ABS-CBN Files P486-Million Law Suit Against Willie Revillame

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

ABS-CBN has filed a P486-million counterclaim damage suit against former Wowowee host Willie Revillame.

Atty. Augusto San Pedro Jr. represented ABS-CBN in filing the counterclaim before Judge Luisito Cortez of Regional Trial Court Branch 84 yesterday, September 16.

In its counterclaim, ABS-CBN says that Willie should pay P426.92 million as liquidated damages for breaching his contract with the network.

The Kapamilya network is also seeking P20 million each for moral damages, exemplary damages, and attorney's fees and litigation expenses.

According to reports, the 139-page answer pointed out that Willie was the one who "materially breached his obligations under the Agreement while defendant ABS-CBN fully complied with its obligations."

As a result, ABS-CBN has asked the QC RTC to dismiss Willie's complaint for judicial confirmation of rescission of contract with damages. It will be recalled that Willie asked the court to confirm the cancellation of his contract with ABS-CBN.

The TV host also asked for P11.5 million in damages from the Kapamilya Network: P5 million in moral damages, P5 million in exemplary damages, P1 million for lawyers' fees, and P500,000 for litigation costs.

In its counterclaim, the Kapamilya network cited several incidents wherein Willie violated his contract, which states that he must "not bring himself to public disrepute and jeopardize the success of Wowowee or defendant ABS-CBN."

The Kapamilya network noted his outburst on August 3, 2009 wherein he reacted strongly to the video of the funeral hearse of the late President Corazon Aquino being shown at the same time while Wowowee was being broadcast live.

Another incident cited was Willie's outburst on the May 4, 2010 episode of Wowowee wherein he threatened to resign from the show if management did not fire radio host Jobert Sucaldito. Willie alleged that Jobert had made harsh remarks about his noontime show and his contestants.

Another major violation was his August 15 appearance on Paparazzi, a television show of rival network TV5.

Willie Revillame Officially Signs Contract with TV5

Posted by JED on , under | comments (2)

It's official! Willie Revillame is now a full-pledged Kapatid star.

Despite some legal issues on his existing contract with ABS-CBN, nothing stopped Willie to ink a deal with the Kapatid network last September 7, and he is now about to start a new variety show titled "Willing-Willie" (see related post HERE) together with his former Wowowee staff and dancers.

Present in the contract signing were TV5 Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan, TV5 President Atty. Ray C. Espinosa and Willie's business partner Boss Vic del Rosario of Viva Entertainment.

Aside from Willing-Willie, he is also hosting another show on TV5 called "Born To Be A Star".

Here is TV5's official statement regarding Willie Revillame's contract:

Fans, supporters and viewers of popular host Willie Revillame will surely have reason to rejoice because their idol will definitely return on TV as a certified talent of the newest and most aggressive broadcast network in the country, TV5. Now an official TV5 Kapatid, Willie will soon be hosting a new variety and game show entitled Willing Willie on primetime which will surely endear him more to his legions of followers all across the country and around the world. The program is managed by Wil Productions Inc. and is co-produced with TV5.

"'In a contract signing held recently, TV5 Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP), welcomed Willie in the network's stable of growing talents. 'We have responded to the public clamor and we look forward to collaborating and working with the team of Willie and (Viva) Boss Vic del Rosario in bringing the audience the best in Philippine entertainment,' MVP said.

"Willie rescinded his contract with his former network after his lawyers settled the legalities of his situation and gave him the go-ahead to sign up with TV5. This is good news to all his supporters and fans who felt deprived when the host ceased to appear in his previous noontime show. Willie is undoubtedly one of the few local personalities with a huge worldwide following and TV5 is answering the strong clamor for his return with a new show that will feature him at his best-giving out oodles of prizes and cash to studio audiences and viewers everywhere.

"'It took some time for us to give Willie the go ahead to sign up with a new network because we had to meticulously scrutinize all the technicalities and legalities of the former contract. We wanted to make sure that his transfer will be as smooth as possible, without further legal drawbacks and hitches that can hamper his growth in his new network. With everything we've done and the actions that we plan to do, we believe that Willie is on the clear to work and grow anywhere he wants,' stated Willie's lawyer, Atty. Joel L. Bodegon.

"Willie's new manager and business partner, Vic del Rosario, reveals that the decision to join the Kapatid network was because of TV5's new management directions to bring quality program and excellent production on television. 'Willie's new show will undoubtedly bring joy to his legions of fans both here and abroad and will set the bar for primetime entertainment in today's television,' declared Boss Vic."

