Eugene Domingo's "Inday Wanda" Premieres on September 6

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

With major blockbuster comedy films and TV shows to her name, Eugene Domingo is all set to star in her newest sitcom Inday Wanda, premiering on September 6, Monday, 8-9pm at TV5's Primetimes5.

Inday Wanda offers a perfect mix of comedy and fantasy and injects moralvalues to its viewers. "Siya ’yung masipag, puro ang pag-iisip [at] gustong makatulong. Sa mundo nila, alam nilang kailangan nilang proteksiyunan ang mga tao dito sa lupa. Kaya siya si Inday Wanda, wonder Wanda!" said Eugene.

The story is told by tracing back the battle between the ancient clan of shamans and demons. While the shamans existed to protect and serve the world of humans, the forces of demons are up for revenge after being forced back into their realm. The demons are trying to reopen the portal that connects them to the human world. Even with other shamans’ aversion, Guru the old shaman leader sends in Wanda to fight back and keep the demons from entering the world. Wanda, a cheerful, bubbly woman, rose from a simple cleaning lady and washerwoman to become the accomplice of that important task.

Although reluctant at first, Wanda passes a rigorous training to fit for the mission. She then adopts the human name Inday Wanda a maid to the household where the portal lies; equipped with incredible spirit and the ability to connect with people, plus a knack for outrageous fashion.

She serves the family of Daddy Lee, a handsome but reserved father to Toni; the teenage girl who is geeky and quiet. Upon Wanda’s discovery, Toni’s meek demeanor hides a secret that adds up a good twist on the show.

Aside from Eugene Domingo, the cast includes Ariel Rivera as Daddy Lee, and Ella Cruz as the teenage daughter Toni. Inday Wanda is the first project of Ariel Rivera after his reported transfer to the Kapatid Network. Other cast includes Alicia Meyer, Gene Padilla and Long Mejia. Cogie Domingo also acts a special participation as Toryo, the demon lord.

Inday Wanda is written by Dwight Gaston and directed by Bb. Joyce Bernal, and is co-produced by Unitel Productions.

James Yap was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the 2010 PBA Leo Awards Night at the Araneta Coliseum for an outstanding season put in better perspective for the personal strife he went through.

The Derby Ace prized guard came up with a sterling performance up to the semifinals of the current conference despite marital problems that became media’s staple as much as his hardcourt exploits.

The 6-foot-2 shooting guard out of University of the East thus joined the elite cast four-time winners Ramon Fernandez and Alvin Patrimonio, three-time awardee Bogs Adornado and two-time victors Abet Guidaben, Benjie Paras, Danny Ildefonso and Willie Miller.

"I’m grateful to those who believed in me. To those who voted for me, thanks for your trust and confidence," he added after getting the most important hardware in the annual season-end award.

James dedicated his latest MVP feat to his son Baby James whom he acknowledged "as the most important person in my life."

"He's my biggest inspiration. I haven’t seen him for a long while now. I miss him," James said.

James, the Derby Ace main man who averaged 18 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in the season, was the runaway winner in the MVP derby, amassing 2577 points as against Alaska's LA Tenorio's 1539 and San Miguel's Jay Washington's 756.

For the 28-year-old Negrense, it was a fitting ending to a great season that had him leading his team to the Philippine Cup title conquest and semis finish in the Fiesta Conference.

The "Jejemon" Invasion Kicks Off on GMA Network

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Beginning Saturday, August 14, make way for television's hippest and wackiest momma in "Jejemom", GMA Network's newest weekly comedy series that offers an exciting peek into the modern Filipino household in the age of texting, the internet, and the widely popular Jejemon phenomenon.

No less than award-winning box office comedienne Eugene Domingo plays the lead character of Gigi a.k.a. "The Jejemom", a single parent with an outrageous sense of humor. Usually clad in multicolored outfits while fiddling with her cellphone, Gigi juggles her time between her parental duties to only son G-Boy (Robert "Buboy" Villar) and younger sister Lovely (Jennica Garcia), and her responsibilities as the trusty barangay secretary.

Dysfunctional as they are, Gigi and her family manage to keep their humble yet happy household running. But their lives will turn upside down after Gigi receives a text message exposing the whereabouts of a certain Lady Gangsta, the leader of a notorious kidnapping syndicate, by mistake.

Gigi instantly reports the incident to Dindo (Wendell Ramos), the hunky policeman that Gigi adores so much, and becomes the star witness of the case. Her confession eventually led to the imprisonment of the kidnappers except for the mastermind Lady Gangsta, who now seeks revenge against Gigi.

In order to protect their identities, the authority decides to put Gigi, G-Boy, and Lovely under a witness protection program, which requires them to live in a posh suburban subdivision and pretend to be rich just like the rest of their new neighbors.

Ever the resilient and sociable Jejemom, Gigi slowly but surely wins the friendship of the Soccermoms, all except for Bunny (Gelli de Belen), the wife of the highly influential but dubiously masculine government official Winston (Ricky Davao). Bunny tries her might to destroy Gigi's reputation in the village and reclaim her crown as the Soccermom queen.

Can Jejemom keep her family safe from the evil hands of Lady Gangsta who might actually be closer than they imagined? Are Gigi, Lovely and G-Boy truly ready to kiss their former life goodbye?

Aside from shedding light on the jejemon culture, Jejemom, directed by Dominic Zapata and originally written by Denoy Navarro-Punio, also touches on significant topics such as motherhood, parenting, and neighborhood spirit - but with a quirky, comedic twist!

Completing the cast are Chariz Solomon as Yasmin, Gigi's kikay housekeeper, Carl Guevarra as Jhong, Lovely's internet-addict boyfriend, and Bayani Agbayani as Chief D. Marangya, the barangay chief of police.

The JEJEMOM invasion begins this Saturday, August 14, after Kaya Ng Powers on GMA Network.

For Pinoy TV Subscribers, JEJEMOM will air on August 15 in the Unites States and on August 16 in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.

Pulse Asia: Filipinos Say ABS-CBN is The Most Credible TV Network

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

When it comes to providing balance and accurate news, most Filipinos say ABS-CBN is the most credible TV network in the country as seen in the latest opinion poll of Pulse Asia.

Results of the nationwide survey showed 72% of the Filipinos believe ABS-CBN gave the most credible TV news coverage of the May 2010 elections. ABS-CBN scored higher than GMA, which had only 63% believing in its credibility and TV 5's 32%.

Pulse Asia attributed this high rating to ABS-CBN’s election-related programs such as the "Harapan" debates, as well as its multimedia campaign "Boto Mo, iPatrol Mo: Ako ang Simula" that educated and empowered the people during the election period.

"The public wouldn’t go to ABS-CBN if they don't find the network credible. They feel empowered thus, they text and send them their reports," said Pulse Asia Chief Dr. Ana Maria Tabunda in an interview with "TV Patrol."

"Nurse Jackie," which premieres next Thursday, August 12 at 9:30pm, is a series about a strong-willed, brilliant but flawed emergency room nurse working in a complicated and frenzied New York hospital. With its wicked dark comedy and awesome cast, the half-hour show quickly gained a large following in the U.S., and was immediately renewed for a second season after only one telecast.

Velvet Jetsets First Class With The "Fly Girls"

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Full-throttle careers, turbulent relationships, and non-stop fun, all at 500mph!

They work hard and they party harder, but there is definitely more to the fun and glamorous lives of flight attendants.

Find out how they deal with working 30,000 feet above ground while pursuing good times, adventure and love on "Fly Girls," the newest reality series to watch out for on Velvet (SkyCable ch.53).

"Fly Girls," which premiered last Wednesday, August 4, follows the lives of five charismatic flight attendants on America's hippest new airline: Virgin America as they jet from one glamorous location to the next including Las Vegas, South Beach and New York City.

Leading the pack is Nikole, a self-confessed accessory addict who sneaks in jewelry from airport security so she could wear them on duty. But despite taking all the time to get decked out before a flight, the group’s Paris Hilton-wannabe is never late for take-off.

Mandy, meanwhile, is your typical wholesome girl next door—the kind a man would love to bring home to meet his folks. Being a neat freak, she makes it a point to always wear slip-on shoes with socks in airports.

Tasha is the working mom of the group. In order to keep track of her child who's miles away at her hometown Sacramento, she never goes to work without her cell phone. Her motherly instinct shows in her favorite travel tip, which is "Don't forget your common sense at home."

