CLAUDINE Tanggap si ANGEL Bilang Bagong Endorser ng Folded & Hung

Posted by JED on Saturday, June 14, 2008 , under | comments (0)

May nagawa ba akong masama

Pangungulit, magagalit, biglang magsusungit

June 11 - 12 TV Ratings: Rudy Fernandez' Burial a Blockbuster Hit

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Since fans were not allowed to witness Rudy Fernandez's burial at Heritage Park yesterday, June 12, millions of Filipinos tuned in on television to watch the proceedings, which was covered live both by ABS-CBN and GMA-7. PRINCESS REVILLA is Not Guilty of Maid's Accusation

Posted by JED on Friday, June 13, 2008 , under | comments (0)

The domestic helper was no longer connected with Miss Ocampo’s household as early as March 28, 2008. Hence, any injuries allegedly sustained by her could not have been implicated by Ms Ocampo," pahayag ni Raymund Fortun, abogado ni Revilla.

Ramon “Bong" Revilla Jr.

Former Actress and Bong Revilla's Sister PRINCESS REVILLA Sued (Again) By Her Maid for Maltreatment

Posted by JED on Thursday, June 12, 2008 , under | comments (0)

A maid of former actress Princess Revilla-Ocampo was forced to flee from Princess's house after the maid allegedly became the recipient of such physical violence that it might look like a scene out of a boxing match.

Princess is the daughter of former senator Ramon Revilla Sr. and the younger sister of Senator Bong Revilla.

According to the maid, whose name has been withheld, she had been getting beatings for some time now from Princess. But recently the beatings escalated after the former actress was confronted by her husband, Dr. Gregorio Ocampo, regarding the harsh treatment she had been giving to the maid. The couple reportedly quarreled, and after it was over, Princess allegedly proceeded to beat up the maid.

The maid had long endured the sadistic treatment but it was only yesterday, June 11, that she decided to end her suffering. She jumped from a 6-foot fence of Revillas house at A14 Casa Verde Lanuza corner C-5, Barangay Ugong, around 7 a.m. after she was badly beaten. Barangay security staff nearby saw the bruised and bewildered-looking girl and took her to the Rizal Medical Center for treatment.

At the hospital, the maid reportedly could hardly speak or sit since her mouth, as well as her buttocks, which were black-and-blue and covered with bruises, courtesy of Princess's whacking.

The maid said that she was beaten up by Princess, Rebecca Revilla-Ocampo in real life, using a broom until it broke. The blows were so strong that it slightly cracked the maid's upper palate.

The maid, who started working for the Ocampos last October 2007, said that she receives 2,500 pesos a month. But when she accidentally broke a wash basin stand in the comfort room a month later, Princess allegedly spanked, hit, and pulled her hair. The actress also reportedly stuck her fingers inside the maid's mouth.

Starting November, her pay was reduced by P500, "Kakaltasin daw po ung halaga ng nabasag ko [The cost of the damaged fixture would be deducted]," the maid told the press.

The maid also revealed that she tried to escape last March 28 but a barangay staff, Christy Alino, was allegedly bribed to take her back to Revilla. Her first attempt ended in pain, of course, when Princess found out about it.

It will be remembered that on Nov. 13, 1998, Revilla was acquitted in the P16-million suit filed by her maids Precy Balolong and Rodelyn Lumactod for physical injuries after the two maid suddenly disappeared while the case was ongoing.

Fast forward to 2008. The present maid has decided to press charges against Princess.

However, Senator Bong said he will not intervene in his sister's case, "Walang kapatid at walang kamag-anak," answered Senator Bong Revilla when he was informed of the charges regarding his sister. "Nagsusulong ako ng batas para proteksyunan ang kapakanan ng kasambahay kaya't walang kapatid. Kapag nagkasala dapat panagutan. Bahala ang pulis at hindi kami makikialam."

Everything is surely sweeter the second time around, so expect her smooth powerful voice and uninhibited lyrics to give you another amazing musical experience that only Alicia Keys can give.