A Brand New Shaina Magdayao Revelead in PHR Presents: Alyna

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

Shaina Magdayao is ready to reveal her true self in her very first daring role beginning this Monday, September 20, on ABS-CBN.

Growing in public eye, the former child actress is embarking on the most challenging role in her 15-year-career in Precious Hearts Romances Presents “Alyna.”

Based on the pocketbook "Dominic" by popular romance novelist Martha Cecilia, the newest afternoon drama will revolve around the life of Alyna (Shaina Magdayao), a girl who grew up deprived of love. Eventually, she falls in love with Rex (Sid Lucero) but after they get married and have a child, Rex suddenly disappears and leaves Alyna distraught.

Lonely and vulnerable, Alyna falls in love with another man, Dominic (Jason Abalos) but things will soon get complicated when Rex returns in her life. Which man will she choose—the first man who loved her or the man who helped her recover from a broken heart and promised to love her forever?

Shaina, television's Princess of Hearts, revealed that it wasn't hard for her to accept the project even if it was a sensual material.

"As long as I believe in the project, in my director and my leading men, na hindi bastos yung kalalabasan, okay lang sa ‘kin," says the former child star.

Shaina is joined by her leading men Sid Lucero and Jason Abalos, two of the most-awarded young actors of today.

Sid said he immediately built a rapport with Shaina even if this is only their first time to work together. He said there were no awkward moments even during their intimate scenes.

"With Shaina, it's not a problem. We talk about how we would like to attack a scene. We remind each other na ‘I’m supposed to like you here," he explained.

Jason, meanwhile, is excited to work again with Shaina.

"Nakaka-excite kasi yung mga naka-trabaho mo noon, makakatrabaho mo ulit,” ayon kay Jason na proud sa naabot ng kaibigan," he said.

"Para kay Shaina ‘to. Big step ito para sa career niya," he added.

Shaina isn’t the only one going the daring route. Kaya Abad, also known for her wholesome image, is also making a big step in her career through "Alyna" by playing a very off-beat role.

"Acting wise, mas matured na yung role ko. May twist kasi yung character na hindi ko pa nagagawa sa mga nagdaang role ko. Doon ako nae-excite," shared Kaye

What twist and turns can we expect from "Alyna?" What important roles will ABS-CBN stars Paul Jake Castillo, Beauty Gonzalez, Charee Pineda at JM de Guzman play in the life of our very beautiful protagonist?

Directed by F.M. Reyes, "Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Alyna" starts on Monday, September 20, after "Rosalka" in ABS-CBN’s Hapontastic.

Meet Television's Newest Canine Hero in Bantatay

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Beginning Monday, September 20, television's newest canine hero – a lovable, frisky, and intelligent yellow Labrador – takes centerstage in GMA Network's newest original primetime drama about an extraordinary bond between a dog and his master, Bantatay.

Leading the dynamic pack of actors and actresses that make up the cast of Bantatay is action star-turned-comedian/celebrity dad Raymart Santiago, who will breathe life to the character of Bernard, a loving and kind-hearted father who works as a veterinarian. Bernard will experience an early death in the story but by a startling twist of fate, returns to life after inhabiting the body of a Labrador Retriever named Bantay.

In the beginning, Bantay serves as a guide dog to Joanna (Jennica Garcia), a spirited blind girl who lost her vision in an accident. Despite her handicap, Joanna is able to maintain a normal life with the help of Bantay and her Lolo Estong, who generously provide her with unconditional love and affection.

Sadly, their simple life turns devastatingly complicated after a fire burns down their house, killing Lolo Estong and injuring Joanna and Bantay. The rescuers are able to save Joanna, but accidentally left the poor dog behind. Bantay, determined to be reunited with his master, chases after the ambulance until it was no longer in sight.

Right at the same time, Bernard (Raymart Santiago), along with his wife Marcela (Gelli de Belen), and children Emily (Krystal Reyes), Junix (Renz Valerio), and Farrah (Sweet Ramos), is on his way home and finds Bantay in his weakened state. He brings the dog home, treats him in his small clinic, and eventually decides to keep Bantay until they find his real owner.

For months, Bantay faithfully returns to their old house hoping to see Joanna but after a while, he figures out that his new home is now with the Razons. Bantay grows particularly close to Bernard and becomes his constant and most trusted companion.

But their happy and peaceful life will turn upside down after Marcela mysteriously disappears one evening, a scheme orchestrated by their evil relatives, Vangie (Eva Darren) and Daisy (Camille Prats), who insists on claiming Bernard’s ancestral house.

