Posted by JED on Friday, October 16, 2009 , under | comments (1)

Dingdong Dantes will star as Andong Agimat in the big screen adaptation of the graphic novel "Ang Mundo ni Andong Agimat".

"Ang Mundo ni Andong Agimat" is a popular graphic novel by prize-winning author/illustrator Arnold Arre. Tony Gloria of Unitel Pictures has bought the rights to adapt the comic character into television or the big screen.

The movi
e adaptation of the action-fantasy graphic novel will be directed by Mark Reyes for Viva Films, Unitel Pictures and GMA Films.

The original choice of Tony Gloria for the title role was Robin Padilla but the former Kapuso star signed a movie deal with Star Cinema. Dingdong Dantes took the role afterwards.

Marian Rivera was supposed to be Dingdong’s leading lady in "Andong Agimat" but she begged off due to her busy schedules in Darna. Rhian Ramos, Dingdong’s leading lady in Stairway to Heaven, took the role.

Andong Agimat has an estimated budget of P50 million and targeted to be screened at the American Film Market, running from Oct. 31 to Nov. 7, 2010 in Santa Monica, California.

Nina is The First Female Artist to Receive Diamond Record Award

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Nina's third album "Nina Live!" already sold an incredibly 200,000 copies after its released on February 25, 2005 making Nina the first Pinoy Female singer who was awarded with a Diamond Record Award.

"Nina Live!" consists of love songs from the 1970s to the 1990s, all of which Nina has covered live. After a week from its commercial release, the album reached Gold record and Platinum after three weeks. It is considered to be the biggest-selling album by a female artist in the Philippines, which reached a certification of 10x Platinum (Diamond). It is also the fourth biggest selling album of an OPM artist, only behind Eraserheads' Cutterpillow (10x Platinum) and Jose Mari Chan's Christmas In Our Hearts (20x Platinum) and Constant Change (10x Platinum).

The award was absolutely a big feat considering the rampant music piracy here in the Philippines making any artist so difficult to achieved even a gold record status.

In an interview, Nina said "Sobrang overwhelming, sobrang saya. It’s just like a dream… Siguro, ito ‘yong pinaka-favorite ng lahat ng tao, that I sing live. Siguro kaya nagustuhan nila, kaya tinangkilik nila ito. Sobrang big achievement for me."

The award was handed to Nina last Sunday on ASAP '09.

Gay Lover and Married Couple Face Tough Tasks on "PBB Double UP"

Posted by JED on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 , under | comments (1)

"Pinoy Big Brother Double Up" is only in its first two weeks, but the housemates seem to be having a hard time with their personal tasks.

New housemates Rob and TransPinay Rica were challenged by Big Brother to make their housemates believe that they are lovers. Their subtle and intentional slip-ups induced curiosity among other housemates, like taking a shower together.

The two seem to be winning the challenge, but Big Brother recently leveled-up the task. The new challenge: Rob to propose to Rica. Though shocked and embarrassed, Rob courageously took Kuya’s new challenge.

On the other hand in House B, real-life couple Kath and Jimson had to temporarily separate as Kath was tasked by Big Brother to pretend that she is married to Patrick.

The past few days had been emotionally tough to manage for Kath and Jim, especially when Big Brother had Kath and Patrick celebrate their "anniversary" with Jimson as their waiter. The houseband had already been dying to get close to his wife, secretly trying to get a hug at times. Meanwhile, mock husband Patrick, was missing his own wife too, who was left in the outside world. Their housemates, clueless of the task, meanwhile, adored the "romance" between the fake couple.

Jimson’s couldn’t contain his yearning for his wife and had a heated exchange with her in an attempt to express his feelings. Jimson showed signs of giving up and eventually admitted to the group that he is Kath’s real life husband.

Will the housemates continue to fight, or will they finally give in to their emotions? Get a glimpse of the latest events tomorrow afternoon (Oct 15) with Mariel Rodriguez in "Uber," after Banana Split. Get the full story on "PBB Double Up" on Primetime Bida with Toni Gonzaga after "Dahil May Isang Ikaw," and more news with Bianca Gonzalez on "PBB Double UPLate" after midnight.

Mig Ayesa, Fil-Aussie finalist in the US reality show Rockstar:INXS, created a heartwarming song titled "United As One" for the victims of typhoon Ondoy.

