Survivor Philippines - 18 Castaways and Teaser Trailer

Posted by JED on Saturday, September 6, 2008 , under | comments (0)

Pautakan! Pagalingan! Patatagan! Who will be the first Pinoy Sole Survivor?

Will it be the laundry woman with the strong hands or the male model with the chiseled abs?

Could it be the driver who wants to achieve a better life or the nanny who dreams of showbiz stardom?

The first Pinoy Sole Survivor could be any of them or the 16 other hopefuls all vying for the 3 million pesos grand prize.

After thousands of Filipinos flocked to local auditions, GMA-7 decided to give more people a chance to be part of this once in a lifetime event. Instead of 16 contenders, Survivor Philippines picked 18 castaways from different corners of the country and from all walks of life.

Among them is a female farmer who seeks greener pastures, a call center agent who wants to quit the graveyard shift and a basketball player who wants to take a shot to win the jackpot.

Isolated in Thailand's Talohwow Bay, Tarutao National Park, deprived of basic necessities and challenged to chart unfamiliar territory, 18 strangers will fight it out armed only with instincts, strength and wit.

Expect fierce competition, willful deceit and sly strategies as each challenger tries to be the last one standing. Who will outwit, outlast and outplay all castaways to become the first Pinoy Sole Survivor?

Find out as Survivor Philippines fires up your TV screens this September 15 only on GMA-7. (GMA Press Release)

Regine Velasquez and Lani Misalucha Together in a Concert Called "The Main Event"

Posted by JED on , under | comments (3)

Pitted against each other for almost a decade now as the Philippines’ foremost belters — with unbelievable lung power unmatched by any of their contemporaries — who can easily fill major venues from the Araneta Coliseum to the concert halls of Atlantic City’s casino resorts and California’s grandiose theaters, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez and Asia’s Nightingale Lani Misalucha will finally settle their professional rivalry in an ultimate face-off that can be billed as the “concert of the decade.”

Aptly called The Main Event, the duel of the two topnotch divas will be staged at the Newark Symphony Hall in Newark, New Jersey, on Sept. 20, with Christopher de Leon as special guest. This East Coast performance is produced by Calla Lily Entertainment Productions, the same group behind the highly-successful Wowowee show at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall recently.

Before the show reaches New York-New Jersey shores, The Main Event will have two West Coast performances, on Sept. 6 at Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles and on Sept. 13 at Nob Hill Masonic Center in San Francisco. Both California shows are produced by StarMedia Entertainment, and will have Martin as guest performer. Next stop is Arie Crown Theater in Chicago on Sept. 19.

After the New Jersey leg on Sept. 20, the show will head to Toronto, at Canada’s Roy Thomson Hall, on Sept. 21.

All shows will be directed by Lorrie Ilustre.

For tickets to The Main Event at Newark Symphony Hall (130 Broad Street), call 732-7630021, 848-2880458, 732-8500442, 732-2510324, 908-9069788, 908-2422427, 718-4760181 or 908-2651430. Or call Ticketmaster at 201-5078900. Ticket prices are $58, $78, $88, $98 and $125 (VIP). For other shows, call Star Media Entertainment at 818-5499005, 818-5471456 or 818-9135818.

Mylene Dizon is Pregnant...Again

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

It‘s confirmed! Mylene Dizon is six weeks pregnant.

The father is none other than Paolo Paraiso by whom Mylene has a three-year-old love son, Tomas. They are not married; neither do they live together.

They said that they had broken up although they remained friends. Obviously, ‘much more than friends.’ In fact, it was Paolo who broke the good news to his friends.

Whatcha Think About That is the 2nd single from the Pussycat Dolls' sophomore studio album Doll Domination. The song, which features guest vocals by rapper Missy Elliott, will be officially released on September 9, 2008. The lyrics refer to a lady getting rid of her overbearing, controlling partner. Like most singles from the Pussycat Dolls, Fil-Am Nicole Scherzinger sings the verses, chorus and the background with Melody Thornton singing the climax.