After such devastating event, a group of masked men enters Bernard's house and shoots him in front of his children. Bernard will have a difficult time accepting his death and will give anything to have his life back.

By an unexpected turn of events, Bernard surprisingly wakes up to find himself inside the body of his pet Labrador, alive and about to set forth on a new journey as Bantatay.

Will Bernard be able to complete his mission before his new lease on life expires? Will Joanna ever get her vision back and in the event that she does, will she still come looking for Bantay?

Completing the cast are Gary Estrada as Simon, Marcela’s obsessive first boyfriend, Al Tantay as Rigo, Joanna’s uncle who owns a pet shop in Cartimar, Marissa Delgado as Clarita, Marcela’s materialistic mother, Carl Guevarra as Norbert, a pet shop employee who will later fall in love with Joanna, Elmo Magalona as Artie, Joanna’s co-worker and ally, Sheena Halili as Ming-ming, Joanna’s funny and dependable friend, Jessie Corcuera as Frankie, Bernard’s assistant in his veterinary clinic, Kier Legaspi as Bruno, Vangie’s alcoholic and lethargic son, Prince Steffan as Calvin, Joanna's wealthy suitor, Maybeline Dela Cruz as Lilian, Artie’s abusive mother, and Isabel Nesreen Frial as Len-Len, Artie’s little sister. The lovable character of Bantay will be played by a two-year old Lab whose real name is Charlie.

Directed by Don Michael Perez and written by Des Severino, Bantatay is certain to appeal to anyone from any age bracket as it provides a touching and inspiring interpretation of a father’s undying love for his children, and his special relationship with the so-called "man's best friend".

The show, which is conceptualized by RJ Nuevas, also inculcates correct animal treatment among viewers, especially the young ones, by imparting useful information on proper pet care through a special segment shown at end of each episode in partnership with the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).

Follow the amusing, exciting, and heartwarming adventures of Bantatay beginning Monday, September 20, before 24 Oras on GMA Telebabad.

Viewers in the United States can watch Bantatay beginning September 22; and in the Asia Pacific and the Middle East on September 23 through GMA Pinoy TV, the international channel of GMA Network.

Sean Kingston in New PETA Ad: "Chill With Your Dogs. Never Chain Them."

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Sean Kingston would never leave his canine pal Stella chained up outside—and that's why the reggae fusion sensation has teamed up with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Asia for a stunning ad. In the ad, Kingston and Stella appear together on a sofa above the words "Chill With Your Dogs. Never Chain Them." PETA is launching the ad in the Philippines to coincide with Supafest Manila 2010, a September 18 concert that will feature Kingston and other artists performing their hits.

In a recent interview, the "Eenie Meenie" singer talked about how dogs have enriched his life. "[M]y new dog, Sunshine - there's been, like, a huge chemistry between me and her. So I definitely would say [having her] in the studio … makes it a better vibe."

The ad reads, "Your dogs are your best friends, so keep them inside and make them part of the family. Because life on a chain is no life at all." Dogs who spend their lives alone at the end of a chain or inside a cage ache for companionship. They endure all weather extremes—from torrential downpour to sweltering heat—often without receiving adequate food, water, or veterinary care. Being chained also makes dogs fearful and aggressive.

Kingston joins a number of musicians and other celebrities—including Lea Michele of Glee, Twilight series actor Christian Serratos, Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington, and teen pop star Justin Bieber—who have teamed up with PETA to help animals.

Robin Padilla Marries Mariel Rodriguez Twice in Baguio City on September 13

Mariel Rodriguez and Robin Padilla tied the knot twice in Baguio City last Monday, September 13.

Jimmy Ong, who performed the one-and-a-half-hour first wedding ceremony, said the very simple private Mambunong wedding (from the Ibaloi tribe) ceremony started at around 3 p.m. at Camp 7 in Baguio City.

Mariel wore woven ethnic clothing while Robin wore a bahag during the native ceremony. Robin's youngest son Ali was present to witness the event.

Jimmy said he initially thought he was just attending a shooting, but was caught by surprise when he found the couple wearing traditional clothes of the Ibaloi.

"Tinanong ko si Robin kung kasal talaga ito. Sabi niya, 'Oo, kasal talaga.' Kaya sinimulan ko na," he said.

As part of the ceremony, Robin and Mariel put pig's blood on their faces, drank tapuy (rice wine) to symbolize their love for each other and performed the tayaw dance to show that they are officially married .