American R&B singer-film actress Alicia Keys has gained the respect of millions of music lovers all over the world with her own original compositions. Her works are expressed through skillfully weaved melodies, her eager pounding on the piano keys and her soulful voice that altogether creates a musical journey that no one can ever experience with any other musicians.

Alicia Keys has indeed given us remarkable albums with a blend of soul, jazz, hip-hop, rap, funk, and groovy sounds. That's why it's no surprise that she has sold over 25 million albums worldwide as of 2007, and has received numerous awards including 11 Grammy Awards, 11 Billboard Music Awards, 3 American Music Awards and 14 NAACP Image Awards.

At the age of seven, Alicia J. Augello-Cook was already playing the piano, learning classical pieces such as Beethoven, Mozart and Chopin. This is the reason why she chose Keys to be her stage name as she had always felt the name represented her both as a performer and as a person.

Alicia Keys got us hooked with her first studio album Songs in A Minor, which sold over ten million copies worldwide. That established Keys' popularity both inside and outside U.S. where she also became the best selling new artist of 2001. The album gave us her first chart topping single "Fallin" and "A Woman's Worth," which led her to win 5 Grammy Awards.

Keys soon followed her debut album with The Diary of Alicia Keys, which sold over 618, 000 copies worldwide making Keys the sixth biggest-selling album by a female artist and second biggest selling album by a female R&B artist. The album gave us the huge hits "If I Ain't Got You" and "You Don't Know my Name" that earned for her 4 Grammy Awards.

Alicia Keys did it again last year, as she presented us her third studio album As I Am. Her lead single "No One" was an instant hit, and earned her the "Best Female R&B Vocal Performance" and "Best R&B Song" at the Grammy Awards this year.

"A Love Story" Showing on SkyCable's Cinema One

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

ABS-CBN's movie cable channel Cinema One will air Star Cinema's hit A Love Story on Sunday Cine Premiere. This movie about three people with a complicated love story will air on June 15 (Sunday) at 8:00 pm.

Starring Maricel Soriano, Angelica Panganiban, and Aga Muhlach, A Love Story is helmed by cinematic genius Maryo J. delos Reyes. This is considered one of Star Cinema's biggest critical and commercial successes in 2007. It also boasts of a casting coup along with Dante Rivero, Chin Chin Gutierrez, TJ Trinidad, RS Francisco, Carla Humphries, and John Arcilla.

Written by Vanessa Valdez who also co-wrote the equally impressive One More Chance, A Love Story carries the famous tagline "In the greatest love affairs, there is a man...a woman...and a wife who comes between them." Henceforth ushering to the intriguing catchphrase ‘Who's the Wife, Who's the Mistress?' Suffice to that, with the movie presented in a non-linear manner and witholding key information, the movie leads to an unanticipated and astounding revelation.

Ian Montes (Aga Muhlach) is a picture of success. Despite being a son of a shipping tycoon, Ian refused to ride in his father's empire. He built his own real estate company and earned his first million at a very young age. Driven by his ambition to become better, if not as good as his father, Ian managed to make it on his own. But behind all the glory is a man yearning for love and recognition. Wounded from the abandonment of their mother when he was 17 and desperate for his father's approval, Ian longed for someone who can and will love him unconditionally.

He felt this twice when he met two women who would change his life forever-Joanna (Maricel Soriano) and Karyn (Angelica Panganiban). Joanna Villanueva is a picture of quiet confidence and success. Healing from a broken relationship with her ex-husband, Joanna found love again when she rescued Ian from a water skiing accident in La Union. Being a doctor, Joanna nurtured Ian, showered him with love and attention. With her, Ian found the home he sorely missed and a bliss he never thought he'd have.

Then Ian met Karyn Torres; a sensual and worldly flight stewardess who filled him with excitement and spontaneity and whom he found a side of life he hungered for. Both women left Ian with a choice and in the end, Ian, Joanna and Karyn learn the true meaning of unconditional love and forgiveness; but in the most painful ways.

A Love Story broke all box office records in 2007 and ran for over five weeks in cinemas nationwide. It reflected the Diamond Star's viability and ability to still capture a new generation of moviegoers. It also allowed Aga Muhlach to establish himself as one of the premiere leading men of romantic dramas in local cinema.

Don't miss the Philippine television premiere of A Love Story on June 15 at 8:00 pm on Cinema One Channel 56 in Metro Manila (available at SkyCable Platinum, SkyCable Gold, and SkyCable Silver) and other quality cable operators nationwide.

"Sana nga may kakampi ako. I'm just so devastated right now." - JUDY ANN SANTOS on Meralco Infomercial Controversy

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

The negative publicity and all the brouhaha incurred by her Meralco infomercial has taken its toll on young superstar Judy Ann Santos.
Juday sent a text message to her brother Jeffrey Santos expressing her sadness over the matter, which in the span of only a few days has become a national political issue.

In an interview with GMA-7 News, Jeffrey revealed that Juday, who is currently in London, is alarmed by the public backlash.

"Sabi ko, 'Don't worry may mga kumakampi naman sa 'yo,'" Jeffrey assured his beleaguered sister, also through text message.

But even her brother's assuring words were not enough to ease Juday's depression.

"Sana nga may mga kakampi ako and sana naiintindihan nila ko, but I don't think so. I'm just so devastated right now," Juday replied.

The Meralco infomercial shows the multi-awarded actress explaining the controversial systems loss issue, defending the power company against allegations of overcharging by passing unnecessary charges to the consumers to cover the firm's own expenses.

Many people reacted violently and in the process vented their ire on Juday. Last June 3, the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) made a call asking the public to boycott Juday's film and TV projects as a show of contempt.

Immediately, Juday's longtime manager Alfie Lorenzo tried his best to counter all the negative publicity brought about by the infomercial. He even assumed that the ad might be part of an orchestrated plan to discredit Judy Ann. Alfie, for the past couple of months, has been in a rift with ABS-CBN's talent arm Star Magic. ABS-CBN and Meralco are both owned by the Lopezes.

"Iyong galit ng mga tao sa Meralco, baka naman sa kanya mapunta at magtagumpay na sila na mapabagsak si Judy Ann, so may pag-asa na silang mapasikat ang ibang artista nila [ABS-CBN]," said Alfie in a radio interview last June 3 with dzBB's Mike Enriquez.

Alfie pleaded with the public to let Judy Ann explain her side once she returns from London.

"Ibigay naman natin ang side niya," asked Alfie.

ABS-CBN to Enforce "No-Ransom" Policy to Ces Drilon and 2 Cameramen Abductors

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

ABS-CBN has confirmed reports pertaining to the abduction of ABS-CBN News & Current Affairs host Ces Drilon, cameramen Jimmy Encarncion and Angelo Valderama, and their guide, Mindanao State University Professor Octavio Dinampong.

Ces Drilon and her companions went missing on Sunday, June 8, in Sulu after being confronted by an armed group along Kulasi, a town of Maimbung.

Rumors about the abduction were discussed as early as yesterday, June 10. However, ABS-CBN neither confirmed nor denied the said rumor, that is, until today. What they confirmed was that Ces and her cameramen are missing in Sulu, but they never mentioned abduction.

In a statement sent by the Kapamilya Network to press earlier this afternoon, June 11, they confirmed that Ces and two cameramen were kidnapped for ransom. However, they firmly said that they will not pay any ransom because it may push other kidnap for ransom groups to target journalists.

With the help of authority figures in Mindanao, especially ARMM (Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) police director Joel Goltiao, Ces and her companions may be freed through negotiations. In addition, Goltiao confirmed reports that negotiations had begun with the abductors of Drilon and her team. But Goltiao rebuffed news about the ASG asking for an astronomical amount of ransom money ranging from 227,000 to 454,000 U.S. dollars.

