Toni Gonzaga Official Statement on Cancellation of Movie with Robin Padilla

Posted by JED on Saturday, July 10, 2010 , under | comments (2)

Toni Gonzaga's supposedly movie with Robin Padilla was canceled by its producer Star Cinema after 6 days of shooting. But Toni felt no ill-feelings towards the management of Star Cinema and rather take what happened as an opportunity to do better on her other projects.

"I have this ano, ugali na, when something doesn’t push through, hindi ako naghihinanakit, hindi ako nag-tetake ng grudge against anybody kasi alam ko there’s better things to come and maybe it wasn’t really meant to be. Ganun lang, everything works for good and everything happens for a reason kaya walang kailangang hinanakit or anything," she said.

She also posted a statement relating to this incident on her facebook fan page. Read below:

"Yes the movie will not be pushing through. Please tell everyone that is not the mgt’s decision. It is for the better and mgt has promised a better movie project for me. Walang kasalanan ang ABS, there is a bigger issue behind this. I know God has a better plan for me. He always protects me. Lets continue to be hopeful and positive…. God always has bigger plans than what we have for ourselves diba…. everything is a blessing in disguise….. God is good all the time… Love you all!!!! Wag na kayo ma hurt sa nangyayari… Everything will turn out well…. I trust the Lord…."

Denise Laurel and Rafael Rosell Star in Precious Hearts Romances Presents Martha Cecilia's "Midnight Phantom"

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

In celebration of its first anniversary, ABS-CBN's hit afternoon drama Precious Hearts Romances Presents features a premium and highly anticipated TV series that will surely capture the hearts and imagination of the viewers-- PHR presents Martha Cecilia's Midnight Phantom!

Based from the popular local romance novel authored by Martha Cecilia and directed by multi-awarded box office director Cathy Garcia-Molina, PHR presents Martha Cecilia's Midnight Phantom is topbilled by hunk model-actor Rafael Rosell and actress-singer Denise Laurel. Both Rafael and Denise starred in several PHR series including Bud Brothers, You’re Mine Only Mine and Substitute Bride. But Midnight Phantom is the first TV drama that will be launch them as an official loveteam, a milestone that their fans really celebrated.

PHR presents Martha Cecilia's Midnight Phantom is a story about love, passion, betrayal and vengeance. It revolves around the life of the mysterious radio DJ Brandon (Rafael) who is well-known to his listeners as the "Midnight Phantom." Full of twists and turns, viewers will be lured with Brandon's "scarred past" and his unique way of captivating women with his sweet words. Being famous, a beautiful college student named Nadja (Denise) falls in love with his voice and eventually would do anything just to meet this adored DJ. With this, it was easy for Brandon to convince Nandja to join him in the "Phantom Island," where a dark secret from the past will be revealed and will change their lives forever.

In an exclusive interview with Rafael and Denise, both expressed their excitement over the forthcoming launch of their first romantic-drama-suspense series together.

According to Denise, Midnight Phantom is different from the other PHR series that she did. "It’s not your typical love story. Dito, maraming istoryang patong-patong, even the characters themselves discover and are surprised with the things that are laid out in front of them. The viewers, especially the young people, should watch it because we can learn something from this to avoid committing mistakes."

When asked about their characters, Denise and Rafael shared that it's something that will catch the interest of the audience because of its peculiarity. "Si Brandon ay sampung taong na-depress. Meron siyang malaking scar sa mukha na nagpapaalala sa kanya ng kanyang madilim na nakaraan. Challenging 'yung role kasi Brandon's character is rough pero hindi bastos. He's careless and full of mystery,” said Rafael.

Denise, on the other hand, can somehow identify to her role as Nadja. "We’re both very malambing. But unlike Nadja who is naïve and well-protected, I grew up strong and very independent." Kwento pa ni Denise, naging madali para sa kanyang mahalin ang character niya dahil na rin sa tulong ni Raf. "Raf and I, we grew up as buddies since Ang TV days. At first, it was difficult to look at him as a leading man, and him to look at me as a leading lady since we knew each other for a long, long time. But it’s also because of that why we clicked. We work together as a loveteam. So we help each other out in days na puyat kami. We always guarded each other."

Also starring Charee Pineda, Jommy Teotico at Hansen Nichols, Midnight Phantom features critically-acclaimed indie actor JM de Guzman and seasoned actors Spanky Manikan, Beverly Salviejo, and Cris Villanueva. The TV series also highlights the special participation of Ms. Ina Raymundo as Anya.