See and hear PCD's Whatcha Think About That below:

August 29 - September 1 TV Ratings: Kapuso Shows Manipulated the Daytime and Primetime Weekdays and Weekend Ratings

Posted by JED on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 , under | comments (0)

Kapuso shows reign supreme in this week's ratings.

(21.8 percent), Daisy Siete (20.5 percent), while Marimar and Wowowee tied for the fifth place with identical 17.8 percent rating.

Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera's birthday show, dubbed as Let's Celebrate: The Dingdong-Marian Birthday Blowout!, shown on GMA-7 took the second spot among primetime shows, next only to Mel & Joey's 23.3 percent.

Compelting the Top 5 are Tok! Tok! Tok! Isang Milyon Pasok, Ful Haus, and All Star K and Pinoy Dream Academy Little Dreamers, which tied at No. 5.

Why Robi Domingo Wasn't Invited to Nicole Uysiuseng Debut

Posted by JED on Monday, September 1, 2008 , under | comments (0)

He was sort of not invited,” Nicole Uysiuseng admitted shyly when asked why her My Girl co-star and fellow Pinoy Big Brother Teen Housemate Robi Domingo was not present during her debut last August 18. The party was organized by the group Yonics – followers of the the Nicole Uysiuseng-Josef Elizalde love team and Robi’s presence would make thing a bit awkward. But Nicole explained that she and Robi have talked about it and the young man perfectly understood the situation.

The Yonics Fans Club really went out of their way to prepare a wonderful party for Nicole. Some even flew in from Canada and Germany just to be with Nicole on her debut. “They prepared everything and they paid for everything,” beamed Nicole. “I felt really loved, I didn't expect na gagawin nila yun for me, on my 18th birthday pa. Tapos they continue to show their support and love for me by sending gifts from abroad.” She also mentioned that her and Robi’s fans – the Robicoles – will be having a separate birthday celebration for her.

Fellow housemates Nan Clenuar, Mican Ong, Beauty Gonzalez, Alex Anselmuccio, Rona Libby, Valerie Weignmann, EJ Falcon and of course Josef, were all present at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel armed with gifts and wishes for Nicole. She shared that they have all established a new-found closeness after PBB ended. “We’re better now that we’re outside, even though we don’t see each other everyday, we got closer outside and we go out as a group with the other housemates,” she said.

Meanwhile, Nicole revealed that among the best gifts she received that night came from Josef. “He gave me two dresses. They’re special because he took time to choose those. Just the time that he gave for choosing them makes them really special.”

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Ploning, a film produced by Panoramanila Pictures Co. has been chosen as the country's entry to the 2009 Oscar Awards' best foreign language film category.

The Board of Governors of the Film Academy of the Philippines approved the selection of Ploning during a meeting last Friday, August 29.

Five members of a special committee tasked to select the country's entry, which is headed by National Artist for Film Eddie Romero as chairman narrowed down the possible nominee to two films, Ploning and Caregiver. In a meeting last August 20, three members voted for Ploning and two members chose Caregiver.

The special committee members were Director Jose Carreon, secretary of the Directors Guild of the Philippines, Inc.; Director William Mayo, president of the Philippine Motion Picture Directors Association; Johnny Delgado, chairman of the Actors' Workshop Foundation; Pablo S. Gomez, president of the Screenwriters' Guild of the Philippines; and Manny Morfe, president of the Productions Designers Guild of the Philippines.

The two films were initially included in a six-film short list, which were all reviewed by the committee on August 12 and 14 at the FAP office at OctoArts Bldg. on Panay Avenue, Q.C.

Also reviewed were Tribu, a Cinemalaya festival winner and Endo. The producers of two other films—Pisay and Serbis (the Filipino entry in the last Cannes Film festival)—failed to submit a DVD or VCD copy of their films and were not reviewed by the committee.

The result of the voting was announced during the Board of Governors monthly meeting on Friday, August 29.