Though Goltiao said that they are enforcing a no-ransom policy, it can't be helped to include such an option during negotiations. "Hindi maiwasan," he said in a separate interview in a daily newspaper.

Police say that the abductors are members of the Abu Sayyaf Group, led by Albader Parad and Gapur Jundain.

Here's the complete statement of ABS-CBN:

"ABS-CBN News journalists Ces Drilon, with her crew Jimmy Encarnacion and Angelo Valderama have been kidnapped for ransom. ABS-CBN News is doing everything it can to help the families of its kidnapped journalists through this harrowing ordeal.

"However, ABS-CBN News will abide by its policy not to pay ransom because this would embolden kidnap for ransom groups to abduct other journalists, putting more lives at risk.

"We ask the nation for your prayers and request our colleagues in media to join ABS-CBN News in condemning this unconscionable attack against journalists.

"We thank everyone for the outpouring of support we have received in this most difficult time."

"SERBIS" Poster and Trailer Receive an X-Rating from MTRCB

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

The poster and trailer of the movie Serbis have been rated X—or banned from public exhibition—by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

Yesterday, June 10, Brillante "Dante" Mendoza said that the MTRCB will review the film today, June 11, to determine whether it will receive an R-18 or not. The producers plan to have it reviewed by the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB) next week to determine if it will be eligible to receive amusement tax exemptions.

The poster of Serbis shows actor Coco Martin standing in an empty cinema house while someone is kneeling in front of him with his face seen above the groin area of Coco. When asked if they will change the poster, Direk Dante says that they plan to darken the lower portion of the poster to hide the kneeling person.

As for the trailer, Direk Dante says that he thought it was safe to be shown here in the country. "Ayaw nila [MTRCB] ng humahalik sina Mercedes [Cabral] at Coco. Hubad sila pareho pero wala namang nakita. Smack lang yung ginawa nila.

"Ayaw rin nila nung scene na naglalakad si Jaclyn Jose sa madilim na lugar. Ayaw rin nila yung taong nakaupo na naninigarilyo."

In the Philippine version of Serbis, what scenes do they plan to remove?

"Yung frontal nudity ni Kristofer King. Yung kay Coco hindi tatanggalin. Masyado lang mukhang totoo yung scene niya. It is assumed that they really did it, pero hindi."

Last May 18, Serbis had its world premiere screening at the Grand Lumiere Theater in Cannes, France.

Direk Dante, actors Gina Pareño, Jaclyn Jose, Julio Diaz, Coco Martin, Kristofer King, and Mercedes Cabral, writer Armando Lao, producers Ferdy Lapuz and Didier Costet as well as cinematographer Odyssey Flores attended the 61st Cannes International Film Festival. Serbis is expected to open in selected Metro Manila theaters on June 18.

ABS-CBN's "Walang Iwanan sa BAYANIJUAN"

Posted by JED on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 , under | comments (0)

A simple celebration with less fortunate Filipinos in the country is what ABS-CBN did and will continue to do until the end of this year in celebration of its 55th year anniversary through "Bayanijuan."

The station's new advocacy program, "Bayanijuan" with the theme “Walang Iwanan sa Bayan Ni Juan” re-imagines the Filipino volunteer spirit, or “bayanihan,” as a force to create a better, more compassionate Philippines for ourselves and our children.

The project was originally conceptualized by the ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. as an advocacy integrating all its units to help families and build communities in the poorest regions of the country. The idea struck a chord in ABS-CBN President Charo Santos-Concio, who decided to make "Bayanijuan" the flagship program of ABS-CBN’s celebrations for its 55th year in television.

PIOLO PASCUAL To Produce and Star in the Movie "MANILA"

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

First-time producer Piolo Pascual gets his inspiration from two classic local movies.

A group of businessmen outside of showbiz are pooling in to produce a movie intended for 2008 showing at isa si Piolo sa makiki-produce nito. The movie's title is Manila and it's a twinbill of two different stories inspired by two classic movies directed by the late masters of Philippine cinema—Lino Brocka's Jaguar (1979) and Ishmael Bernal's City After Dark (1980).