"Ang kasal na ito ay legal sa kultura ng mga Igorot....binasbasan ko sila na hanggang kamatayan magsasama sila," clarified by Jimmy.

Robin opted to marry Mariel in an Ibaloi ceremony because his mother, Eva Cariño-Padilla, is an Igorot.

The second wedding ceremony was officiated by a pastor in a private home in Baguio City right after their mambunong wedding ceremony.

Shaina Magdayao - John Lloyd Cruz Va-jayjay Lock Scandal, Not True!

Posted by JED on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 , under | comments (9)

Star Magic strongly denied the controversy involving their talents John Lloyd Cruz and Shaina Magdayao.

Rumor has it that Shaina and Lloydie were both rushed to a hospital 2 weeks ago due to a medical condition called "penis captivus" or vagina lock.

But in its official statement, the ABS-CBN talent arm said "reports of a couple 'stuck' together while doing each other and rushed to a hospital is obviously a hoax and the work of the sick minds."

"It is pitiful that some members of the entertainment press and public would want to lend credence to this piece of black propaganda. We laugh at this latest attempt to popularize our artists and pray for the souls of the perpetrators," the statement read.

Star Magic pointed out that, on the day the purported incident happened, both Shaina and Lloydie were busy doing their respective projects.

Taylor Swift - Kanye West Rematch on MTV Video Music Awards 2010; Both Artists Performed a Song They Wrote for Each Other

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards became a rematch between Taylor Swift and Kanye West.

One year after Kanye earned a widespread criticisms when he ambushed the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards to grab a statuette from Taylor's hands, the twosome once again found themselves in uncomfortably close encounters at this year's MTV event in Los Angeles last Sunday, September 12.

Not only that Taylor found herself in the company of the man that made her cry, she was also debuting a new song about him that she was terrified to perform.

Kanye, who apologizes to Taylor several times, even wrote a song for her about the entire stage-storming innocent and said he would perform it if she would not take it.

Taylor's song for Kanye, "Still an Innocent", was indeed very emotional.

"Lost your balance on the tight rope
It's never too late to get it back
Thirty-two and still growing up now
Who you are is not what you say
."

Kanye did not get the chance to make a terrible scene this time. However, he did get to react to the classy Taylor at the end of the show when he performed a new song "Runaway".

"Let’s have a toast for the douchebags
Let’s have a toast for the assholes

Let’s have a toast for the scumbags
Every one of them that I know
Let’s have a toast for the jerkoffs
That never take work off

Baby I got a plan, run away as fast as you can."

True Blood Season 3 Finale Episode Recap: Evil is Going On

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Before the break, we last left True Blood with Eric handcuffing himself to Russell. Outside in the daylight, they await the true death. Sookie wakes up and freaks out at the idea of Eric sacrificing himself and rushes out to save him with her fairy powers. She brings him inside and feeds him her blood. She really shouldn’t be just handing that stuff out in this situation. The best thing about this scene is the surprise appearance from Godric. He is just so cute I practically squee everytime I hear his accent. Godric urges Eric to seek forgiveness instead of hatred but Eric wants nothing of it. Eric tells Sookie to save Russell too so he can make him suffer a little longer. And boy does Sookie oblige. While all the vamps are napping, Sookie takes the time to put what’s left of Talbot down the garbage disposal. She looked like she enjoyed that.

It’s the next morning for Sam and Tara and Tara should know better than to act at peace. Sam surprises her with a breakfast of pancakes and the news that he’s a shapeshifter. I totally forgot she didn’t know about that. Tara isn’t a happy camper because supernatural things have messed up her life enough as it is. But then again, so have her fair share of humans. Let us remember her mother. She hacks off her hair and seems to go off to start a new life. I wonder where she’ll end up?

Sam is having his own problems. Everyone at Merlotte’s is scared he’ll freak out on them at any moment and his brother stole his safe containing all his money. Yikes. Sam grabs a gun and goes off to look for Tommy. He finds him and chases him through the woods where Tommy lets him have it for giving up on him so easily. All Sam wants is his money back but Tommy wants to know how he’s supposed to survive without it. Sam tells him to get a job, Tommy tells him he can’t read, and Sam raises his gun. Gasp. Tommy walks away sure that Sam won’t shoot. Gasp. Sam shoots. GASP!!

Hoyt shows up to work and sees his mama and Summer sitting in a circle with a therapist, ready to give him a vampire intervention. That woman sure is persistent. He tells them all off because nothing will get in the way of his love with Jessica. He puts down a deposit on a house and surprises her. He proposes to her and Jessica immediately starts remodeling the house in her head. Will their happiness be short lived? What was with the creepy baby doll foreshadowing? And will Hoyt’s mama use the shotgun she bought? Does it have wood bullets??