Hollywood's Top 10 Summer Box Office Hits

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

It's been a good summer to stay indoors. From reality-bending assassins to non-verbal robots, cosmopolitan singles to gothic heroes, this has been a movie season to remember. The box office totals for this year are nearly equal to this time last year -- $6.7 billion to date -- but both critics and audiences have been much more positive about this season's titles than in 2007.

Here is the countdown of the top 10 films of the summer, from the first of May to through August 24th (figures provided by BoxOfficeMojo).

1. THE DARK KNIGHT - $489.4 million

Batman Begins was the well-received reinvention of a tarnished film franchise that grossed a respectable $205M in the summer of '05. The follow-up, "The Dark Knight," out-grossed that number in only six days. Why did the second film do so astonishingly well? Several reasons: the first found a much bigger audience on DVD, fan excitement had been stoked for months with eye-popping trailers, and, of course, the buzz that surrounded the late Heath Ledger's electrifying performance as the Joker. All this has made "The Dark Knight" not only the top film of the summer, but the second-highest grossing movie of all time.

2. IRON MAN - $317.5 million

A well-respected actor who had never had a huge hit. A director known more for comedy than action. And a second-tier comic book character unfamiliar to most movie fans. It seemed like "Iron Man" had a lot stacked against it. But exciting trailers, positive reviews, and excellent word-of-mouth made the Marvel Comics adaptation a smash, with a $102M opening. The first big movie of the summer, "Iron Man" looked like it would be the champion of the season, until another masked hero swooped in.

Nineteen years is a long time to wait for a sequel. Most of the teenage moviegoing population hadn't even been born when Dr. Jones last hit the big screen. Still, "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" ended up as the highest grossing Indiana Jones movie. However, if you adjust for inflation, 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark nearly doubles the take of this installment.

4. HANCOCK - $226.3 million

There's a reason Will Smith refers to the 4th of July holiday as "Big Willie Weekend." At turns broadly comedic and surprisingly dramatic, "Hancock" was his fifth movie to open at #1 over the long Independence Day weekend. It went on to become Smith's fourth-highest earning movie, behind Independence Day, Men in Black, and last year's I Am Legend.

5. WALL-E - $216.2 million

If any movie was going to break Pixar's 13-year streak of hits, it would've been "WALL-E." It had no big celebrity voices, a story that couldn't be summarized in a sentence, and a hero who could barely even speak. But even with those challenges, "WALL-E" opened at #1 with a $63M weekend, and went on to earn $10M more than Pixar's release from last summer, the Oscar-winning Ratatouille.

6. KUNG FU PANDA - $212.6 million

It's a formula so brilliant in its simplicity you wonder why no one thought of it before: take cute, cuddly, fuzzy animals and have them beat each other up. With a star-studded voice cast and kinetic action, "Kung Fu Panda" attracted audience of all ages, making it DreamWorks Animation's biggest non-Shrek movie ever.

7. SEX AND THE CITY - $152.3 million

Four years after the show ended its run on HBO, the buzz around the first big screen outing for Carrie and company was intense. Moviegoers across the nation made an event out of going to the movie, some even dressing up as their favorite character. But the excitement was warranted, with "Sex and the City" becoming the top grossing R-rated film of the year so far.

Most films would be pleased as punch with a $55M opening and a $140+ total, but that's not the case here. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, opened in December '05 with $10M more, but went on to gross more than double what "Prince Caspian" did. Coming out in the summer meant this one faced tougher competition, but it does raise questions if "Voyage of the Dawn Treader," the third movie scheduled for 2010, will float or sink.

9. THE INCREDIBLE HULK - $134.4 million

Naturally, this new version of Marvel Comics' green gargantuan would beg comparisons to the disappointing 2003 movie. And while this one brought in a lower opening number -- $55M to the previous film's $62M -- its positive reviews and fan reaction gave it more legs, bringing its total to $2M more than the first one.

10. WANTED - $133.7 million

Freely adapted from a little-known comic book, "Wanted" got people talking with trailers showing off some wildly inventive gunplay and Angelina Jolie sporting even more tattoos than usual. It exceeded expectations with its $51M opening, but still came in second that weekend behind "WALL-E."
