Individual Ratings show that TV5 has been winning over competition in the battle over weekend primetime ratings according to a report by the corporate communications department of TV5.

Last Saturday, October 2, the AGB Nielsen Arianna Megatam (Individuals) overnight ratings indicated that for all of primetime (6 pm-2 am), TV5 overtook ABS-CBN to become the 2nd most watched network. Based on the said reprt, TV5 had an audience share of 26.9% beating ABS-CBN's 19.9% and following GMA-7's 35%.

More notably, TV5's weekend triumvirate Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, Talentadong Pinoy and Midnight DJ was number 1 in the 6 pm-10 pm timeblock with a total of 30.6% audience share compared to GMA-7's 29.7% and ABS-CBN's 24.5%.

"We are very happy with our programs' high ratings and with the fact that more Filipinos are making the switch to see what the Kapatid Network has to offer them. It is evident that they like what they see, hence the rise in our viewership ratings. On our part, we at TV5 are committed to further explore all possibilities to provide the highest quality of service and content to our publics," shared Atty. Ray C. Espinosa, TV5's President and CEO.

Sharon Cuneta Will Train Aspiring Singers on 'Star Power' Starting Tonight

Posted by JED on , under | comments (2)

Megastar Sharon Cuneta spearheads the historic unfolding of her newest show, Star Power, Sharon's search for the next female pop superstar. It will begin airing tonight, October 10, after Going Bulilit on ABS-CBN.

Judged by acclaimed actor/director Edgar "Bobot" Mortiz, concert legend Mitch Valdes and R&B sensation/TV host Billy Crawford, Sharon Cuneta's Star Power empowers 20 young female hopefuls from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao to maximize their own potential, develop their talents and improve their skills. All of them undergo Sharon's rigorous mentoring, but only one can be hailed female pop superstar.

Meanwhile, Star Power co-hosts Pop Prince Erik Santos and Asia's Idol Christian Bautista shared in an exclusive interview how excited they are in their first-ever hosting of the talent search. It can be recalled that both of the singers were products of the talent reality search Star in a Million.

"It's like a full circle. Ngayon, kami naman yung nag-iintroduce ng mga bagong batch ng singers. It's a great honor and it's a privilege kasi, in a way, alam namin yung pinagdadaanan nila. Alam namin kung paano sila tutulungan at susuportahan," Christian said.

Star Power's premiere on the historic 10.10.10 also marks Erik's birthday. The Pop Prince expressed his gratitude not only for the hosting opportunity he got in Star Power but also for the happiness he has.

"My birthday wish is syempre, mataas na ratings ng aming show, ang Star Power. Siyempre parating good health, more projects... Ay, love life pa pala. Hahahaha. I want a love na magla-last," Erik said.

According to Erik and Christian, to become the next pop superstar like them, Star Power contenders must be strong, humble and God-fearing enough to face the challenges the music industry offers.

"Be prayerful. Being in a competition, tama nga si Erik, dapat maging humble ka. Show your best performance always. Kapag nandun ka na sa stage, competitors muna sila. Backstage, friends mo na sila ulet," Christian said.

If the 20 female contenders practiced painstakingly for their performances, Erik and Christian also prepared a lot in their talent search hosting venture.

"For this one, nag-research ako sa hosting ng isang contest like this one. Kailangan mo kasing magkaroon ng peg bago mo gawin ang isang bagay. At least meron kang paggagayahan, meron kang model. Binalikan ko yung mga episodes ng isang international singing competition. Tiningnan ko rin pati yung hosting sa Star in A Million before," Erik shared.

With hosts and contestants already geared up, Star Power is now ready to air on the Kapamilya Network's Sunday's Primetime block. Sharon's Search for the Next Female Pop Superstar starts airing tonight, October 10, after Going Bulilit at ABS-CBN.
