GMA Network CEO Felipe Gozon Receives Business Excellence Award from BNA

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

GMA Network Chairman, President and CEO lawyer Felipe Gozon was recently named one of the 2009 Business Excellence Awardees by leading business magazine BizNews Asia (BNA).

Felipe Gozon, among the first to receive the honor, was cited for his overall management excellence, after transforming GMA Network into the ‘largest television station in the country. Gozon was responsible for increasing the network’s net income by more than 10-fold since assuming office in late 2000.

He was also cited for 'enriching the lives of Filipinos everywhere with innovative programming, quality entertainment, responsible delivery of news and information and unfailing commitment to public service.'

The BNA Business Excellence Awards are given to companies 'in recognition of the excellence of their products or service and business model.' Guest of honor President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo presented the award to Gozon and other winners.

"GMA Network’s success as a company is the result of our continuing effort to live by our corporate mission, vision and core values. I am glad that our efforts to serve the public are being recognized by prestigious organizations here and abroad, including BizNews Asia," Gozon said.

Ka-Shake TV5 is Giving the Kapamilya and Kapuso TV Networks a Strong Competition

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

With telecom magnate Manny V. Pangilinan at the helm, TV5 is determined to give ruling networks ABS-CBN and GMA-7 a good strong competition. The station is on a recruitment mode, luring talents from the top two networks. First, Paolo Bediones, from GMA-7, and now according to source, might be Willie Revillame's turn. An executive position is also being offered to Roselle Monteverde, daughter of Regal Films' Mother Lily Monteverde.I. Also being eyed is a popular ABS-CBN showbiz field reporter. The baits: better pay, better future and better working conditions.

From way back, even during the time of Edward Tan and then Tonyboy Cojuangco, TV5 has been coming up with innovative shows later reinvented by other channels. GMA’s top-rating gag show Bubble Gang started as Tropang Trumpo on TV5 (then known as ABC 5), and so did Eezy Dancing that inspired ABS-CBN to put up Keep on Dancing (hosted by Dayanara Torres who was later replaced by Charlene Gonzalez) and is back on TV5 as Shall We Dance? hosted by Lucy Torres.

TV5’s Talentadong Pinoy, hosted by Ryan Agoncillo, seems to have given the two top networks an idea to come up with their own versions, Showtime (ABS-CBN) and It’s Showwwtime (GMA). Even Pinoy Records, also on GMA hosted by Chris Tiu and Manny Pacquiao, has adapted the Talentadong Pinoy format.

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

ABS-CBN boasts of another star-studded event with its annual Christmas Special which airs on December 13, 10pm on Sunday’s Best.

With themes covering the past tragedies in the country, the coming election and the Filipinos ‘bayanihan’ to name a few, the night opens with a powerful and soulful performance by some of the country’s most talented singing sensations who rendered Christmas songs. Also carrying the message of nationalism, Kapamilya stars belted out the song 'Ako ang Simula.'

One of the country’s most hilarious duo, Tito Bhoy and Krizzy also made an appearance as they introduced the industry’s hottest love teams and love triangles followed by an appearance of the real Boy Abunda. There was also a video for selected special ‘heroes,’ ordinary people who saved lives during typhoon Ondoy despite their own limitations. Lightening the mood, various comediennes offered tons of laughter while giving advice on the to-dos when there’s a storm

With a special 'May Bukas Pa' production number, ABS-CBN launched the face of 60 years of soap opera – Judy Ann Santos for her newest series ‘Habang May Buhay’ – followed by sneak peeks of the newest teleseryes to look forward to in 2010. A true blue Kapamilya special, various stars caroled the night away with Pinoy Christmas songs plus a special song and dance tribute for the King of Pop. Star Magic talents also shined with their very own production number while the Kanto Boys brought the house down with their never ending quirkiness. The night ended with an inspirational message by the one and only King of Comedy, Dolphy.

ABS-CBN Chairman and CEO Gabby Lopez, ABS-CBN President Charo Santos Concio as well as other network executives graced the night.