Will love be enough to bury the painful memories of the past? Discover the secrets of the Midnight Phantom and be hooked with this one-of-a-kind dark love story that will change young afternoon viewing habit. Don’t miss the well-loved pocketbook novel-turned-TV series PHR presents Martha Cecilia’s Midnight Phantom, starting July 12, 5:25 pm, weekdays before Momay on ABS-CBN Hapontastic.

Baron Geisler, Stuck With 'Kontrabida' Roles?

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Without a doubt, Baron Geisler's acting is superb. He has proven his worth with his notable character portrayals in different movies and television projects but, is he really stuck on the other side of the story as he plays ‘kontrabida’ roles in almost all his recent projects?

"Hindi naman ako na-stuck. I’d rather think of it this way—my versatility is tested everytime kapag kontrabida yung role na ginagampanan ko. I find it more challenging talaga. And since ganung roles ang madalas na inooffer sakin, who am I to refuse lalo na if the story is beautiful. Siguro nagkakataon lang rin talaga na ganun. But I’m not stuck. I can be as versatile as I can," Baron detailed in an interview.

According to the director of Agimat presents Elias Paniki, Dondon Santos, "Walang dudang magaling na aktor si Baron. Effective siyang gumanap sa kahit anong role. Kaya nga marami rin siguro projects ang bata dahil mahusay."

Don’t miss the next episode of Agimat presents Elias Paniki this Saturday as Baron (as Alexander) and Jake (as Elias) battles it off on ABS-CBN after TV Patrol Sabado.

TV5 Uses Portable News5 Live Pack for News Coverage

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

TV5 introduced yet another innovation in live television news coverage during the June 30 inauguration of President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III with the use of the News5 Live Pack.

According to a report provided by TV5, the News5 Live Pack is a high definition camera and transmitter set-up that can be carried by a single cameraman wearing a regular-sized backpack. With this new equipment, TV5 is able to broadcast live, whether fixed or moving, from practically anywhere in the country using wireless broadband technology.

Using a News5 Live Pack, TV5 aired high-quality, live moving video as it followed the Aquino convoy from Times Street in Quezon City to the Quirino Grandstand in Manila. A separate News5 Live Pack showed then Vice President-elect Jejomar Binay inside the Manila Hotel as he prepared for the inauguration. Another News5 Live Pack carried live interviews from the crowd gathered in front of the Quirino Grandstand. All these plus other live broadcasts were accomplished without the use of old-style microwave vans and satellite trucks.

"Our News5 Live Pack puts us at the leading edge of TV news technology," said Luchi Cruz-Valdes, TV5 News and Information head. "We are taking the reporting of news as it happens, from where it happens, to a new level."

TV5 News Operations head DJ Sta. Ana added, "The News5 Live Pack gives us the ability to deploy news crews rapidly, and these news crews can remain highly mobile even as they are sending video back to base. These are things no other network can match at this time."

News5 Live Packs were recently sent to Batac, Ilocos Norte and Cebu City to cover breaking news stories. They are also used daily to provide live updates on the traffic situation around Metro Manila within the TV5 morning show Sapul.

Since the acquisition of TV5 by the Manny Pangilinan group, the network made use of new technology such as touch-screen monitors and virtual graphics. As part of its coverage of the recent automated elections, TV5 was also able to provide viewers with an analysis of the results because of its IT set-up and its tie-up with the Social Weather Station.

StarStudio Magazine July 2010 Issue Features John Lloyd Cruz and His Escalator Ride to Stardom

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

After his much-talked about 'confession' on The Buzz and The Buzz Magazine where he admitted that he and Shaina Magdayao are now officially together, John Lloyd Cruz makes another surprise revelation in a special issue of StarStudio Magazine.

John Lloyd revisits his pre-showbiz days in "Before They Were Stars", an all-star feature celebrating 18 years of Star Magic. Star Magic (formerly the ABS-CBN Talent Management and Development Center) is the network’s arm that is devoted to seeking out and developing would-be stars. Many of today’s major stars—including some who are now with the rival network—started out with Star Magic years back.

In this special issue, John Lloyd talks about how he was discovered on an escalator ride in a mall in 1997. "Nasa Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall kami dahil ‘yun ang pinakamalapit sa bahay ko and we were going to watch Magic Temple. Kasama ko yung dalawang kaibigan ko at may isang lalakeng sumusunod sa akin. It came to a point na umakyat kami ng escalator, tapos bumaba kami, siya rin, bumaba. It came to a point na naka-tatlong ikot kami at naka-tatlong ikot din siya. Hanggang papasok na kami sa moviehouse at nagpakilala siya. Napaka-pleasant niya. Reggie Picayo ang pangalan niya, and he was my discoverer."

Three days after that encounter, Picayo called John Lloyd's parents and asked if they would allow their son to join show business. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Aside from John Lloyd, also featured on StarStudio Magazine are some of the country’s most talented and bankable stars including Piolo Pascual, John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo, Kristine Hermosa, Diether Ocampo, Sam Milby, Angelica Panganiban, Shaina Magdayao, Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu. Learn more about the stars’ early struggles, how they were discovered, and how they rose to stardom and captured the hearts of Filipinos worldwide.

A must-have for every fan, StarStudio Magazine presents over 100 exclusive pre-stardom photos of Piolo, John Lloyd, Bea, Tin, Diet, Sam, Angelica, Shaina, Gerald, Kim, Jake Cuenca, Erich Gonzales, Enchong Dee, Melissa Ricks, Rayver Cruz, Roxanne Guinoo, Matt Evans, and Zanjoe Marudo.

Tanya Markova Launches Self-titled Debut Album

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Tanya Markova, a band composed of Norma Love (Harlon Agsaoay), Iwa Motors (Gel del Pilar), Mowmow (Pipoy Alejandro), Heart Abunda (Jasper Borbajo), Rufa Mae Milby (Edu Broce), Rez Curtis (Rhan Sabas), Skrovak Iskopano (Kix Chavez), and Jennylyn Sucaldito (Kid Guevarra) is a walking contradiction. A band whose irreverent humor easily brings to mind Pinoy rock acts of the '90s and whose fondness for wearing make-up along with costumes bring back images of Alice Cooper, Bob Dylan circa 1975, Marilyn Manson and Kiss.

But all the comparisons end there. What's interesting about the up-and-coming band is that you'll be lured to think that you got them all figured out only to reconsider at the last minute after digesting the music.

The band calls their brand of music as "shock rock," which is quite an understatement given the group's impressive ability to mesh various genres with obvious ease and precision. Even more impressive is their knack for concocting catchy pop melodies weaved with dark nonsensical lyrics that are entertaining nonetheless.

"Teacher, teacher ako si Linda Blair / and the ghosts are everywhere / I can feel it in the air..." says the chorus of the song "Linda Blair."

"MIM" on the other hand resorts to witty wordplay to make fun of the dreaded mananggal: "Alma Concepcion slow motion pahid lotion na may potion / Alma Concepcion evolution transformation with emotion..."

Radio listeners and music video channel enthusiasts by now are familiar with the words "...Lagot ka na ang kamera may mahika / ano ang lohika kung ba't nahilo ka / mekaniko si Moniko ng makina ni Monica..." lifted from the single "Picture Picture"

It was a tricky route to take musically and artistically but it worked perfectly for the boys of Tanya Markova.

The band's self-titled debut album is under MCA Music Philippines with Jonathan Ong and former The Youth bassist Robert Javier sharing record producer credits.

Songs included in the album are:

1. Radio Inferno Intro
2. MIM
3. Disney
4. Picture Picture
5. Mag-Exorcise Tayo
6. Linda Blair
7. Psst
8. Hoy! Bampira Ako (Takot Ka Na?)
9. Bye Bye Mosquito
10. Sentimental Value
11. Jacuzzi
12. Reunion of Soul
13. Curfew
14. P.A. Roadie Fernandez
15. Nay Sama Ko
16. (a)Ninong
17. Disney Reprise
18. Psst Psst
19. Riot sa LRT
20. Radio Inferno Sign Off

"Sinadya namin talaga na iba iba 'yong genre kasi gusto namin makuha 'yong buong side ng audience," said del Pilar during the press launching held recently at Capones in Makati City.

"May mood swings kasi 'yong album," added Guevarra. "Depende rin sa mood ng tao kung ano 'yong gusto niyang pakinggan. So 'yon yung gusto naming iparating na hindi lang nagsi-stick sa isang formula."

Although the band's humor both onstage and record is an added attraction, Tanya Markova's unique music speaks loudly of innovation, promise and freshness—three key ingredients somewhat missing in today's mainstream local rock scene.

NEWSFEED: Lindsay Lohan Sentenced to 90 Days in Jail

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

ABS-CBN Insider: ABS-CBN will present the newly reformatted "The Buzz" starting this Sunday, July 11. Kris Aquino will be replaced by Charlene Gonzales and Toni Gonzaga. Co-hosts Boy Abunda and KC Concepcion will stay but Phoemela Barranda and Jobert Sucaldito will be assigned as field reporters.