Si Piolo ang bida sa parehong kwento.

The first story is inspired by City After Dark (also known as Manila By Night), a Regal movie starring some of the best actors in the industry like Charito Solis, Lorna Tolentino, Rio Locsin, Alma Moreno, William Martinez, Cherie Gil, among others. It will be directed by Raya Martin.

The second story is inspired by Jaguar, which starred Phillip Salvador and Amy Austria. Sina Jay Manalo, Anita Linda, Jiro Manio, at Alessandra de Rossi ang makakasama rito ni Piolo and it will be directed by Adolf Alix Jr.

Already, there are talks that this could be intended for next year's main competition of Cannes International Film Festival. This year kasi, nag-Director's Fortnight na si Raya for his movie Now Showing.

Direk Adolf reacts about the possibility of entering Manila in Cannes.

"Naku, walang ganoon. Ipalalabas na ito dito this year," sagot sa amin ni Adolf.

Cannes only accepts competition movies first shown in the said festival.

4 Philippines Tourist Spot in Top 10 "Nature's Wonders" Search

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Clockwise from top left:
Tubbataha Reef in Palawan, the Chocolate Hills in Bohol,
Mayon Volcano in Albay and the Subterranean River also in Palawan.
Four of the country’s top tourist spots have made it to the Top 10 list in the worldwide search for the “Seven Wonders of Nature.”

Senators Pia Cayetano and Richard Gordon attributed the latest development to the “online power” of Filipinos.

As of yesterday, Tubbataha Reef in Palawan was in second place, followed by Chocolate Hills in Bohol (fourth place), Puerto Princesa Subterranean River, also in Palawan (sixth) and Mayon Volcano in Bicol (10th).

Only Tubbataha Reef and Chocolate Hills were previously in the Top 10.

Cayetano hailed Filipinos here and abroad for taking time to go online and acknowledged the critical role played by local governments, environmentalists and non-government organizations in encouraging more Filipinos and even foreigners to vote for the Philippine nominees.

I hope this strong show of support is reflective of a deeper appreciation of our responsibilities as a people not only to promote, but also to save our natural resources from various threats,” said Cayetano, chairperson of the Senate committee on environment and natural resources.

For his part, Gordon said “this is one contest where Filipinos all around the world can participate in and where victory is practically assured.”

Others in the Top 10 led by first placer Ha Long Bay of Vietnam are: 3. Cox’s Bazaar, Beach (Bangladesh – Asia), 5. Ganges River (Bangladesh/India – Asia), 7. Mount Everest (Nepal – Asia), 8. Amazon River/Forest (Bolivia/Brazil/Colombia/Ecuador/Peru/Venezuela – South America), and 9. Mount Fuji (Japan – Asia).

The search for the Seven Wonders of Nature is organized by the non-profit New Seven Wonders Foundation, which also undertook the “New Seven Wonders of the World” search last year.

The aim of the search is to create public awareness and contribute to the protection of the world’s natural heritage and foster respect for cultural diversity.

The list of nominees and the mechanics for voting are posted on the poll’s official website www.new7wonders.com while the live rankings can be viewed at http://www.new7wonders.com/nature/en/liveranking.

Filipinos can still vote online for the Philippine bets until Dec. 31, after which the Top 77 nominees will be submitted to a panel of experts that will put together a shortlist of 21 finalists by January 2009.

A second round of popular voting for the 21 finalists will then follow until the end of 2009, with the Top Seven nominees being officially declared the new “Seven Wonders of Nature” by year 2010.

Gordon said this would be one way to help speed up the growth of Philippine tourism, which could provide people with the means to raise them out of poverty and give them back their pride.

We can beg oil and power companies for lower prices all day or argue for the scrapping of taxes, but the real solution for our people’s consumer price woes is to focus on creating more income earning opportunities. Tourism has the capacity to provide such a wealth of opportunities directly to our countrymen and we’ve seen many times over that where tourism advances, poverty retreats,” Gordon said.

