Maja Salvador is Not Closing Her Door to Jon Avila

Posted by JED on Friday, August 1, 2008 , under | comments (0)

During the farewell press conference of Kapitan Boom last Monday, July 28, the press couldn’t help but notice Maja Salvador’s pretty glow. However, the actress quickly denied that a “special someone” was responsible for her radiant appearance. “Sawi pa rin po [ako],” she admitted with a laugh.

Her co-stars Jon Avila and Jay-R Siaboc who are being romantically linked to her are not the reason behind her glowing aura as well. “Alam naman natin na si Jay-R masaya,” said Maja, referring to Jay-R’s relationship with long-time girlfriend Irish Fullerton. But will Kapitan Boom mean the end of her hilarious tandem with Jay-R? Kapag hindi kami nagte-take, kwentuhan, tawanan… Ganun,” the young actress enthused.

As for Jon, Maja is fully aware that some people are misunderstanding their closeness on the set. She further stressed her point, “Mahilig kasi siyang magbasa ng diyaro. So next taping day po namin uupo siya sa tabi ko tapos pag-uusapan namin kung anong lumabas sa diyaryo. Tapos sasabihin niya, 'Uy Maj sorry ha. Nabasa mo ba yung ganito sa diyaryo? Sabi nililigawan daw kita. Sorry ha.’ Ganun.” Maja added that they would simply laugh over the rumors.

When prodded about Jon’s “attraction” to her, Maja comically exclaimed to him, “Wow! Crush ka diyan! Sapukin kita eh!” Seriously though, she’s not closing her doors if Jon intends to pursue her for real. But it seems that Jon has a good chance in light of Maja’s revelation that she was a Coverboys fan. “Nanood po ako ng Coverboys. Sinuportahan ko po sila. Okay naman po,” she shyly gushed.

But what about Geoff Eigenmann who escorted her down the red carpet during the Star Magic Ball last June 29? “Last year magkasama na rin kami [umattend ng Star Magic ball] kaya lang with a group kami. Pero this year, since may gagawin kami [na project] soon [kami ang magka-partner).” However, Maja refrained from giving details of the project so as not to jinx the plans for their team-up. “Surprise muna. Kailangang itago muna para hindi maudlot.”

In the meantime, Maja disclosed that an upcoming TV project is the one thing which is keeping her happy these days. Siyempre kapag maraming projects kailangang magpaganda ‘di ba?” Then she hesitantly revealed that she already had a story conference for a soap where she’ll be playing the lead.

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

MTV Networks Asia's flagship show, MTV Asia Awards (MAA) 2008, is all set to take place in Malaysia this Saturday, August 2 at the Arena of Stars in Genting. Now on its sixth year, the pan-regional music event is expected to bring excitement to music fans in over nine countries in Asia.

The Awards show that celebrates and pays tribute to regional and international music talents will be hosted by Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars. The 2008 MAA will be broadcasted to over 291 million homes across the region.

MTV will be presenting a total of 16 awards during the show to honor and promote the icons of youth culture and music. There will be nine regional favorite artist awards and seven international awards which include exciting additions such as The Video Star Award, Breakthrough Artist, The Innovation Award, Best Hook-Up, Bring Da House Down Award and edc Style Award.

The Grammy-nominated sexy group The Pussycat Dolls will perform their latest hit single, "When I Grow Up" for the first time in the MTV Asia Awards. After making it big in the pop music scene in 2005 with their song "Don't Cha," the group has been consistently on top of America's hits. This year, the posse will join the array of well-known personalities in the field of music for a night of exhilarating performances.

Philippines - MTV Favorite Artist

Among hundreds of bands and music groups in the Philippines, only four Filipino pop and rock groups are nominated and vying for the MTV Favorite Artist Philippines 2008.

Chicosci - From an after school activity to a full-time passion and profession in 2000, this Filipino pop rock group has gone a long way for being nominated by an international award-giving body such as MTV. The band released their first and sophomore albums Revenge of the Giant Robot in 2000 and Method of Breathing in 2002. Their first single "Sink or Swim" established the band's reputation as one of the forerunners of the new generation of rock.

Method of Breathing further cemented that reputation as the single "Paris" dominated the charts for over a year, ultimately winning NU 107's Song of the Year award in 2002, as well as Best Produced Album.

Sandwich - Being in the music industry for a decade proves that Sandwich is deserving of this nomination. Considered to be a "barkada" band, the group has come a long way from releasing their first album Grip Stand Throw in 1998. Sandwich survived when Marc Abaya left the group to form his own band. In fact, Sandwich won Album of the Year in NU 107 Rock Awards in 1999, another Album of the Year award in 2001, and a slew of other awards honoring their musicality.