Then there's Farrah, who is your stereotypical flight attendant. She's a blonde bombshell who always has a smile on her face despite the hectic cross-country flight schedule. She’s always pleasant to all passengers and to all the other flight attendants.

Finally, the last girl, Louise is the rebellious one. Though she displays a no-nonsense attitude, she’s still like any other girl who won’t dare go on a long haul flight without primping up herself up first with a lip balm and some moisturizer.

Living in one home-base they call the "crash pad," they only have each other to get through issues in romance, family, friendships and even roommate conflicts, as well as the split-second decision-making, demanding and sometimes fascinating passengers, long hours in the air and layovers in interesting locales at work.

Get a 360-degree look at their lives up in the air and in the places they visit on "Fly Girls" every Wednesday, 8:30pm on the country's premium general entertainment channel for women, Velvet on SkyCable Channel 53.

"Willie has no right to invalidate his ABS-CBN contract." - ABS-CBN Press Release

Posted by JED on Monday, August 9, 2010 , under | comments (0)

Only few hours after Willie Revillame announced that he is officially terminating his ABS-CBN contract (read related article HERE), the Kapamilya network immediately released an official statement saying he can't do that.

Here is the official statement sent by ABS-CBN:
We take note of Willie Revillame's pronouncements in his press conference today.

Willie is bound to ABS-CBN by a contract until September 2011. He violated the behavioral provisions of his contract when he threatened the ABS-CBN management during the May 4, 2010 episode of Wowowee, with a resignation if management does not fire another artist of the network. His behavior was generally seen as a display of disrespect and arrogance, completely unacceptable to the Filipino public.

As the one who violated his contract, Willie has no right to have it unilaterally invalidated. Contracts are binding agreements that must be respected by the contracting parties involved. The one who violates the contract cannot be allowed to dictate whether it should continue or end. Otherwise, contracts will have no value and may be terminated based on whim.

ABS-CBN is the aggrieved party, and as such, is the only one that can decide to end the agreement.

Despite all that had happened, ABS-CBN was willing to continue with the contract. Willie however, refused to take responsibility for his actions.

ABS-CBN wishes to reiterate that it will hold Willie to his obligations under the contract which expires September 2011.

"Oo, Merong nabuntis si James at alam 'yun ni Kris!" - Mrs. Annie Yap

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Mrs. Annie Yap, the mother of James Yap, speaks up and reveals important details about the separation of her son and Kris Aquino on Showbiz Central. Mrs. Yap said she decided to break her silence because she feels saddened by the tirades of Kris Aquino against her son. "Nalungkot talaga ako. Naawa ako sa anak ko kasi mabait ang anak ko."

Mrs. Yap revealed that Kris Aquino knew that James Yap had impregnated a girl, but despite that, their wedding still pushed through. "Oo, meron siyang nabuntis, pero alam naman yun ni Kris. Mas pinili niya si Kris kasi mahal niya. Pero hindi naman nagkulang si James sa obligasyon niya sa anak niya sa iba."

Mrs. Yap also said that she only learned of the marriage of James Yap and Kris Aquino after their wedding. "Nagulat ako kasi hindi (siya) nagpaalam sa amin. Ipinaalam (niya), tapos na ang kasal. Ina niya ako tapos hindi niya ipinaalam sa akin kaya nagalit ako." Mrs. Yap admits that she told James she does not approve of Kris, but not for anything else other than Kris Aquino has a different status in life. Mrs. Yap said Kris is rich and famous while they came from a poor background. "Sa totoo lang, nagsasabi ako ng totoo kasi di ako plastic siyempre. Kasi sinabi niya sa akin ni James na sila na raw. Tapos okay daw ba ako? Sabi ko sa kanila, siyempre Kris Aquino, sabi ko, 'No! Ayoko!,’ sabi ko sa kanya. 'So bakit, Ma?’ sabi niya. Sabi ko, 'Basta ayoko sa kanya. Sa totoo lang, tutol talaga ako kasi alam mo naman si Kris, di ba? Iba kami. Mahirap lang kami, sila mayaman."