Gordon also underscored the importance of ensuring the passage of his Tourism Bill, which along with the establishment of Tourism Enterprise Zones throughout the country, would also provide funding support and incentives for the development of tourism related industries.

Along with the enactment of the tourism bill, we must revive efforts to open the NAIA (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) Terminal 3 as well as ensure funding support for the upgrading of our country’s airports. Particular attention must be given to provinces like Palawan, especially now that it has caught the world’s eye through the 7 Wonders Campaign,” Gordon said.

RUDY FERNANDEZ' Movies to be Shown Exclusively on ABS-CBN 2

Posted by JED on Monday, June 9, 2008 , under | comments (0)

The Kapamilya Network has acquired the rights to the movies of Rudy Fernandez, considered to be Philippine Cinema’s Prince of Action, and will be airing these movies in the future on a weekly basis.

Last December 18, 2007, Daboy, as the actor is known in the showbiz world, signed a contract with ABS-CBN, giving the network the rights to show his films on TV. Rudy who was at that time already battling cancer, appeared very jolly in facing the network’s executives. Tentatively, airing of his films will start by the end of the Fernando Poe Jr. Cinema Collection during Saturdays.

Daboy first made waves in the film industry with his 1976 film Bitayin si Baby Ama, which opened doors for him in action movie genre. It was in 1984 that he bagged best actor awards from the FAMAS and Star Awards for the movie Batuigas…Pasukuin si Waway. This was followed by another best actor award in 1988 for the movie Victor Corpuz.

The actor has made almost 100 films in his lifetime.

FILIPINO YouTube Wonders

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

The power of the web can no longer be undermined. Take the case of YouTube, a video sharing website, which has become an effective medium for some Pinoys to gain popularity.

Internet data spread like wildfire, and some lucky people have utilised it as their ticket to fame.

It is very viral, it is fast, and very innovative. Most things become possible with just one click. And one of the web's best features, aside from being an instant source is, it is a people meter.

YouTube has helped celebrities and celebrity wannabes (whether they expect it or not) gain popularity and even international recognition.

Here's the list:

Arnel Pineda's Journey. Arnel Pineda has been writing and singing songs for 25 years now, gaining recognition here in the Philippines and around Asia. It was Arnel's latest band The Zoo, however, that caught the eyes and ears of Neal Schon, who happened to be watching clips on YouTube of Arnel singing cover songs from Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Kenny Loggins, and of course, the 80's legendary rock band Journey.

Arnel's longtime fan, Noel Gomez, was responsible for uploading the clips and last June 28, 2007, Neal contacted Noel to ask how he could contact Arnel.

For Arnel, this was the beginning of a bigger opportunity.

It wasn't a cakewalk for Arnel in the first few days of his arrival in the U.S. to audition for a part in Journey. But on December 5, 2007, he was formally announced as Journey's frontman and CNN covered the story as part of their "News to Me" segment.

Journey introduced its new lead singer in February 2008 at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival in Chile. The Chilean media gave positive reviews on Arnel's performance, and Journey's keyboardist Jonathan Cain described him as "a winner; a clutch player."

U.S. magazine GQ recently featured Arnel in one of its articles.

Charice Pempengco's Big, Big Star. Fifteen-year old Charice had been joining singing contests since she was seven, including Birit Bulilit, Batang Kampeon, Bulilit Popstar, and Junior Star Quest. But it was in Little Big Star (2005) that she became locally known. Although she lost in the final round against Sam Concepcion, good things were in store for her.

A series of YouTube videos in 2007 caught the attention of Swedish record company Ten Songs Productions, which made a contract with her to record seven songs, released digitally.

Sweden was not the only country that noticed Charice. South Korea's Seoul Broadcasting System asked Charice to perform on their talent show called Star King on October 2007. Her performance earned her a standing ovation and paved the way for a guest interview in The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Here, Charice got her first U.S. standing ovation. There was more to come—acclaim in Oprah, and Charice's personal achievement in receiving the first-ever standing ovation at the grand opening of MGM Grand at Foxwoods in Connecticut.

Charice's star continues to shine brightly. Negotiations with American record producer and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recipient Clive Davis are on the table.

Renaldo Lapus in American Idol. Former tricycle driver Renaldo Lapus has no other hobby than singing—with passion, mind you. His energy, songwriting talent and creativity in presenting himself earned him the sarcasm turned admiration of American Idol judge Simon Cowell when Renaldo, wearing clothes worthy of a cosplay event, auditioned for AI season 7.

Four years ago, Renaldo migrated from the Philippines to the U.S. and found employment as Greyhound and Wal-mart janitor. His love for singing, and support from his friends, encouraged him to try out for AI when the show held auditions in Dallas, Texas. Renaldo was the last one to audition and obviously he was the only one who hyped up the exhausted judges after a long day with his original composition We're Brothers Forever. Although Renaldo was eventually rejected, Simon Cowell declared, "I have a horrible feeling that it's going to be a hit record."

True enough, Simon's prediction came true as Renaldo's performance invaded YouTube, following a series of modifications to his song such as rock, rap, metal and techno versions. It earned him 1.2 million hits and since then, has become a weekly Top 10 favorite.

"Keys Me" by Alyssa Alano. A prank can sometimes boost the career of an artist, as in the case of former Viva Hot Babes dancer Alyssa Alano.

Some people may not know that Startalk's Alyssa Alano popularity skyrocketed when she performed Sixpence None the Richer's Kiss Me on the now defunct late night show Master Showman Presents. Alyssa's Tagalog accent drew snickers from the Internet community back in June 2006 when a prankster uploaded a clip of her performance in YouTube and subtitled it with monde greens such as "Keys Me" instead of "Kiss Me".

This mockery seemed to be a door of opportunity for Alyssa in terms of her career, when hits on the video skyrocketed to 500,000 by the end of the month. Alyssa herself had no idea that her performance drew quite a stir until it was shown to her in the 24 Oras entertainment segment Chika Minute of GMA-7. She reacted like a good sport.

The prank on Alyssa even landed a spot on the weekly entertainment show Startalk with Joey de Leon and Lolit Solis.

Charlie Green and Madonna Decena: RP's got talent. Britain's Got Talent made headlines here in the Philippines when the news about two Filipino contestants—Charlie Green and Madonna Decena—broke out, thnaks of course to the Filipino community who uploaded videos of their performances in YouTube. Not many Philippine households have cable and since Britain's Got Talent is only shown abroad, one might miss out on two Filipinos making waves.

Charlie. Ten-year-old Filipino-British Charlie Green sent the judges of Britain's Got Talent grinning broadly and and he captured the admiration of viewers across the U.K. with his clear, youthful voice and natural talent in jazz. His rendition of Frank Sinatra's "Summer Wind" got wild cheers from the audience and earned him the praises of the show's hosts and judges, especially Simon Cowell, who also judges for American Idol.

Charlie's popularity continued to rise even though he was booted out in favor of a karate duo that goes by the name of Strike. This is not the end for Charlie as hits on his videos on YouTube continue.

Madonna
. Charlie may have only made it to the semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent but fellow Filipino Madonna Decena strove on to reach the finals.

The 32-year old single parent of two and overseas performing worker got accepted by the talent show and made waves with her strong and emotional rendition of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You".

The performance has since made it to the pages of YouTube and caught the attention of many as Madonna's accomplishment showed how significant it is for an overseas Filipina worker to be making such raves as a performer abroad. Her hard work earned her a slot in the finals, although she eventually lost to U.K. dancing sensation George Sampson.

Edu Manzano gives the world a mouthful of Papaya. The hit Philippine dance craze "Papaya Dance" is proving to be the next "Macarena."

Over ten years after the Spanish song "Macarena" by Los del Rio swept the world with its contagious dance steps, another dance craze is beginning to take the world by storm: the Philippine's very own "Papaya Song."