Sandwich ushered their tenth anniversary with their latest album, Marks the Spot.

Spongecola - Officially launched in 2002, Spongecola is a youthful four-member rock outfit hailing from the Philippines. They released a self-titled EP in 2003, containing songs that received substantial airplay on local pop and rock radio stations. The group released their debut album, Palabas, in 2004 under Sony BMG Philippines. Their second album Transit (2006) was launched under Universal Records. Within three months of it release, the album struck gold due to the massive radio success of the single "Bitiw."

Spongecola released a repackaged Transit Deluxe this year, featuring five new tracks, and selected music videos. It hit platinum a week after its release.

Urbandub - This indie quartet made an astounding breakthrough in 2000 when their debut album titled Birth became a goldmine even without support from major record companies. This was followed by three more albums: Influence (2003), Embrace (2005), and Under Southern Lights (2007). Urbandub's song, "Soul Searching" won the award for best Song of the Year in the NU107 Rock Awards 2003. Influence also bagged the Album of the Year in the 2004 NU107 Rock Awards.

Their latest album Under Southern Lights pays homage to the queen city of the South, Cebu.

The 2008 MTV Asia Awards will be aired in the Philippines on the following dates: Sunday, August 10 at 7:30pm; Wednesday, August 13 at 6:30pm; Saturday, August 16 at 4:30 pm; Thursday, August 21 at 9:30am; Sunday, August 24 at 11:00am; Wednesday, August 27 at 10:00pm; and Tuesday, September 2 at 1:30 pm.

Catch these episodes on MTV Philippines (Sky Cable channel 57).

Marian Rivera is The New Endorser of Facial Care Center

Posted by JED on Thursday, July 31, 2008 , under | comments (0)

Marian Rivera's status as the country's top young star of today was confirmed by the different recognition and endorsements the young actress is continuously getting.

She is this year's FHM Philippines Most Sexiest, the success of her fantaseryes (Marimar, Dyesebel), she covers almost all local magazines, and a proven effective product endorser.

And just recently, the 23-year-old actress also jumped into the ever-growing list of celebrities who are endorsing firms in the beauty and cosmetics business.

Marian signed up as the new face of Facial Care Centre, endorsing its LaserLight hair removal procedure. The beauty-cosmetic firm previously had Cherie Gil, Carmi Martin, Cristina Gonzales, and Kris Aquino as endorsers.

In a previous interview, the Marian said that her decision to sign up and avail of the service was largely because of her problem with unwanted hair.

"Balbon talaga ako," she shared smiling. She used to shave and apply wax to remove the unwanted fuzz but totally gave up on the two methods that were painful and inconvenient. The LaserLight method, according to Marian, is more practical, effective, and totally painless.

Angel Locsin and Claudine Barretto Feud, Far From Over

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Both ABS-CBN Star Magic and Star Cinema issued official statements about the reconciliation of Angel Locsin and Claudine Barretto, saying all is well now between them after they met on July 23 at the Star Cinema office.

If Star Magic looks more biased to Claudine, it’s because she’s their talent and Angel is managed by someone else. Inspite of this, though, we heard that two days after the reconciliation, Claudine got annoyed again when she heard something about Angel and asked that her taping of “Iisa Pa Lamang” be packed up, a clear indication that she’s still at odds with Angel despite efforts of ABS management to patch things up between them. Also, we heard that in the actual meeting between them, they didn’t agree to reconcile right away as there was an angry exchange of words, making the proceedings drag on until way past midnight. “Matigas ang bawat isa kaya natagalan bago sila napagbati,” says an insider.

Luis Manzano Doesn't Mind Angel Locsin Doing Sexy Scenes with Her Screen Partners

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Luis Manzano is indeed a very good subject to interview. He’s always quick to answer with a smile and doesn’t play coy with questions that would have other stars blurting “no comment” in the blink of an eye especially if it concerns his current flame with actress Angel Locsin.

It is no secret that he and Angel have been seeing each other for close to a year now. Angel has even the won the approval of Luis’s parents. Mom Vilma likes Angel’s “love for her craft at ‘yong pagmamahal niya sa pamilya.” Ate Vi has even given Angel one of her signature handkerchiefs. Meanwhile, dad Edu is all praises for Angel’s influence on his son. “Mabait siya and I like her influence on him. I like her effect on him. There is a tremendous change in how I see him now and he is more responsible.

