CBCP Wanted Blanktape's "Banana" and Dagtang Lason's "Magmahal Ako ng Bakla" Banned; Alpha Music Pulled-Out Rapper Blanktape's Album

Posted by JED on Saturday, August 15, 2009 , under , , | comments (0)

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) asked the public and radio stations to ban some pop songs particularly the song "Banana" by Blanktape and Dagtang Lason's "Nagmahal Ako (Ng Bakla)."

Caloocan Bishop Deogracias IƱiguez, who also heads the Committee on Public Affairs of CBCP said that the lyrics of those songs have double meaning. "
Those should be banned. Dinudumihan nito ang isip ng mga kabataan instead of promoting the concept of morality."

As of latest update, Alpha music decided to pull out rapper Blanktape's album and apologizes to those who were offended by "Banana".

When ask for reaction, rapper Blanktape said, "

Sabi nga nila, good or bad publicity, still, publicity 'yon. Marami nga ang nagkainteres sa kanta. Mas lalo tuloy nakilala," he added.

Sing-along with Blanktape's Banana below:

Kung ayaw mong nabibitin sa taste
I-try mo itong banana ko babe I'm selling today

Sige i-try mo aking banana
'Pag natikman mo 'to di magsasawa
Dahil malaki ang aking banana
At ubod pa ng sarap aking banana

Kaya i-try mong aking banana

Kaya ngayon napagpasyahan
Na bakla ang aking iibigin
At ipapadama ko na himig na aking
Damdamin sa kanya
Oo nga! At hindi sa isang babae
Dahil ang puso ko ay kanilang sinabutahe
Para bang ako'y isang laruan

Na tinapaktapakan pagkatapos
Pagsawaan kanilang tatalikuran
It's so unfair kaya bakla na lang

At di niya pinagkait at sakin di lumapit
Kyan hanggang ngayon virgin pa ang aking pwit
At alam ko naming wala akong kahati

Di ko siya mabubuntis
Pagkat pareho kami ng ari. Grabe!
Buong buhay niya ay sa akin binigay
Lahat-lahat kanyang inalay

Wala kang ibang gagawin
Kasi lagi akong busog
Hindi mo ako ginugutom

'Cause takot kang mabugbog

SM Cinema Management Issues Statement About "And I Love You So"

Posted by JED on Friday, August 14, 2009 , under , | comments (0)

SM Cinemas issued a short statement behind the reason for not showing of Star Cinema's "And I Love You So" from any of their cinemas. (Click HERE to read related story.)

Here is the statement of SM Cinema Management through its Senior Vice President, Mr. Edgar Tejerero:

"It is unfortunate that we are unable to show And I Love You So in our cinemas today. We remain committed to the continued growth of the Philippine Film Industry by providing our customers with wholesome family entertainment in our movie theaters."

"And I Love You So" opened yesterday, August 12, in about 100 theaters nationwide, but not in SM Cinemas.

According to source, "And I Love You So" reportedly grossed Php3.4 million on its first day nationwide.

Meanwhile, Bea's last movie with John Lloyd Cruz, One More Chance (2007), grossed Php5 million on its first day in SM Cinemas alone. But this is probably because Bea was paired with John Lloyd.

According to a report by YES! Magazine, SM Cinemas sell 45% of all movie tickets sold in the country.

"And I Love You So" Graded B by Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB)

Star Cinema’s latest offering "And I Love You So" received a B grade from the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB).

For getting the second highest grade for quality filmmaking, the film outfit will get a 65% amusement tax rebate from the government.

This is a good thing for Star Cinema knowing that they needed the tax rebate specially now that the movie is not showing at all SM Cinemas which account for 45% of all movie tickets sold in the whole Philippines.

Star Cinema's "And I Love You So" Banned on All SM Cinemas?

Posted by JED on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 , under | comments (1)

Star Cinema's latest offering "And I Love You So" starring Bea Alonzo, Derek Ramsay and Sam Milby had a very successful premiere night at the Trinoma Mall Cinema in Quezon City last night, August 11, 2009.

In the past, SM Megamall Cinemas (particularly Cinema 10) was the venue for all Star Cinema movie premiere nights. The cinema can accommodate a large number of viewers, aside from its location accessibility. But why Trinoma Cinema this time?

SM Megamall Cinema 10 was supposedly the venue for the movie's premiere night as announced by Star Cinema through its multiply site but the site's content says otherwise (see Google search result below). There must be something wrong going on here. Don't you think so?

My intuition was confirmed by last night's SNN report. According to the show's hosts Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino, the Star Cinema movie "And I Love You So" will be in theaters starting tomorrow, August 12, in more than 100 theaters nationwide except SM Cinemas.

Watch the report below:

Can anyone from Star Cinema explain the reason behind this? If this continues, it will be a great loss for both parties, as Star Cinema movies guaranteed to be a hit while SM Cinemas prove to mount a large number of viewing public. Wasn't it that SM Cinema's top-grossing film of 2008 is a Star Cinema produced film "A Very Special Love"?

Mmmmm.....

Channing Tatum Scandal

Before he charmed Hollywood casting directors with his work in the movies "Step Up" and "Stop Loss", G.I. Joe star Channing Tatum made a living in a Chippendales-style dance revue called "Male Encounter".

Channing was 18 when he joined the troupe in 1999. According to US Weekly, Channing performed under the alias Chan Crawford and worked the gig for just under a year at a now-defunct South Florida nightclub.

"He was really shy at first, but he really knew how to work a stage," the club’s former owner, London Steele, told the magazine.

"The women went crazy for him making him earned $50 a night plus tips." he added.

That gig eventually led to him being "talent spotted" and made him appeared as featured dancer in Ricky Martin’s video for "She Bangs" -
his first big showbiz break.

AGB Mega Manila TV Ratings (August 10): "Darna" Regains GMA-7's Primetime Supremacy

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Just when everybody thought that everything seemed to be a losing battle for GMA-7 primetime programs, along came Darna saving the day and proving that the Kapuso network can still give a good fight.

After almost a year of getting a "so-so" standing in the ratings game, the Kapuso network has finally gained back its primetime supremacy when the new "Darna", with Marian Rivera in the title role, generated a whopping 44.1% ratings on its pilot episode last night, August 10, 2009.

Aside from leading the primetime programming last night, Darna also posted a significant margin of 11.8% over second-placer "Tayong Dalawa" which only generated a rating of 32.3%.

For those keeping an eye on Marian's ratings value, Darna's 44.1% pilot rating is Marian's second highest primetime-series opening, after Dyesebel's 44.9%. While Marimar got 36.6% and Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang with 32.9%, respectively, on their pilot episodes.

However, the pilot episode of Marian's Darna is still 3% lower than Angel's Darna in 2005 when the latter's generated a 47.1% rating, making it the highest pilot episode of GMA-7 primetime series in the last 5 years.

During Angel's time, GMA-7 was already lording the ratings game in Mega Manila. But it cannot be denied that Angel's Darna made history when it reached 52.1% on its fourth episode, where Angel appeared in a Darna costume for the first time.

That figure was also the highest rating achieved by any GMA-7 show at that time. It was only broken in 2008 when the final episode of Marimar, topbilled by Marian and Dingdong Dantes, achieved 52.6%.

It should also be considered that Marian's Darna came at this time where ABS-CBN is giving a very strong competition in the ratings game. Also, Darna is pitted against May Bukas Pa, considered the No. 1 program of the Kapamilya network, which also topped the primetime race for a number of times.

Last night, May Bukas Pa slipped to sixth place with 24.6%. Aside from May Bukas Pa, Darna's pilot episode, which ran for over an hour, was also pitted against Only You, which came in seventh place with 24.5%.

Here are August 10, 2009 Top 10 Daytime and Primetime programs based on the survey of AGB Nielsen Philippines among Mega Manila TV households:

Spartacus: Blood and Sand

On January 2010, Starz Entertainment is giving us the boldest show on TV - Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Based on the historical figure Spartacus and set in ancient Rome, series follows the slave, gladiator and rebel and the gritty action in the gladiator arena.

This TV series promised to provide lots of slow-motion blood, lots of skinm lots of violence. The series would feature as much male nudity as female nudity.

Indeed, series creator and executive producer Rob Tapert let slip that with so much male nudity, some of the male actors were self-conscious about being less well-endowed than some of their co-stars. Said Tapert:

"There’s a great deal of nudity, both male and female. And some guys are not as well-endowed as other guys, so we had to create the Kirk Douglas, as it was aptly named, so that certain actors would have a prosthetic that they could wear and feel comfortable. Someone lovingly called it the Kirk Douglas, and the name stuck."

Starring Andy Whitfield as Spartacus, Lucy Lawless as Lucretia, Erin Cummings as Sura, John Hannah as Batiatus, Peter Mensah as Doctore and Manu Bennett as Crixus.

The Vampire Diaries

Really, vampires are so totally "in". Novelists who pen vampire books are raking in millions. Summit Entertainment is becoming a major Hollywood player courtesy of the highly successful "Twilight". And HBO's "True Blood" continues to break ratings records with each subsequent episode it airs. And now, this fall, the CW is getting in on the bloodsucking action with the debut of the new show from storied showrunner Kevin Williamson, The Vampire Diaries.

Plot: Four months after the tragic car accident that killed their parents, 17-year-old Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev, "DeGrassi: The Next Generation") and her 15-year-old brother, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen, "Everwood"), are still adjusting to their new reality. Elena has always been the star student; beautiful, popular and involved with school and friends, but now she finds herself struggling to hide her grief from the world. Elena and Jeremy are now living with their cool-but-overwhelmed Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning, "Smallville"), who is doing her best to be a surrogate parent.

Elena manages to find some comfort with her familiar social circle – best friend Bonnie (Katerina Graham, "17 Again"), frenemy Caroline (Candice Accola, "Juno"), and former boyfriend Matt (Zach Roerig, "Friday Night Lights"), but Jeremy is on a more dangerous path, hanging out with the stoners and using drugs to hide his pain. Jeremy is also trying to figure out why Matt's sister, Vicki (Kayla Ewell, "The Bold and The Beautiful"), is suddenly rejecting him and hanging out with Jeremy's rival, Tyler (Michael Trevino, "Cane").

As the school year begins at Mystic Falls High, Elena and her friends are fascinated by a handsome and mysterious new student, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley, "Fallen"). Stefan and Elena are immediately drawn to one another, although Elena is puzzled by Stefan's increasingly bizarre behavior when he appears suddenly at the cemetery where her parents are buried. What she doesn't realize is that Stefan is hiding a dark, deadly secret of his own – the fact that he's a vampire. At a bonfire party the next night, Elena and Stefan are just getting to know each other when chaos erupts after Vicki is attacked and left bleeding from a savage bite to the neck.

Fearing that he knows who is responsible for the attack, Stefan returns home and finds his older brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder, "Lost"), whom he hasn't seen for 15 years. Damon is also a vampire, and the two brothers have a long and bitter history. Damon ridicules Stefan for rejecting their legacy of violence and brutality, but he understands his brother's obsession with Elena, since she looks exactly like a woman Stefan loved more than a century ago; a woman that Damon tried to make his own. Now these two vampire brothers – one good, one evil – are at war for Elena's soul and for the souls of her friends, family and all the residents of Mystic Falls, Virginia.

Based on the series of books by L. J. Smith, "The Vampire Diaries" is from Alloy Entertainment and Bonanza Productions Inc in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios with executive producers Kevin Williamson ("Scream," "Dawson's Creek"), Julie Plec ("Kyle XY," "Wasteland"), Leslie Morgenstein ("Gossip Girl," "Private") and Bob Levy ("Gossip Girl," "Privileged"). Marcos Siega ("Dexter") directed the pilot.

The Vampire Diaries is set to premiere on September 10, 2009 8/7 C.