Funfare, RFL: Kris Aquino (who is set to leave on Thursday night for a much-delayed vacation in the US with son Baby James) and James Yap (who has left the couple's conjugal home and moved to a bachelor’s pad) received an unsolicited advice from Dr. Randy Dellosa (in photo above), showbiz psychologist and relationship counselor:
"Kris and James should go into counseling for them to own up to their faults, have a civil, respectful relationship, re-establish their friendship, accept each other and hopefully, restore that feeling of love.

Then and only then, can their wounds start to heal.

Kris and James can restore the feeling they had for each other when they got married in hush-hush rites in 2007. Kris is still hurting from James’ past wrongs. But they can at least be friends for the sake of Baby James and their family.

James’ statement about sticking it out with Kris is borne out of fear and convenience. But should James stand by his decision, Kris should learn how to fight fairly.

By fighting fairly, I mean focusing on behavior, not character and not digging up the past and resorting to insults. It’s good to separate and cool off first in order to get back and resolve issues.

Separation is useless if the intense emotions are unguided. The problems may return all over again."

LA Times: Troubled star Lindsay Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in jail by Beverly Hills judge after she failed to attend alcohol education classes which is a violation in the terms of her probation in a drunk driving case.

Judge Marsha N. Revel stated several instances over the last few years in which the actress lied about taking drugs and drinking.

"It’s like someone who cheats but doesn’t think it’s cheating if they don’t get caught," Revel said.

DJ Mo: Pia Guiano denies, through text message, her rumored break up with Vic Sotto. When asked if the rumor is true, Pia simply said, "No!"

MJ's Big Blog: Ryan Seacrest and his production company are teaming up with "world-renowned" therapist, Paul McKenna to produce a television show, tentatively named, "The Incurables".

Each episode features McKenna going into the homes of two incurable people with different psychological and/or physical condition. Cameras will capture the drama as the therapist works tirelessly and aggressively to save their lives.

Some of the phobias under consideration: Agoraphobia, (fear of leaving the house), Social Disorders (inability to socialize or "fit in"), compulsive shopping and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Casting is now ongoing. If you have a serious phobia and are interested in participating in the show, call 323-463-3340.

"Noah" Starring Piolo Pascual and Zaijian Jaranilla Will Bring Televiewers To a Whole New Viewing Experience

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

A well-crafted story. A formidable cast. Highly-acclaimed directors. Hardworking staff and crew. World-class artistry. ABS-CBN has dreamt of fusing all these factors in one drama series.

And yes, it has finally come true as the said network brings the kapamilya viewers into a higher notch of television viewing via "Noah", premiering on July 12.

A story arced on love and family, Noah is topbilled by the country’s Ultimate Heartthrob Piolo Pascual and ABS-CBN’s miracle boy, Zaijian Jaranilla. According to one of the directors of the series, Lino Cayetano, both are very much suited for their character.

"It was perfectly woven for Piolo and Zaijan. Mararamdaman mo yung chemistry nila as father and son. And dahil may chemistry na, napadali ang trabaho ko bilang direktor dahil hindi na kailangan ipilit," Direk Lino shared.

After the hit primetime series May Bukas Pa, Zaijan is set to play a "lost" boy who grew up with the Ungtas, a group of ape-like beings.

Paired with Piolo is one of the most beautiful faces in Philippine showbusiness, Kristine Hermosa. Piolo and Kristine’s last project together was "Komiks presents Mars Ravelo’s Nasaan Ka Maruja?" where Piolo had a special appearance. Their reunion in Maruja filled in their 10-year hiatus away from each other after "Sa Sandaling Kailangan Mo Ako".

"When I learned that I’ll be working with PJ (Piolo) dito sa Noah, natuwa ako siyempre. Noong sa Maruja kasi special appearance lang talaga siya so hindi kami nagkasama ng matagal," Kristine expressed.

Other cast members included in the series are: Cherry Pie Picache, Nonie Buencamino, Jolo Revilla, Ana Capri, Joem Bascon, Melissa Ricks, Renzo Cruz, Baron Geisler and Jodi Sta. Maria.

On the other hand, Noah also boasts its unique set–a warehouse customized to look as a forest and home of the Ungtas. However, some of the scenese are still taken in Subic.

Sure to take you into a euphoric viewing experience, the story of Noah zeroes in Gabriel’s (Piolo Pascual) search of his missing son, Jacob (Zaijan Jaranilla). His travails lead him into a mysterious island called Noah where he eventually sees his lost son whose name is now Eli. Along the way, Gabriel also encounters the Ungtas and Eva (Kristine Hermosa).

Get ready for a whole new viewing experience as ABS-CBN takes you to the island of "Noah," directed by Malu Sevilla and Lino Cayetano, starting July 12.