The "Papaya Song," composed by Polish jazz vocalist Urszula Dudziak, saw a rebirth among Filipinos when the song became a local dance hit in ABS-CBN's game show Pilipinas, Game KNB hosted by Edu Manzano. The gimmick on the game show required the audience to stand up and perform the dance whenever a contestant made it to the next round.

Because of its popularity, almost two thousand versions of "Papaya Dance" were uploaded in YouTube. This caught the attention of people around the world making it one of the most watched videos in YouTube and other websites. The gimmick turned into a dance craze that became so popular among TV and Internet viewers that it made its way to U.S. shores, particularly on the daily talk show ABC'S Good Morning America.

Cebu inmates thrill the world with a Michael Jackson dance number. "Orange-jumpsuited accused murderers, rapists and drug dealers paid homage to Michael Jackson's Thriller in a dance performance filmed at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in the Philippines (CPDRC)."

This was Time's description of the Cebu inmates who performed Michael Jackson's Thriller, earning them a slot in the prestigious magazine's list of top Internet videos.

The video was uploaded on YouTube by Byron Garcia, a security consultant, showing Cebu prisoners doing a routine choreographed exercise. Byron originally wanted a program where inmates should exercise at least an hour everyday. At first he suggested that the prisoners march to the beat of drums, but then moved on to dancing pop music.

Byron's first upload on YouTube was the prisoners' performance of the Algorithm March, but it didn't get much attention. When he uploaded the inmates' rendition of Thriller in July 17, 2007, that's when it began to gain fame in the YouTube community.

Thriller became an instant hit, gathering as many as 300,000 views per day. Popularity among the inmates also skyrocketed. Visitors to the prison get to watch a two-hour monthly program, they can have their pictures taken with the prisoners and buy souvenir prison shirts.

"THE DARK KNIGHT" Soon on IMAX

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

In an unprecedented move, director Christopher Nolan has filmed four sequences in the next installment of Warner Bros. Pictures' Batman franchise, The Dark Knight, with extremely high resolution IMAX® cameras using the giant 15/70 film format. The announcement was made by Jeff Robinov, President of Production, Warner Bros. Pictures.

While it is not unique for a feature shot on traditional 35mm film to be re-mastered to screen in IMAX® theaters, this marks the first time ever that a major feature film has been even partially shot using IMAX cameras, marking a revolutionary integration of the two film formats.

The first of the scenes, including a prologue that introduces Batman's archnemesis The Joker, was shot in April, several weeks in advance of the actual start of principal photography. Additional selected scenes are being filmed with IMAX cameras during the course of production on The Dark Knight.

Director Christopher Nolan added, "In continuing the story of such a great icon I'm thrilled to be able to expand the scope of the film, not just in terms of its story, but in giving Batman and the Joker the largest possible canvas on which to face off. No existing technology compares with the IMAX format in terms of its ability to throw the audience into the action, and we're very proud and excited to use this technology in a way that no one has before."

Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment, added, "Chris shares our vision that the moviegoing experience should transport audiences into the action. His innovative use of IMAX cameras to film scenes in The Dark Knight will allow our crystal clear images, 14 thousand watts of digital surround sound, and screens up to eight-stories tall to give Batman fans the most immersive cinematic experience in the world. It is entertainment in a big, big way."

Christopher Nolan's 2005 blockbuster Batman Begins was the first action feature to play on IMAX screens in museums as well as multiplexes, after being digitally remastered for the IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR® technology.

In 2006, Superman Returns became the world's first live-action feature to have selected segments converted from 2D into IMAX® 3D. Most recently, the mega-hit "300" obliterated all previous attendance records at IMAX theatres in its record-breaking opening weekend in March.

The follow-up to the action hit Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight reunites director Christopher Nolan and actor Christian Bale, who reprises the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne. In the new film, Batman raises the stakes in his war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as The Joker.

The Dark Knight will be presented by Warner Bros. Pictures in association with Legendary Pictures. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