Mrs. Yap denied Kris' allegations that James had extra-marital affairs with other women. "Once basketball player ka, sikat ka at maraming babae ang mag-idol sa iyo. Pero hindi totoo yan, hindi nambabae ng anak ko." She said James had denied to her that he had affairs through the course of his five-year marriage with Kris. "Tinanong ko siya, 'Totoo ba yun? Wag ka magsinungaling sa akin.' Sabi niya, 'Mama huwag ka maniwala, Hindi totoo 'yun' ."

Mrs. Yap also denied from what she knows that the couple usually ends up verbally abusive with each during fights. "Hindi. Alam ko ang ugali ng anak ko. Alam ko talaga ang ugali ng anak ko. Mabait siya at di siya sumisigaw. Kahit umuwi siya rito, hindi siya ganoon."

Mrs. Yap appealed to Kris Aquino to not blame all to James Yap the breakdown of their marriage saying it was not all the fault of James Yap, and that nobody is perfect, alluding to Kris Aquino. "Parang lahat ng kasalanan ay ibinubunton niya sa anak ko. Sana 'wag naman kasi hindi naman tayo perfect. Ang Diyos lang ang perfect. Kung may kasalanan ang anak ko, natural lang siguro sa mag-asawa na mag-away'‘di ba, pero 'wag naman niya lahat ibunton sa anak ko. Malungkot talaga ako. Naaawa ako sa anak ko."

She ended the interview with an appeal to Kris Aquino to thresh out whatever differences between husband and wife in private and not broadcast it to the whole world. "Sana, kung maghiwalay man kayo, mag-usap kayo, ayusin niyo sa mabuting usapan, kasi nasaktan kami sa dami ng mga balita."

True Blood Season 3 Episode 8 Recap: Night On The Sun

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

A now awake Sookie is ready to rethink her relationship with Bill. He's hurt her so much she doesn't know whether it's worth it to forgive him anymore. Well duh!, Sookie. Bill can't give her the life she deserves so they break up and everyone breathes a sigh of relief. Especially Tara who is still the voice of reason this entire episode. She may be going through stuff of her own but she's the only one who will call Sookie out on her b.s. and try to make her see reason.

Unfortunately for her it never works and Sookie still believes in Bill. Sigh. Tara is back at home but finding it hard to deal after what she's been through. She suffers the most common side effect of drinking vampire blood and has dreams of Franklin in the shower.

Bill goes back home reasonably depressed and finds Jessica happy to see him. As his maker he releases her but she's not having it. She doesn't want to be alone and thinks it's selfish of him not to train her to become a proper vampire. He teaches her some fighting techniques but seems a bit skimpy on the whole "when do I stop drinking before I drain someone" thing. She's gonna need those fighting skills because Russell and his werewolf minions are on the hunt for Sookie.

Back home Sam is dealing with his brother's attitude around Merlotte's and Arlene is dealing with her guilt about the real father of her baby. She dreams Rene is back and worries his blood will cause her baby to be like him. Guilt is obviously doing wonders to this pregnant woman.

Jason gets a surprise visit from Crystal who's all wet and hiding out from whoever gave her the massive black eye she's got. While she stays at Jason's, Jason goes off in search of her dad with a shot gun. He just thinks he's bad ass now that he's a baby cop doesn’t he? He walks in on some crazy guy eating a dead deer or something and freaks out. What are these people hiding?

Eric asks Hadley to deliver a message to Sookie. He's home alone with Talbot and warns Sookie that Russell is looking for her and that she should not trust Bill. Well, one of those is useful because we know she's never gonna give up on Bill. Debbie and her wolf friends invade Sookie's house. Each werewolf is met by either Bill or Jessica and Debbie goes to face Sookie herself.

Sookie doesn't use the shotgun but instead they kick eachother's asses for awhile. After slicing Debbie with some scissors, I finally think that Sookie is gonna pull the trigger but she lets her go.

Outside Bill is met by Russell who tortures Bill with a little silver and makes him suffer for awhile. Little does he know that back home Talbot is getting bored. He's alone with Eric and things get heavy real quick. Eric in keeping with his plan of revenge does what he needs to do with Talbot if you get my drift. Then, he grabs a makeshift stake and kills Talbot. Yikes. Killed in the middle of sex with Eric has to suck. You know what else sucks? This Sookie and Bill breakup. It lasted like two seconds. Once Russell leaves, Bill and Sookie get back together. It hasn't even been a day!