Lafayette isn’t having the same kind of luck in his life or his relationship. He’s still seeing creepy voodoo visions everywhere. Blood everywhere and Rene showing up at the bar. Not fun for him. Is it his background? It can’t just be from the V can it? Jesus shows up to calm him down and lets slip he’s a witch. Hmm. Well, that could come in handy I suppose. Jason’s storyline isn’t nearly as interesting. He goes with Crystal to tip off her meth dealing family and isn’t prepared when her crazy vamped up brother shows up. He shoots his dad in the head and leaves with Crystal who tells Jason he’s now in charge of the compound. Tough job.

Eric continues to ignore the adorable little phantom giving him advice and puts Russell in a large pit of concrete bound by silver. Eric’s logic is that he will have plenty of time to sit and suffer in his grief. But..couldn’t someone easily dig him out? Perhaps that’s leaving the door open for the actor to return and direct the weather. Bill turns up his douche meter and tricks Eric and tosses him in too. Oh no! He then calls up to have Pam killed as well. Oh no again! His next victim is the Queen as he tries to rid anyone who knows Sookie’s secret from the world.

Sookie is obviously upset at what Bill has done but really, she’s better off. Think how peaceful life would be. Sitting on your porch not wondering when a vampire will show up for your blood. However, Pam saves herself and Eric and Eric shows up just in time to ruin Bill’s master plan. He reveals Bill’s secret to Sookie; that the Queen sent him for her all along and Bill tricked her into drinking his blood. Sookie is devastated that her love meant nothing and goes to live with Claudine and the rest of the Fairies. Bye Sookie! Bill is feeling a bit testy and challenges the Queen with some Matrix style moves.

What did you guys think of the finale? What do you think will happen next season?

GMA Network Releases New Guidelines for Crisis Coverage

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

After a thorough review immediately after the coverage of the hostage crisis last August 23, GMA Network is releasing an improved set of ethical and safety guidelines for future crisis coverage. These elaborate on existing policies contained in the network's ethics manual.

GMA News and Public Affairs has said it is open to dialogue with authorities on how they can coordinate during situations such as the August 23 hostage crisis.

Below are GMA Network's revised set of ethical and safety guidelines for crisis coverage:

GMA Network ethical and safety guidelines for crisis coverage:

1. Exercise extra care in airing live interviews and live coverage during hostage and other situations that involve law enforcement operations that are risky to our field personnel, those involved in the incident (e.g., hostages and hostage taker), and the public. Always be aware that lives may be at stake.

2. In the event of live coverage, avoid revealing in video and audio the plans, positions, movements, weapons, and preparations of law enforcers.

3. Avoid interviewing or otherwise talking to hostage-takers, potential suicides, and other subjects of imminent law enforcement operations. Decline police requests to negotiate or otherwise mediate with the above except for extraordinary reasons and cleared with top management.

4. Never portray as acceptable the actions of hostage-takers, potential suicides, and other subjects of law enforcement operations.

5. Assume that hostage-takers and other subjects of police and military action are monitoring the coverage through television, radio, computer, or cell phone (via sms, web connection, or calls from others who are monitoring the coverage on other media).

6. Assume that regardless of demeanor of hostage-taker or gunman, he is unstable and dangerous, and may have intent to kill.

7. Assume that police may not be able to handle media or a crowd. Thus we must know when and how to restrain ourselves.

8. Assume that children will be watching so we must make an effort to avoid graphic speech and video that could be disturbing to the viewing public.

9. Explain to viewers why certain information is being withheld.

10. Avoid airing announcements of fatalities until verified by authorities on the record and/or notification of next of kin.

11. In coverage of any crisis involving law enforcement and rescue operations, coverage teams must use the appropriate protective equipment—including bullet-proof vests, helmets, gas masks, life vests, etc.

12. Assign professionals in our organization to focus only on the ethical, safety, and non-technical aspects of our coverage during crisis situations and give immediate feedback to decision-makers when the coverage threatens to violate our standards for safety and conduct. Safety officers and news managers can be deployed to check on the safety preparations of field personnel.

13. When possible, coordinate with the authorities when a crisis situation occurs, thus creating an opportunity for the authority to relay information vital to our safety.

14. Avoid unnecessary risks. The safety of personnel, the public, and those directly involved in the incident is paramount. No story is worth sacrificing lives for.