As for the controversy between Angel and Claudine Barretto, Luis chooses to steer clear of the issue. “I would prefer to keep quiet. I don’t think there is something I can say about it.” But he does clarify that Angel is not the type to throw a hissy fit and pick a fight. “In the length of time we have been together, I have [gotten to] know her a lot. ‘Di siya ‘yong tipong nagtatantrums. She is not capable of doing it.” Luis went so far as giving a tongue-in-cheek reply.

When asked how he felt about Angel doing kissing and love scenes. “Pareho kaming hindi nagpapakialaman. It’s Angel’s profession. Should I worry about it? Just think of my mom. How many guys has she kissed or had a bed scene with? Mga 30 ba? I just couldn’t be so shallow about these things. We have both grown up a lot.”

ABS-CBN to Get Dingdong Dantes at All Cost?

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

There are reports that ABS-CBN is giving Dingdong Dantes an offer that he can’t refuse.

Dingdong Dantes is very visible nowadays on various tv commercials, billboards and magazine covers. His fantaserye on GMA opposite Marian Rivera is still the no. 1 tv program nationwide. He is also busy doing a movie with Marian and Iza Calzado. To top it all, he is now one of the hottest properties of GMA 7.

Earlier this year, Richard Gutierrez was rumored of having offered by ABS-CBN a “sky-high” amount just to be a kapamilya. Although Richard had a misunderstanding with GMA at that time, he sealed his loyalty to the kapuso network.

Now, it’s Dingdong’s turn to have the same issue. Dingdong can be considered as one of the top 3 leading men of the Kapuso network together with Richard Gutierrez and Dennis Trillo. His love team with Marian Rivera became a sensation that dominated the tv ratings game. If Dingdong will leave GMA, “mapipilayan” ang network.

If ever the reports are true, the question “loyalty or money” will be put on spotlight once again. Will another bite the dust?

Ben Chan Denies Favoritism in the Bench Blackout Event

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

"Walang sapawan. Lahat sila bida!" says Ben Chan, owner of the world famous clothing line Bench, on the issue of favoritism in the just concluded Bench Blackout denim and underwear show.

In an interview by GMA News, Ben explained that they don’t take side with anybody and that they are a family.

All of them have done a moment of their own,” he added.

The favoritism issue started when Annabelle Rama complaint that his son Richard [Gutierrez] made no impact with the impact because there has been no proper introduction when the latter entered the ramp compared to other stars like Sam Milby, Rafael Rosell and Dingdong Dantes. Furthermore, she did not like the dark make up that they put on Richard that is why the actor turned out to be just one of those models and did not receive louder cheers than Dingdong Dantes and other stars.

Dingdong had a special moment last Saturday wherein he stripped-off his pants exposing a lot of skin to the delight of the audience.

And what is Ben’s explanation to “Dingdong’s moment”? He’s the newest underwear endorser of Bench, no more no less.

John Lloyd, Walang Balak Mag-Renew sa Bench!

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Richard Gutierrez Will No Longer Renew Contract with Bench; Annabelle Cries "Unfair" about Richard's Exposure in Bench "Blackout" Event

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Annabelle Rama is seriously considering not to renew Richard Gutierrez's contract with Bench.

According to her, Richard was given an unfair exposure in the Blackout event of Bench last Friday, July 25, at the Araneta Coliseum.

Somehow, those who witnessed the event were given the signal that it would be Sam Milby, Rafael Rosell, and Dingdong Dantes who will be approaching the ramp. These three actors got the biggest applause compared to what Richard got from the crowd.

Nasa malapit na sila ng stage ha, paano pa yung nasa bleacher?" said Annabelle in an interview.

It was explained to Annabelle that it never happened to any Bench event that they announced the name of stars who will be doing the ramp.

It was later learned that Dingdong was given a separate time for rehearsal because nobody sees him doing the rehearsals.

In this line, someone asked if he'll put again Richard in the next event of Bench which will happen two years from now.

"Ay hindi na, tatanggalin ko na siya sa Bench!" answered a very disappointed Annabelle.

Is this twist some sort of a move from GMA management to save the deteriorating show from getting "The Worst Local Franchise Ever" Award? Is it a “wildcard” that could bring back talent and not just the face in the show?

Let us wait and see.

And on July 23, the two together with some ABS-CBN executive met in an exclusive closed-door meeting to finally settle their rift.

Here is the official statement issued by ABS-CBN regarding the misunderstanding between the two stars:
