Kapuso Stars Portray Heroes in GMA's Cinematic Version of "Lupang Hinirang"

Posted by JED on , under | comments (2)

GMA Network marks another historic landmark as it debuts a cinematic version of the Philippine national anthem, "Lupang Hinirang" featuring the brightest Kapuso stars.

This new theatrical version retells Philippine History through a succession of carefully-crafted and awe-inspiring reenactments of historical events from Lapu-Lapu's victory over Magellan's troops in the Battle of Mactan to the Filipinos' peaceful revolt in pursuit of democracy in the 1986 People Power Revolution at EDSA.

The new version, which was conceived from the strengthened corporate partnership between GMA Network and SM Cinemas, advances the narration of Philippine history from the standard versions released before.

According to the Director, Paul Ticzon, the team went through almost 10 months of meticulous research and preparation to shoot the vignettes.

"We went through this to be part of history. This two-and-a-half -minute version is something that all Filipinos could be very proud of. It strengthens one's nationalism when viewed," said Ticzon, who is also the AVP for Post Production Operations Division of GMA.

This project was done in close coordination with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, who recognized the Network's efforts to instill nationalism and patriotism among the Filipino people.

The Kapuso's visual adaptation of the national anthem carries vignettes of important events in our history. "Our version has an educational component. It reminds Filipinos to relearn history in a very cinematic way," shared Associate Creative Director Dong Tan.

The roster of Kapuso stars who played Philippine historical icons include (in alphabetical order): Aljur Abrenica, Marvin Agustin, Victor Aliwalas, Alvin Aragon, Bea Binene, Iza Calzado, Bodie Cruz, Dingdong Dantes, Gabby and Geoff Eigenmann, Mark Anthony Fernandez, Carlo Gonzalez, Carl Guevarra, Richard Gutierrez, Dion Ignacio, Paolo Paraiso, Enzo Pineda, Rhian Ramos, Marian Rivera, Arthur Solinap, Mike Tan, JC Tiuseco, Dennis Trillo, and TJ Trinidad.

They are joined by Ogie Alcasid, Heart Evangelista, Eddie Garcia, Jaya, Zoren Legaspi, German "Kuya Germs" Moreno, Regine Velasquez, Carmina Villarroel, Jillian Ward, and more; plus News and Public Affairs' pillars composed of Arnold Clavio, Mike Enriquez, Vicky Morales, Howie Severino, Jessica Soho, and Mel Tiangco.

Shot wholly in high-definition (HD) digital video technology, the national anthem is slated to roll on the big screens of SM across the country. It will also be a part of GMA's sign-on and sign-off messages marking the beginning and end of each day's broadcast.

SM expressed excitement over the launch of this new visual accompaniment to the century-old national anthem.

"With our partnership with GMA, we will be able to show the anthem in a different way. Before we just had audio, now we have a full production with GMA," said Assistant Vice President for SM Cinemas Allan Florendo.

Renowned film and television director Mark Reyes pitched the historical concept to GMA. "This will hopefully show and remind the younger generation what our heroes went through in history for our freedom. Being part of the Network that has played a role in the scheme of history, I am edified to push in an artistic way the Filipinos' passion for this country," Reyes said.

The GMA project team is composed of multi-awarded cinematographer Ding Achacoso (Director of Photography), Paul Ticzon (Director), Vince Gealogo (Co-Director), Ingrid Navarro (Producer) and cameramen Hanniel Aguilar, Javier Delgado and Paul Arrojado.

The whole campaign was spearheaded by the creative team of GMA's Program Support Department composed of Regie Bautista (Vice President), Dong Tan (Associate Creative Director), Alex Almario (Copy Specialist), Dennis Tiu (Art Director), Hasmin Marable (Senior Project Manager), and Minette Lopez (Project Manager).

Catch the Philippine TV premiere of GMA's cinematic version of the national anthem this Sunday, August 22 on Party Pilipinas.

"Anatomy of a Disaster" Begins Airing this Sunday Night on GMA-7

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

In the wake of a natural disaster, a multitude of questions, from "why did it happen?" to "how can it be avoided in the future," frequently arises. And despite the pressing urgency to educate people on matters of the environment, some concerns are still not properly addressed, if not totally unanswered.

Beginning Sunday, August 22, GMA-7, through Greenpeace advocate Richard Gutierrez, brings environmental awareness to television viewers as it unravels some of the most destructive natural disasters in our planet's history with its latest monthly documentary series titled Anatomy of a Disaster.

Considered to be a more comprehensive version of Richard's former infotainment show Full Force Nature, Anatomy of a Disaster features different stories of tragedy, survival, and heroism adapted from the international AOD series of the same title. Each of the 13 episodes provides a scientific and detailed account of various natural disasters such as volcanic eruption, flood, hurricane, earthquake, and climate change, among others, in both local and international contexts.

For its local component, Richard will revisit some of the most catastrophic calamities ever to struck our country through interviews with environmental experts, eyewitness accounts, and actual footages, and deliver his spiels entirely on location.

The pilot episode on Volcanic Eruption will take viewers on a trek to Mt. Pinatubo as Richard vividly narrates its earth-shattering eruption in 1990. The explosion, which resulted to the second largest earthquake recorded that year, claimed hundreds of innocent lives, and destroyed thousands of homes in Zambales and nearby provinces.

Realizing that readiness is key to survival, Anatomy of a Disaster also provides viewers with substantial information and practical solutions on how to respond to and prepare for future disasters.

Directed by Rico Gutierrez, the first installment of Anatomy of a Disaster airs this Sunday, August 22, on GMA-7's Sunday Night Box Office (SNBO).

True Blood Season 3 Episode 9 Recap: Everything Is Broken

Posted by JED on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 , under | comments (0)

Nan Flanagan shows up once again and brings the Vampire Feds with her to punish Eric for his indiscretions. If only they knew half of what he's done. The "Authority" takes Eric's statement about everything Russell has done. Eric's quest for revenge is now known to everyone. Pam must sense what I do in Eric; that he has little to live for..or as much as a vampire can live for, and his actions are becoming thoughtless. The feds however want nothing to do with the mess Eric has created. They're going to pretend none of it ever happened and encourage Eric to take care of Russell on his own. Off the books. Here we go.

I’m really not enjoying Jason's new storyline with this Crystal girl. I know she's probably something supernatural but either way, she's annoying me. And she's probably going to take Jason down with her. He's starting to piss me off with the lengths he's going to for this chick. Jason saves her yet again from her crazy boyfriend and ties him to a tree somewhere. This gets a fellow deputy killed and it's obvious Crystal is hiding whatever it is these people are.

Sam's brother is acting way out of character in this episode. At least for me. He's throwing loud parties with lots of nakedness and he's pissing off Arlene. Now that’s just dangerous. Arlene is an emotional mess and tells the new waitress (who's creepy and probably hiding something herself) that the baby isn't Terry’s. Aww. She encourages Arlene about other ways to “resolve” not having the baby. What the heck did she mean by that? Tommy's constant criticism of Sam letting people walk all over him finally gets to him. He snaps and beats the crap out of Crystal's hick dad who shows up to Merlotte's again. By the end of it he looks like a bloody bag of nothingness. Ouch. That's gonna have repercussions.

Tara goes to group therapy for rape and trauma victims and meets up with Holly. I wonder what she’s hiding. The group definitely gives Tara some strength and confidence in herself and you bet it comes in handy when she gets a shock outside of Merlotte's. Franklin shows up very much alive. I cheer but Tara isn’t as happy as I am to see him. He’s super angry and tells Tara that he couldn’t believe she didn’t appreciate his love for her. Tara tells him off with her new confidence and just when I think we’re about to get a great crying scene from Franklin, Jason shows up. Franklin bares his fangs undeterred but then Jason one ups him. Jason kills Franklin with a wooden bullet. Nooooooooooooo. Okay, I know he was a violent psychopath but he was my favorite. Sigh. Maybe Franklin and Godric can have a spinoff somewhere.

Sookie confronts Bill on the file he has on her. He looks visibly uncomfortable but seems to be truthful in what he tells her. Seems to. He tells her he collected information on her because he was curious why Eric was so interested in her. Whatever Bill. It all comes down to what Sookie is and why she has her powers. Will we find out this episode? Nah. But we got some clues. Hadley meets up with Sookie and takes her to see her son Hunter. Hadley begs Sookie to find out of Hunter is like Sookie. He is and can talk to Sookie with his mind. I guess whatever they are runs in the family. Hmmm.

Bill has one of those weird fairy dreams that Sookie had in the hospital. What triggers these? Is he having one because of all the blood her took from Sookie? Bill speaks with Claudine in the dream and apparently finds out what Sookie is. Naturally the scene ends there and we don’t get to hear. Anyone else kind of giggle when Bill tried to appear innocent to Claudine but then immediately bare his fangs? Fail.

Russell shows up on the 11 o clock news to kill a few reporters and avenge the death of Talbot. He lets the world know that vampires and humans coexisting is bullshit. Vampires are all violent and superior and things are about to get real. The war is starting.

Kris Aquino Answers Mrs. Annie Yap's Negative Comments About her

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Exactly one week after Mrs. Annie Yap's frank interview with Pia Guanio on Startalk (read related article HERE), Kris Aquino replied to Mrs. Yap's comments in an interview on The Buzz.

Kris says about her mother-in-law's interview: "Pinanood ng mga sisters ko, at siyempre noong pinag-uusapan nila, hinanap ko na din at pinanood ko. Siyempre, masakit. Lahat ng kapamilya, lahat ng kapatid ko, walang masama ever na sinabi tungkol kay James. Siyempre, tao din naman ako. Kung maririnig ko na never kang nagustuhan, siyempre masakit naman 'yon."

Nevertheless, she will not say anything that may ruin James's reputation, Kris says, for the sake of their three-year-old son Baby James. She says she is also trying her best to understand where Mrs. Yap is coming from.

"Iniisip ko na lang, dahil sinabi ni Ate [Ballsy] sa akin, 'Krissy, kung si Bimbi, kung nakikihiwalay, siyempre 'yan din ang magiging reaksiyon mo. Gagawin mo ang lahat to protect your son. Walang right, walang wrong. Ang tama lang, ang anak mo, 'yong mahal mo…' At para na lang sa anak namin, tatahimik ako."

Kris confesses that she was hurt by her mother-in-law's statements.

"Mapapanood po 'yon ng apo ninyo at some point in time kasi nasa Internet na.