Young Sex Addicts on "The Correspondents"

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Kiko and Anna are just two of the 26 percent of Filipino youth aged 15-25 who have already had sexual experiences…

Kiko, 13 years old, has had sex with eight of his eleven past girlfriends while 15-year-old Anne is pregnant after giving birth to a lovechild just last year.

With this alarming fact, the Department of Education—despite heavy opposition from the church and some parents—has ordered public elementary and high schools to add more sex education classes.

Join Sol Aragones this Tuesday, August 10, as she sits in the sex education classes of different public schools to find out the thoughts and opinions of students and their parents about them.

Is it really possible to teach sex education without malice? Will sex education help lessen the number of youth engaging in premarital sex, or will it excite them more to do it?

Get the answers on "The Correspondents" this Tuesday, August 10, right after "Bandila" on ABS-CBN.

Kidnapper Points Gun at Sarah Geronimo's Dad Inside ABS-CBN Parking

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

A man posing as Sarah Geronimo's fan allegedly pointed an electric gun (stun gun) at her father, Delfin Geronimo while the singer-actress was still doing a show at ASAP XV.

The incident reportedly happened between 2 to 3 PM Sunday, August 8, 2010, at the Basement 1 Parking Area inside the ABS-CBN building.

According to Daddy Delfin, an ABS-CBN security guard contacted him, saying the suspect, a Paulino Mercado, had a gift for him to claim. Upon arriving at the basement, the suspect told Daddy Delfin that in order to collect the gift, he had to sign papers inside a van that was parked in a dimly lit area of the basement.

Once near the open van, Daddy Delfin said Paulino forcibly pushed him inside and poked a stun gun at him. Daddy Delfin fought off Paulino and screamed for help to which an ABS-CBN security group promptly responded.

The suspect was brought to Station 10 QCPD where he denied the accusation. "Wala po ‘yon. Gusto ko lang po matawag sa sasakyan... parang props..." Paulino said.

Authorities also recovered a tampered license plate and curtains that hung in the suspect's van.

"Tingin ko kidnap ito kasi kung na-paralyze niya ako sa pagkakakuryente puwede niya akong ikulong sa loob ng sasakyan. Tapos itatali niya ako sa cable tie. May cable tie siya. Hindi ko na alam kung anong gagawin sa akin. Maaring ipatubos ako sa pamilya ko," a tense Daddy Delfin said.

Paulino, however, denied he planned to kidnap Geronimo. He admitted that he only planned to rob him.

"Gipit lang po. Napilitan lang na gumawa ng hindi maganda. Hindi ko po kikidnapin… kung ano 'yong nasa katawan niya 'yon lang ang napag-interesan ko lang,"

Willie Revillame Officially Cancels Contract with ABS-CBN

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Just when "Wowowee" says goodbye on Philippine TV, Wowowee himself Willie Revillame also leaves ABS-CBN, his home studio for more than a decade.

"Nagpapaalam na ako sa ABS-CBN. Wala na akong kontrata." he confirms.

Willie said he is aware of the implications of his decision to officially end his contract with ABS-CBN. He said he cannot just sit idly and watch the death of his show. With regard to his next steps, he has yet to decide. His objective now is to move on and learn from his experience.

He also revelead that he had two meetings with ABS-CBN last July where it was agreed that he will return to Wowowee on July 31. But on July 20, he was surprised when Ms. Linggit Tan informed him that he is no longer returning to Wowowee. He added that he received a letter from Ms. Tan on July 26 regarding the cancellation of Wowowee.

To compensate, he was offered a one-hour weekly program as a replacement, which shall not be a live show but pre-taped, and not of equivalent importance to Wowowee. Without even thinking twice, Willie said he declined the replacement program.

However, Willie's lawyers, Atty. Ferdie Domingo and Atty. Nards Vera, say Willie, whose contract expires in September 2011, will neither sue for damages though ABS-CBN did not fulfill its side of the contract nor will pay damages. The two lawyers said that in this case, Willie could be considered as the "injured party."