Mig, a London and Sydney theater actor-singer-turned pop/rock performer, is currently in New York where he took part in a major benefit concert called BANDing2gether for the Ondoy Relief Fund held last Sunday, Oct. 11, at St. John School Auditorium in Jersey City, New Jersey, with New York’s eight leading Fil-Am bands and other local artists. The concert was presented by MPE Productions in cooperation with Ayala Foundation USA.

Here’s what Mig has to say about United As One:

"I just wanted to share with you a song I am sending to use to help raise funds for the victims of Ondoy in the Philippines. Please bear in mind this is a demo, recorded at home, using my very limited studio and playing all the instruments. I hope people can pick up this song and use it as an anthem for the relief efforts and also use it to raise much-needed funds. Any help or ideas you may have to get it to the right people would be very much appreciated.

"The world has seemed to forgotten what is still such a painful and drastic situation. I hope this song will inspire people to act and give hope."

Kapatid, Kaibigan, Kababayan
(Sibling, friend, countrymen)
Kapatid, Kaibigan, Kababayan
Kapatid, Kaibigan, Kababayan
Kasama mo ako
(I am with you)
Kasama mo ako

I hear you calling out my name
And I can't just ignore what you're saying
I see you falling from the pain
And I'm feeling the way that your hurting
You're my brother, sister don't you cry
I'll be there by your side to hold you up
Though you never thought this would matter
I'll never leave you alone

So hold on tightly, hang on I'll be
There by your side and we'll battle the tide together...
(Magkasama)
Together...
(Magkasama)
Don't be scared we'll
Soon be where we
All want to be as we stand here united as one.

Pag langit ay du-mi-di-lim
(When dark clouds leaves you in despair)
And the rain seems to fall down forever
At buhay ay uma-aah-sim
(When life is just too much too bear)
And you can't feel the break in the weather
You don't have to worry
I'll help you carry on
Through the eye of the storm we're holding on
The day's dawning, feel the sun warming
Healing you, keeping you strong...

So hold on tightly, hang on I'll be
There by your side and we'll battle the tide together...
(Magkasama)
Together...
(Magkasama)
Don't be scared we'll
Soon be where we
All want to be as we stand here united as one.

Kapatid, Kaibigan, Kababayan
Kapatid, Kaibigan, Kababayan

You are my brother, sister, mother
I'll be there by your side to hold you up
I'll be by your side...

So hold on tightly, hang on I'll be
There by your side and we'll battle the tide together...
(Magkasama)
Together...
(Magkasama)
Don't be scared we'll
Soon be where we
All want to be as we stand here united as one.

We stand as one...

Kapatid, Kaibigan, Kababayan
Kapatid, Kaibigan, Kababayan
Kasama mo ako
Kasama mo ako.

Sunshine Dizon, Pregnant?

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Is Sunshine Dizon pregnant?

After her sudden withdrawal from her afternoon soap Tinik Sa Dibdib (rumors has it that Nadine Samonte already replaced her) and her decision to decline a judging stint in the upcoming Starstruck Season 5, Sunshine Dizon is said to be on an expecting stage. Her non-showbiz boyfriend who happens to be Tanya Garcia's brother is said to be the culprit.

However, Sunshine's camp said that the young actress might take a vacation abroad and stay with her father because she’s bumping heads with her over-protective-stage mother. A good enough alibi, don't you think so?

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Star Magic has successfully staged a charity fashion show called "Magic For A Cause" on October 12 at the Studio 10 of AVS-CBN to help the victims of typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng that recently struck the Philippines.

Kapamilya stars became models for a night for the A-list of designers who showcased their creations to the invited guests.

Piolo Pascual, who did the finale with actress Gretchen Barretto, said it was a blessing to be part of such cause-oriented event.

He related, "I think being part of Star Magic, we were able to come up with our show to promote, of course, 'yong relief operations ng ABS-CBN. We were able to gather donations from our endorsersments, from our sponsors. I guess it served its cause. It's nice to be part of the very meaningful event."

In a separate interview, Sam Milby said almost the same thing about working together as a "family" to help the victims of typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng. "It's a family effort to help out 'yong mga kababayan natin in need. I'm very happy about the outcome, of course. We raised over three million, so maraming families that we were able to help out with this show," he said.

Other Kapamilya stars who wore the designer's collection for this charity event were Diether Ocampo, Bea Alonzo, Pokwang, Chokoleit, Erich Gonzales, Angelica Panganiban, Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, Rafael Rosell, and Shaina Magdayao.

Matt Evans, Robi Domingo, Enchong Dee, AJ Perez, Dino Imperial, Kian Kazemi, Xian Lim, Guji Lorrenzana, and Joem Bascon graced the event by wearing fasionable men's apparel.

Malaysian actress Carmen Soo joined local female celebrities, like Melissa Ricks, Megan Young, Dimples Romana, Dionne Monsanto, Cassandra Ponti, Wendy Valdez, and Maricar Reyes, to name a few.

Singers Jed Madela, Laarni Lozada, and Richard Poon also shared their talent to entertain the guests while fashion models did their thing on the catwalk.

Meanwhile, the fashion designers featured in this event were Inno Sotto, Randy Ortiz, Joey Samson, Francis Libiran, Black Label, Patrice Ramos-Diaz, Oskar Peralta, Bang Pineda, Lulu Tan Gan, Cary Santiago Joey Samson, Marlon Rivera, Tonichi Nocom, Renee Salud, Frederick Peralta, Puey Quinones, Jun Escario, Avel Bacudio, Jojie Lloren, Bang Pineda, Josie Natori, among others.

Young Designers Guild, Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines, and Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines also cooperated in this event.

Mr. Johnny Manahan, head of Star Magic, was ecstatic about the outcome of the event. He said, "Magic For A Cause was truluy magical. In less than a week, we put up a superb fashion show with the best directors, models, makeup artists, and 80 of the top Star Magic artists, and we were able to raise millions. Magic yun!"

The network's goal in putting up such event was successfully achieved as it raised an ample amount of money from generous donors for the typhoon victims.

As reported, cash donations during the event reached up to about four million pesos cash and three million worth of in-kind donations whihc were turned over to ABS-CBN Foundation's Sagip Kapamilya, which distributes the relief goods to the different areas affected by Ondoy.

Among the donors were Summit Media president Lisa Gokongwei-Cheng and sister Robina Gokongwei-Pe, Globe Asiatique president Delfin Lee, Julie Lim of Ultra Mega Supermarket, government officials of Tagum City, Davao del Norte, Procter and Gamble, Coca-Cola Foundation, and Mr. Ben Chan of Bench.

Sagip Kapamilya program director Tina Monzon-Palma was overwhelmed by the support of different private sectors, and had called their acts of generosity as "extraordinary." She added, "You would be surprised with the kind of generosity that we have received."

On the other hand, ABS-CBN Foundation managing director Gina Lopez assured all the donors that every single centavo of their donation will be spent wisely and distributed to the beneficiaries.

She related, "I'd like to inform all of you, in Sagip Kapamilya, we're working very, very hard. We set up many trucks a day. We service about 10,000 families a day and our efforts are really going areas, which are far flung and which nobody has service. We have today almost 3,400 families."

Ms. Lopez also thanked the Star Magic talents who have been very supportive of their cause for Ondoy victims from the very start. She said, "I wanna thank the stars because they have been going together with the trucks in doing relief services. Our effort is to use every single centavo well and we wanna save some money, and get some money to rehabilitate people."

GMA's "Showtime" vs. ABS-CBN's "Showtime"

Posted by JED on Monday, October 12, 2009 , under | comments (2)

On Saturday, GMA-7 will premiere its new talent program titled "Bitoy's Showwwtime" hosted by Michael V. itself.

Bitoy’s Showwwtime will feature various talents of Filipinos not just in the Philippines but all over the world. Michael V. will play the role of a futuristic emperor searching for wild, wacky and world class Pinoy talents in the four corners of the globe.

Bitoy’s Showwwtime will have four segments such as:

Talbugan: A live showdown of wacky or weird acts.

Videokariran: A competition of international videos that were uploaded on www.bitoystv.com featuring traditional talents such as singing, dancing, magic acts, etc. and sensational talents like fire eating, acrobats, etc.

Facemuk: This segment features funny, produced skits on video, also uploaded on www.bitoystv.com. The winner of this segment will receive a brand new Canon video camera.

Gaya Mo ‘Yun?: Imitation videos of a popular pop star or music act similar to what Moymoy Palaboy are doing.

This might be GMA-7's answer to TV5's "Talentadong Pinoy" which is raking bigtime at the ratings. And to preempt the ABS-CBN's upcoming talent show "Pilipinas Got Talent".

Incidentally, ABS-CBN is also coming up with a reality-talent show also titled "Showtime" to be hosted by Vhong Navarro and Anne Curtis.

Its teaser says "Your Show, Your Time…" which somehow depicts ala "30 Seconds to Fame" format.

Now, the network war, I must day, is getting a lot exciting. Let's wait and see!
